  2. I liked A4, but not because of the script; the script was pretty poor. The visuals and direction made the movie work.
  3. Last I read, it was confirmed he was not doing X3. Which might not be a bad thing, though. I'm not really a fan of Whedon - I love Firefly, but Buffy and Angel were pretty crappy, and he didn't exactly do wonders with Alien 4. Apparently he did some writing for the X1 and was responsible for some of the cheesier dialogue, too.
  4. I'm quite disappointed that Bryan Singer opted to go with the Superman movie rather than doing X-Men 3. The X-Men movies have been fantastic, due largely to Singer and his writing team; without them on board, I fear X3 will be lacking. As far as a new Superman movie goes, I have no interest in it at all; it hardly seems necessary. I liked the character when I was a kid, but I find he doesn't "age" well. The only way I could see finding something of substance in a Superman film was if it presented the character in a darker fashion, akin to Miller's portrayal of him in The Dark Knight Returns. That said, if anyone can make a decent Superman movie, I'm sure Singer can, but I'd still rather him do X3. Superman is so Americana and there's no way around that unless you're willing to seriously bend the character far from the typical perceptions of him.
  5. The bear could be some sort of escapee from a scientific compound on the island. That's if they go with a secret conspiracy/island of Dr. Moreau kind of thing. That said, there's no reason "It" has to be one or another, there may be a combination of things at work. The secret scientific conspiracy could be the source of the "force" at work on the island.
  6. I doubt they'd just drop it and leave it unaddressed, it seems to important. I think scenario 2 is most likely. His mother sent Jack to find his father and bring him home, and that is going to play out in some manner, I'm sure. I'm thinking it's more of a subconscious thing, rather than a surface emotion thing. Or even a collective psyche/subconsciousness that's involved. There may be some metaphorical aspect of it as well. As you said, the pilot was chewed up and spit out, rather than eaten. Being chewed up and spit out is a common metaphor for going through some terrible trial or experience. He looked into the eye of the island, and it was beautiful. Like looking into the eye of the monster and seeing something wonderful. Or the calm centre at the eye of a hurricane storm. He may also have seen what he wanted to see; the force may manifest depending on the individual. Agreed. But whether the "islanders" are one of those sides, or caught in the middle, remains to be seen. There's a lot of conflict within that group, so are the two sides present in that group itself? Is that conflict the driving source of the "monster"? Again, a possible manifestation depending on the individual involved. As observed, Lock seems to understand more about what's going on than the others. His experiences have been positive and beneficial, while the others are more chaotic and uneasy, agitated. Lock is at ease with things, and that ease is reflected in his experiences. Again, he saw beauty in the island, not violence that the others do. This could be the light and dark side at work. The forces of the mind... (the two sides of the brain even?) working to make sense of things or what have you. This is intriguing. I'm curious to see what comes of this. Was that recording real, or just another manifestation? Sounds almost messianic, doesn't it? But he didn't save one woman, he saved one and let another die. No, that's too cheap a trick, I think. I favour the subconscious manifestation theory right now. The whole show has a definite Forbidden Planet vibe to it, as I've said earlier, and the "id monster" fits really well. The other theories are a bit weak, I think. The government conspiracy plot is possible, but I think it would be a flimsy pretense to fit together and make work, depending on too much "miraculous chance" situations and whatnot.
  7. That's very much the impression I got from this episode; that the ghost of Jack's father was some manifestation of the island's powers. Again, I look back to the "Id monster" concept from Forbidden Planet; it's as though the force on the island is "controlled" or given shape by the strongest fears and emotions of the people there. What's interesting though, is that the coffin in which Jack's father should have resided, was empty. So was it a ghost or hallucination, or was the figure the actual body, animated? I saw that in the theatre, but can't remember what it was about really. Indeed. Again, the monster was after those who were most terrified, was it not? Lock is calm, and so not a potential victim. I suspect Lock has a clue as to what is happening, but isn't telling, almost as though he believes the rest must figure it out on their own.
  8. You assume I'd watch crap like that?! I ought to have you baned for that

    Farscape

Ah, ok. It's still early here, and I hadn't yet finished my first coffee of the day, so forgive my cluelessness. And yes, I completely agree with you. Now about that coffee situation.........

    Farscape

No it won't. Part of the reason Farscape was dumped by Sci-Fi was the cost, and both Henson Productions and the Farscape creatorive team's refusal to move from the expensive puppet animatronics to cheaper CGI. It costs a lot of money to make Farscape, and it would be much cheaper if they went with CGI, but those responsible for Farscape would rather see it cancelled than compromised, and I agree with them. If Farscape went the movie route, you can be sure it would use the same puppets and such the TV show does, and to a greater degree given the customarily higher budget of films. Sure there'd be lots of CGI (each successive season of the show had more CGI) but that does not mean the puppets would be abandonded. Farscape is produced by Henson Productions, they're all about puppetry! <skipped Dakoth's spoiler post - if anyone else has big spoiler content, please be kind and mark it as such, for my sake. please?>
  11. We had a similar thing happen in Ontario a few years ago, and on a much larger scale. There were protesters gathered in Toronto to protest the provincial government, and the Premier had the riot police on hand and all hell broke lose. Protesters were brutalised and for little more than what happened in the situation mentioned in Jacksonville. However, it did not diminish the right to protest, remove freedoms, or bring about an apocalyptic end. It's crappy that it happens, but it does and you deal with it, hope that blame is placed in the right areas and punishments distributed accordingly, and move on.
  12. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.
  13. It depends, really. Use your best judgement. I don't like to see old, mega-page threads bumped, as long threads are usually spam-filled and wandering to off-topic discussions. More often than not, people that bump huge threads don't have anything great to add anyways and the thing just becomes a lumbering back-from-the-dead mess. But if there's a fairly small and on-topic thread that's back a page or two and you've got something substantial to add to that discussion, then by all means use that thread rather than starting a new one.

    Farscape

The future of Farscape is pretty open-ended and really depends on things like how well the miniseries does, what Henson Productions can do, interest from TV stations or movie studios and so on. I know it had been mentioned by Rockne O'Bannon (the series mastermind) and someone at Henson that it's possible the show could go into movie format or a series of mini-series, or even regular television production, but it all depends on many factors. Mainly that PKW has to do very well in ratings.

    Farscape

And how is that rock under which you've been living? Must be pretty nice... The Peacekeeper Wars is a four part miniseries designed to pretty much finish off the Farscape story. Of course, if it does really well, the show could be continued in some form. Dakoth, that's very kind of you. Someday I want my PC as a media centre, but that just hasn't happened yet.

    Farscape

This pains me to no end. The PK Wars are not airing in Canada. Not even on cable (Sci-Fi isn't a channel option). Hopefully it won't take long for the DVD to be released as our version of Sci-Fi (The Space Station) can't get the airing rights until next year. It's "Sebacean", by the way.
  17. What he said.
  18. I think there's a problem with the new format and screen resolution. My "Fast Reply/Reply to this topic/Topic Options/Start new topic" bar is displaying way far to the right and I have to scroll horizontally to access them. Also, it's bumped up and covers up some of the other functions. My monitor is set at 1280x960.
  19. Shatner's new album does not, from what I've heard of it, come anywhere near the brilliance of The Transformed Man.
  20. Co-op definately enhances gameplay and I'm all for it being included whenever and wherever possible. Simply by virtue of playing with other people, a game can be dramatically improved or made a more enjoyable experience. Even with the poor MP set up of the Infinity Engine games, I thoroughly enjoyed playing those in co-op, particularly IWD2. I found that style of game-play revitalised the game and presented it in a new way - the same with BG2. I can't stand playing BG2 alone, but I love it in co-op. So yeah. Yay co-op gameplay!
  21. Moved to Way Off Topic, the place to discuss films.
  22. The one with the Backgammon game? That was the first one that jumped to my mind at Marc's suggestion of one of the characters having not been on the plane.
  23. Which one would you say that is? The show hasn't given a backstory/on-the-plane scenario for every character. As far as favourite character goes, I haven't one yet. I can't help but like Dominic Monahan and Harold Perrineau. I like the Iraqi fellow, Said. The "hero" is ok, but he's more a "hero" type than a doctor; it's almost as though he's an actor playing a doctor (like a soap opera or ER-type doctor) rather than a real one. That could very well be the case, too; I'd find it dead funny for him to admit that he's not a real doctor, but just plays one on TV.
  24. Perhaps she was hoping that by saving him, he may speak in favour of leniency for her. Or maybe she was afraid that blame for not doing anything to save him may get leveled against her. Or perhaps she is innocent of any crime and did what any decent person would do.
  25. And don't they know it! Flying around, abducting humans, administering anal probes and letting them go. And the only thing they've learned is that 1 out of 10 seems to like the probe. Thank you, Kids In The Hall.
