  1. What is your definition of a humanist? I'd start with Sir Thomas More...but having grown up reading his work, and opting for something more recent, I'm deferring to my favorite mensch: That's an excellent video and I watched the whole thing, and I now understand what you mean by a humanist. But in relation to feminism I don't see humanism as being diametrically opposed to it. In fact I now consider myself a feminist and a humanist. But because feminism is about something that raises the issue of equality in society are we now saying that someone who doesn't believe in gender equality should be entitled to his belief? Of course he should, I may reject this view but that's his right. But it doesn't change the fact that feminist agenda expects equality in the eyes of law and a person who goes on radio or a forum and says " I don't think women are my equal, they shouldn't be allowed to get certain jobs " is going to get criticised as is my right to do? I am not saying " he must change his view"...I am saying "I don't agree " and the fact we are all allowed to have our views is also a principle of humanism I don't have an issue with feminism, but as others have alluded to, certain feminists take such an overtly aggressive anti-male view that it becomes tiring and off-putting, especially to those who have a moderate and would normally have sympathetic opinion to the feminist cause and gender equality. Unfortunately, these "femme-nazis" have effectively poisoned the well for the rest, eliciting a knee-jerk response when one hears "feminist." That being said, I prefer the more humanistic view as so put forth by Dr. Asimov. I'm glad you liked the video and may I recommend another? Watch A Man for All Seasons (Paul Scofield and Orson Welles version). It's based on the legend surrounding Sir Thomas More - the foremost humanist during the Renaissance era. Themes include standing up for principle, logic, morals, human decency, conviction of beliefs in times of peril, and yes, includes early feminist ideas. http://youtu.be/zbZfh-5QsAw
  2. Plugging it? Oh noes! Does that mean the game has... a memory leak?! 6_u Paging Brandon Adler.
  3. You will have the option to pick Steam or GOG for your download version. The physical copy is just a physical copy and not tied to any particular download agent. That does nothing to answer my question. k.
  4. Cool. Happy that Obsidian has a funnel going for future projects. Hope this becomes something of a success for them. I'll give the card game a shot. Curious to see what type of a pay model they'll put in place. Free to play with micro transactions?
  5. When Obsidian first formed, Feargus bought back many of the art assets of the IWD series from Interplay. *edit* Whoops. Pidesco beat me to it.
  6. What is your definition of a humanist? The reality is even if its the right thing to do purely from a moral perspective that we treat the genders equally that's not how many societies and people function, so we need to legislate certain rights and ways that people need to behave. In an ideal world we shouldn't have to do this, but we don't live in an ideal world. We live in a world where some people feel women are inferior to men and that's not acceptable I'd start with Sir Thomas More...but having grown up reading his work, and opting for something more recent, I'm deferring to my favorite mensch:
  7. Can't we all just agree to be humanists?
  8. If it's actually a cRPG with tactical party based combat then I'm all for it. If it's an action-cross platform rpg similar to DS3...then less so. Just move away from the dreadful art style of the source material. Ick. Still wondering how or who's funding the development. Not seeing any publisher logos from the leaked photos. It'll be interesting the next few days.
  9. I'm down for another game that'll include additional Tim Cain cookie recipes.
  10. Happier Times
  11. My player characters tend to be good-natured xenophobes. This time around, a red-necked, yet altruistic Human Paladin or Priest with a superiority complex towards elves and dwarves. He'll clutch his sword tighter and immediately cross the street whenever he sees an aumaua walking towards him. Also, he can't tell the difference between one orlan to the next. They all look the same. PS- Ashley Williams is the most well-rounded and realistic character from Mass Effect.

  13. Not quite sure what you're asking as the topic title and your posted question are conflicting. Are you asking how long (in content) the beta is? Or how long it will be made available? If the former, we don't know quite sure yet how much content it will have but we do know that it will only include areas that are outside of the critical main story path with content for levels 5-8 of 12. For now, you can purchase the beta up to until August 22 from the Eternity website and it will be released through Steam.
  14. Wheres this update by chance? I cant seem to find it. Referencing post #50 from Labadal. You know what I say in life, why do you have to choose? Why not have both? From the CEO of paizo.
  15. Seriously? What is this, the National Inquirer? Making sensationalistic clickhole judgments as if they are qualified to make snap evaluations of a person's psyche 24 hours after death? Because A then therefore B has to follow. ...
  16. They're playing the Blue Jays. Safeco Field looks like a really nice ballpark.
  17. Do we know if it's going to even be a cRPG? Or consolized?
  18. There is more to it than romance, y'know. Like kicking. And punching. (Let us know if you manage to get the threesome though.) Oh man. That cutscene though!
  19. Hope they atleast host the official forums here rather than at Paizo.
  20. The Rockies are also playing in San Diego tonight though. That was another giveaway.
  21. Nice! Who's playing? I notice you conspicuously wrote "professional" - indicating it's not necessarily an MLB contest.
  22. General acceptance of social change in America ironically enough, usually starts in the segments of our country that is usually perceived to be the most resistant to change: the military and professional sports. Once they are accepted in one of either, or both institutions, they will eventually become accepted into the norm. Athletes are now starting to come out of the closet from many of the major sports, and so far, there has been positive acceptance for the most part. You could make the same argument as well with pop music I suppose...but old curmudgeons still tend to cling to their generational music.
