I thought the character was very consistant between the two films.

Taken from scifi.com: Vin Diesel, who starred in The Chronicles of Riddick, told SCI FI Wire that he thinks the franchise will soldier on, even though it fared less well at the box office than hoped. "It depends who you ask," Diesel said in an interview while promoting the DVD release of The Chronicles of Riddick Unrated Director's Cut. "For me, we made Pitch Black with $20 million. I think you can continue this character regardless of the film budget." Diesel added, "Will the next film be a PG, $100 million-and-something movie? Could the next film be

It's his Kindergarden Cop. You know, showing he's more than an action guy (which he is, it just pains me to see actors I like in crap films).

Pitch Black is no doubt better than CoR, and from what I've read in interviews Vin is in agreement. He wants the next Riddick film to return to the more spartan, lower-budget R-rated form of PB rather than a huge-budget over-produced CGI PG-13 extravaganza. The last-of-his-kind thing is a bit cheesey, but it's not a big deal for me. I think the concept is more that he falls unwittingly into the prophecy of one culture, rather than being the big hero. Cliched yes, but at least it has a darker theme to it, rather than a Luke Skywalker type scenario. I didn't get the implication that Riddick was some supernatural hero; so he's the last of a race (which given what the Necromongers do for an un-living, is completely plausible), but that doesn't change that he is a self-trained bad-ass with minor surgical enhancements. There's also nothing that says he's a saviour of the galaxy; he's found himself in command of a very evil culture. If the next film does go back to the feel and style of Pitch Black, I think there's a great deal of potential for a dark, gritty story. That's exactly what CoR was, Conan in space. There were scenes in the film that would fit perfectly in a Conan film. There were a few girls in Pitch Black...

I can't wait to see the director's cut of Riddick. I'll likely buy a copy (and Pitch Black as well), as the fate of the series depends on how well DVD sales go, and I really want it to keep going. Spider-Man 2 was really good as well. Molina was brilliant and he and Maguire worked extremely well together and had a much better dynamic than with DeFoe. What I didn't like was the impending return of the Green Goblin, or at least, the indication that the same suit will be used again. That was a travesty in the first film and I'd hate to see it repeated.

I liked The Incredibles well enough, but I'm not understanding the lavish praise anc accolades being dumped on it. It was fun, and had some good moments, but all in all it wasn't astoundingly super amazing.

I haven't seen The Machinist yet, but certainly want to; it looks great.

I'd have to say I enjoyed Shrek 2 the most this year.

I tried skiing once, back many years ago. I'm still traumatised by the event.

I'm noticing the same thing as of late. Threads are at the top with indicated last posts of today, but the last post is actually a few days old. I'm using Firefox as well, but I just checked the boards with IE and there's no difference, the odd chronology is still present in both browsers.

Yes. Yes I most certainly do.

Posting increases level, but level means nothing (ie nothing happens, you don't get any special priviliges or anything like that), so please don't spam just to raise your post-count. *looks angrily at the spammers  *

That goes without saying, I'd think.

Well, it's "standard transmission" vs "automatic transmission". Standard being a regular manual-shift transmission and automatic being non-manual. I don't think the term standard has anything to do with it being a standard feature. *avoids making a lame pun on differential*

Ha. No pun intended?

Just wait 'til someone disturbs sunken R'lyeh. Then there's gonna be trouble!

Looks like this one is ready to be put out of it's misery.

Done and done.

That's what I mean about it hopefully going someplace, and I hope it gets there quickly. The internal bickering is getting tedious and, for me, is diluting the show. The possibility of Jack being an army doctor had crossed my mind, as it would fit with the tattoos, the short haircut and the leadership sensibility. But I don't see why if that's the case it's such a secret. Maybe he did something horrible.
-
Indeed. They're setting it up so it's group A vs group B, rather than all of them against whatever is on the island. I can only hope that all this set-up actually goes someplace interesting and that the result is worthwhile. By the way, do you think Jack is a real doctor? I was suspicious of his being such, and then they showed the tattoos and someone mentioned it was odd for a doctor to have tattoos and Jack was vague in answering.

Sounds fantastic! Taxes must be quite high? Which is a fair trade-off for free health care and education provided the quality of such is good - which it must be to be rated so highly by the UN.

The stick to the back of Said's head was the best part of the show as it at least advances the plot and points to potential salvation from the mire the show is falling into. Any speculation on who Said's assailant is? I'm thinking it's someone native to the island rather than one of the "castaways". At least, I hope it is as that will definately move the story ahead. Another thing.. Now, I've never been in a jungle so I don't know how dark it gets in one during daylight, but didn't it seem just a bit too dark at the cave and spring site as opposed to the glaring daylight elsewhere on the island?

I'm very glad they chose to keep the design intact and not do any drastic "re-imaginings". I wonder if they still sound as cool...
