That's dumb. That is similar change (from 50 to 70) that lobbyists of media corporations drive through in EU, so that it would be same as in USA. It was also one of USA's requisites for Transatlantic Free Trade Area negotiations. Cynical part of me would guess that similar reason can be found behind Canada's change also. USA wants to push their nonsense laws on the rest of the world. Makes sense.

I tend to go between NDP and Liberal, depending on the platform and the leader.

Apparently the Cons extended copyright to 70 years after death to "save" things from Public Domain.

I wouldn't support it. While Canadian culture has heavy american influences, it has heavy British influences too. Most Canadians I know feel more of a kinship with Australia and New Zealand than we do with the US. The lack of Canadian patriotism comes more from a desire not to seem arrogant like the US rather than a lack of passion for our country.

Isn't that what the role of the judicial branch is? I was always taught the role of the judicial branch was to interpret law and set precedent.

I am of the opinion that Canada should just become part of the great and noble USA ....you guys do share a border and you are very influenced by the USA so what have you got to lose...think of the superior military you will gain ? No way. Canada was settled by the people who wanted nothing to do with the US or were chased out by the Patriots. Then we confederated as a country because we were afraid of being absorbed into the US in the aftermath of the civil war. Our history has been one big eff you to being American, not going to stop now. Plus we would have to abandon the monarchy and become a republic. Imagine, a greasy self serving politician as our head of state instead of the classy wonderful Queen we have.

So with the fixed election dates, we now have US style PACs starting up ad campaigns before the election starts in order to bypass election spending restrictions. Also, the NDP, Liberals, and Greens have all made electoral reform part of official party policy, with the NDP and Greens supporting proportional representation, and the Liberals supporting preferential voting. Either way, if either method is passed, its not likely we would ever see another Conservative government, as they have pretty much never had more than 34% support during an election, and outside Alberta and maybe Saskatchewan I don't believe they've ever won a seat with over 50% of the vote. Proportional representation would likely result in a long line of NDP/Liberal or NDP/Green/Bloc coalition governments, and preferential ballots would likely see a back and forth between Liberal and NDP governments. Also, a prominent former Conservative MP was sentenced to a month in jail for electoral fraud http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/06/25/sentencing-today-for-disg_n_7660148.html?ir=Canada+Politics

What's on the idiot box Part 4 (or something)

Killjoys isn't bad. I like Dark Matter better, but the world killjoys puts forward so far is more interesting. -
This is going to lead to the same bad arguments the comics community gets. When we bitch about changing established characters for "diversity" rather than creating new characters to fill the gaps, the main argument we get is "its too hard for new characters to get traction, so its better to change existing ones". Now we've been saying that if the SJWs want their art games that take 30 seconds to play, to make them themselves, and their argument is going to be "well its too hard to succeed doing that, so the established industry should just change to what we want"

After watching Kingsman last night, I'm down for a sequel. Like 2/3rds of the way through it I was like "This is like an old James Bond movie, but with modern filmmaking... its awesome" Istart watching the special features and Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar are talking about how they came up with it by sitting in a bar talking about how Spy movies are too serious and they wanted to make a fun spy movie like the old James Bond movies but modern. Also down for a Hansel and Gretel 2. First one was so absurd, it was glorious. I'm really not all that interested in an Old Man Conan movie, but if it gets off the ground, they should cast Momoa as Conan's son. Even people who didn't like his Conan movie praised him as Conan, and he should be rewarded for it. (though I don't get the hate for his Conan movie. Its pretty much exactly what I expected out of a Conan movie.)

Orphan Black knows the formula for a good season finale. Tie up the major plot points for the season, but introduce hooks for the next. Too many shows rely on cliffhangers. -
I agree showcasing the female devs is a huge step. The biggest problem is in perception. The whole "feelings ARE facts" BS leads to people feeling the industry is hostile to women because people feel it is without facts to back it up, but it must be true because feelings. Showcasing the female devs, who I believe most who have spoken out have said there is no hostility towards them in the industry, will only lead to a perception shift. A "hey look at all those female devs, maybe its not such a bad industry" type thing. More female devs, means more female input, means better stories and characters, means less people like Anita whining about non-problems. Minority representation is a harder beast to tackle though as its roots are likely in economics. More economic problems means less education, means less opportunity. It blew my mind watching Inequality for All and finding out the US largely had free tuition for university in the 60s, now people have to be wealthy, or go into massive debt to go.

No. My issue is what I said it is. Is that there is no less and no more success than there was before. Yet they kept maligning the industry. Yeah they will disagree with facts. Which is exactly the problem. Its not a disagreement with the facts...its there subjective view Something else I find quite bizarre, there are at least 7 prominent gaming websites who have said similar things....yet you guys seem to think they are all going to just parrot the wrong information like they idiotic sheep. You need to give people more credit ...not everyone is as unethical and easily manipulated as you may think I think its less about ethics and more about incompetence. Also: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/our-humanity-naturally/201506/anti-intellectualism-is-killing-america The obsession with feelings over facts is killing America.

NON-Obsidian South Park RPG Sequel Announced!
Oerwinde replied to Infinitron's topic in Computer and Console
PoE was likely more profitable than all of their prrevious games because they get a cut/most of each sale of the game, vs not getting paid for other games after development finishes. -
Bethesda should grab both Obsidian and InXile, then grab MCA, and start up the Fallout: Van Buren franchise. A series of 3rd person turn based fallout games more like modern versions of Fallout 1 and 2. Get each company to do one on a cycle so one comes out every 1-2 years or so.

91% Bernie, Hilary 79%, 53% Rand, 33 % Jeb, 95% Green, 93% Democrat, 91% Socialist, 65% Libertarian, 23% Republican. Guess they need to add Trump to that now.

The "rape culture" moral panic on US college campuses
Oerwinde replied to Ineth's topic in Way Off-Topic
Considering the level of abuse towards women in most societies I have no issue with them having a systemic advantage Its funny but despite all the women I have interacted with in my life I have never been accused of rape and neither have any of my male friends, yet I know women who have been raped So a systemic advantage seems like a good idea, I'm not sure why people are so worried? I've had one friend accused of rape, and one accused of sexual assault. I was there for the SA incident which was nothing the way the woman described(she was harassing him verbally and physically, he pushed her against a wall and told her to leave him alone, she claimed he groped her etc.). The rape accusation was when my other friend was 13, his first time, girl was 2 years older and twice his size. She got pregnant and claimed she was raped because she didn't want to admit to her parents she was sexually active at 15. She dropped it when she realized how much it could destroy my friend if she went through with it. -
Actually, skills aren't. Perks are. It is likely that skills and perks have been turned into one thing, and you may pick the "Science!" perk several times to improve your crafting and other things. See the Pip-Boy below. No Skills tab, but Perks tab is there. Game is 5 months away from being release, 4 months away from going gold. Skills could potentially be in the SPECIAL tab. EDIT: Didn't see the video. Nevermind.

Speaking of major character death, did anyone see the premiere of Defiance? -
