  1. People whined about an off colour joke, Sawyer said he would bring it to his superiors. He then got attacked for bowing to the SJWs for providing basic customer service.
  2. In my opinion, it seems a bit insulting that instead of creating an interesting character of whatever ethnicity/race(black most of the time) they insist on changing a white character into a black character. Like putting on blackface and saying that's good enough.I notice you guys have conveniently ignored my solution to this whole Magneto issue. Why can't he be a black Jewish character? You do get black Jewish people...yes I don't think any black Jews were kept in concentration camps but its a comic...we do allow artistic licence ?Because your solution doesn't fix the perceived problem (which is that Magneto, tied to WWII concentration camps is at least in his 80s) that led to the suggestion to move the character to the 50s/60s and anchored by the US Civil Rights movement. However, as I indicated, this only swaps an 80 year old Magneto for a 70 Year old Magneto, so the issue of age and being tied to a specific point in time is still at play. There are only a handful of WWII era characters around in the Marvel U, and all of them have backstory explanations for why they aren't 80 to 90 in their physicality (Captain America - frozen in ice, Spitfire - vampire, Human Torch - Android, Winter Soldier - Kept in stasis, Namor & Namora - Atlantean Physiology, GA Vision - alien from another dimension, the remainder of The Twelve - kept in stasis, Wolverine - can't age due to regeneration, Mystique - aging irrelevant due to powers, etc). There are ways to deal with this issue that doesn't require changing Magneto into a different character, though. Edit: wrote "Magento" at least once. Totally different character. Characters age in the marvel universe at a rate of 1 year every 3 years real time. Magneto is in his 50s. Doesn't terribly look like the 1980s in the Marvel U right now.I didn't say time passes at that rate, just that characters age at that rate. Then Magneto is an 80 year old with the body of a 50 year old. It doesn't alter the problem that WWII makes him 80 (if you consider it a problem.) http://marvel.wikia.com/Marvel_Time Convoluted. The age rule I was referring to is called the Pryde Scale, as it was devised by taking the time between publication of two issues where Kitty Pryde stated her age, and comparing her age within the comics, and the time elapsed in real life.

  5. It's on the El Rey Network at 8 PM EDT on Wednesdays. If you don't get El Rey Network you can find episodes on dailymotion. Not sure how legal that is, but they're there. Also, they have a guy who wears a deer head to the ring, because, why wouldn't he? Yeah, no El Rey in Canada, so dailymotion it is.
  6. Jupiter Ascending - glad I didn't listen to all the hate. Really enjoyed it, but wasn't huge on the ending. Gone Girl - Wow. Just messed up. Good, but wow.
  7. I pledged for the original as well, and though the game looks much better than the original pitch, I've given what I can.
  8. Where do you watch it? It sounds like exactly what I want in wrestling. I miss old WWE with brainwashing cults, vampires, snd the Ministry of Darkness. With Mankind falling off the top of the cage onto some tacks and Jeff Hardy doing a moonsault off a 20 ft ladder.
  9. I saw in some documentary somewhere that corporations by law have to put profits before people. At least in the US. Found a link that sort of explains what I'm talking about http://www.commondreams.org/views02/0119-04.htm
  10. I know probably not exactly what you're looking for, but... http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/canada/calgary/racist-bullying-plagues-calgary-family-in-mostly-black-housing-complex-mother-says-1.3081784
  11. Not if you go by the definition of racism as "prejudice plus power". rac·ism ˈrāˌsizəm/ noun the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Pretty sure thats the definition most people use. Only people who want to dismiss racism against white people make up the prejudice plus power definition.
  12. But its really a fantasy realm so why not just include minorities? It can still be very Slavic but I don't see the big deal? The big deal is 1) Is that it is quite racist to include minorities for the sake of them being minorities. 2) The double standard. No one is forcing the Japanese/Asian market to include whites or blacks in their games. I know I will fail to convince you but its not racist if its intention is to be inclusive and we don't need other cultures to prompt the white\European race...we already dominate on most levels Racism is still racism despite with "good" intensions, nice try though. Who's "we?" not needing to prompt european race? Who are you talking about? Why is it morally right for any artist pursue this racial/cultural propaganda and why should companies profit from it? I think you are misusing the word " racism " ...what is your definition of racism in this case? Why do you feel Japanese games have to now feature European people? Racism is the belief that races have characteristics that make some superior and others inferior. Okay so how would integrating minority groups in a game like W3 be racist? Integrating them into a game like W3 isn't racist, saying that white-centric game needs PoCs, but a PoC-centric game doesn't is racist. Its saying the white game is inferior without the inclusion of PoC, but the PoC one is just fine without white people. Its perfectly fine to have minority representation in your games, but its also perfectly fine not to.
  13. Technically, no one is forcing Western developers to include minorities in their games either. If you want to split hairs, then you got a point. There's *no push* then from media or the intelligentia for japanese/asian game companies to include non-asians. It would be hair-splitting if the... "push from media and intelligentsia", as you phrase it, had a realistic chance of achieving any effect whatsoever on how big-budget games are produced. But it doesn't. Their loss for their own stupidity then. With that mindset, i would've never played any of the Final Fantasy games. Why on earth Polygon thinks that this is good idea stems either from something very sinister or just very ignorant. This thing right here, exactly this, is what the article was about ?? That minority consumers maybe, just maybe, should be able to voice their complaints of underrepresentation without being insulted and shouted down. No, it is about having games made by white people in white countries based on white culture to be changed to suit the possible needs of minorities in other countries. That's insanity. Thats another thing. When we talk about Minority Representation, who's minorities are we talking about?

  15. I'm saying it shouldn't matter. White people don't have a responsibility to tell stories about brown people, and vice versa.
  16. Your absolute tone-deafness and inability to look at things in a wider cultural context would be a lot less jarring if you at least managed to avoid insulting everybody who doesn't happen to agree with you. The wider cultural contex argument might hold water if the game in question wasnt developed by a polish dev based in a polish story, for a polish publisher, in Poland, where the idea of minority representation just isn't an issue because minorities are statistically irrelevant.
  17. Saying that a story based on Slavic mythology is problematic for not including brown people while a story based on indian mythology not including white people isn't only makes sense if you are a crazy person or a racist.
  18. I dunno, I'm your generic eastern european mix of slavic, germanic and god knows what else, and didn't really feel the article was trying to erase me or my culture. Well, this is more about what the text says and not what you feel, is it not? When the argument is that it's exactly like racist grandparents yelling about "pollacks stealing our jobs", I think it might matter whether I feel that comparison holds water or not. Also, I feel we leave out vital context when we interpret the text as the author arguing for "slavic culture [being] less than chinese". The article was responding to the very specific argument that the Witcher's world not featuring people of color is exactly like a story based on Indian mythology not featuring white people. It's saying that the two things are not even remotely alike when you view it from a wider cultural perspective, which is... actually kind of reasonable? I mean, if you read the entire article, I'd argue it's not even about the Witcher, much less about condemning CD Projekt for the lack of diversity. I dont get why devs from a country that is 98.6% white has to worry about diversity.
  19. Its stuff like that that makes the white genocide people sound reasonable. Particularly their points about how white countries and cultures are constantly under pressure to be accommodating to other races and cultures and a desire for homogeny is viewed as awful and racist, but for brown/black/asian cultures/races, a desire for homogeny is seen as proper and their right.
  20. Basic income would be essential to keep society going as is, but that's short term. We'll have to completely reorganize our economy if we want to make it long term.
  21. Speaking of people jailed for facebook posts, what happened to Justin Carter?
  22. This. I was interested in it, after a day of bitching about how much stupidity is permeating society it would be cathartic to go home and shoot up a bunch of The Masses, but TotalBiscuit's WTF is made me lose a bit of interest.
  23. I liked Lady in the Water
  24. Could this be? Could this finally be the moment when actual industry people start to call FF for their bull****? The article itself linkes to this: https://medium.com/@adrianchm/feminist-frequency-and-the-witcher-3-6b126d3d6206 Dear lord, what happened to the graphics in Witcher 3 btw? That just looks appaling Another good piece from Adrian. I really hope these are the first signs developers and journalists start to see what FF is all about, which is a human equivalent of a broken clock: "It's always 12 o'clock. Everything is 12 o'clock." Years of Conservative political ads makes me ask: Context? I need to hear what was said before and after before I make judgement on that statement.
