  1. All of the best Kickstarters have been those that have already been able to fund the barebone necessities, usually with previous successes, and have opened the door to additional crowdfunding, the best examples being Shadowrun: Dragonfall (and no doubt Shadowrun: Hong Kong, although it's too early to say) and Divinity: Original Sin. I think that they should absolutely Kickstart and crowdfund any potential Pillars of Eternity sequel(s) too. It is an amazing model, and high-quality studios of integrity can, as we have seen, be trusted to come through, even as the vision may change.
  2. I *suspect* that the enchantment system is going to make things pretty customizable. It doesn't really seem like there's going to be a single "best weapon" so much as a "best set of options / build", though I suspect that the -DR enchantment is going to be pretty universally popular. I don't know. Currently, there's some real wonkyness going on in the optimization department when it comes to weapons, and lighter weapons are quite clearly underpowered compared to high-penetration heavy weapons, and Dueling is quite clearly the worst.
  3. Perfect party in terms of min/max or my personal feelings? Because I could totally go for a party full of Godlike Bleak Walkers of varying flavours. rouge/rogue is way behind to/too/two, their/they're/there, your/you're, accept/except, than/then and its/it's. HA! Good Fun! I bet that's just by frequency of use. There's a whole lot more attempts at except than rogue, methinks.
  4. I wanted to play Dragonfall but it's a shame it was english only, considering that Returns was translated I missed that masterpiece cause of that Man, you'll be missing out big time, then. They're not doing localization because it's not worth it any more, so they're not doing it for Shadowrun: Hong Kong, either. When the first Shadowrun Returns game came out, I thought it was decidingly meh. Shadowrun: Dragonfall was quite 'alright', but Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut is just amazing. They are really displaying that iterative, evolutionary approach I so very much love when it comes to games, expansions and sequels. I can't wait for Shadowrun: Hong Kong. They "only" raised 1,2 mil on Kickstarter, but seeing as how they were already working on the game, that should be a tremendous boost and it's looking even better than Dragonfall Director's Cut. Your English isn't utterly terrible, man, you shouldn't have a big problem with Shadowrun, really. If nothing else, see it as practice.
  5. Well, if you went Magran, you could take the Inspired Flame talent and get a bonus to both sword and arquebus, then take weapon focus (soldier?) and get another +10 bonus to Arequebus, right? I think the priests all have special weapon talents in the favored weapons for exactly that reason. Yes, as far as I know, the bonus from Inspired Flame and Weapon Focus (Soldier) stacks as they should.
  6. Elaborate, if you may.
  7. Also, the "Enhanced Editions" are little more than elaborate mods. Neera obviously doesn't count, she's a modded-in oddity and entirely out of place in BG1.
  8. Oh, don't get me wrong, of course there are. I've known several marxists that definitely can be called gamers. But that's not really the issue, it wouldn't even be an issue if marxists produced games with marxist messages (if you ask me, at least), honestly, but the issue is the tactic itself. A marxist gamer looks at games and thinks, "Hey, I think I can make a good game", and then his ideals will of course colour that game, some may even go so far as to make their politics a concious part of the game. Fair enough. He's a gamer, he looks to games as a medium, and he sees the art, the hobby, he appreciates gaming because of what it is and what it can do. A cultural marxist looks at the gaming industry and sees it's potential as an engine for cultural subversion. If you are a cultural marxist, you are really just a marxist that employs the tactic of cultural marxism, and if you employ that tactic, you cannot be a fan of the medium you employ it against, or you wouldn't be doing it.
  9. As much as I'd like to agree with you in general, on this you're wrong. There is nothing fascist about it - "fascist" is a whole 'nother neck of the woods. What you are describing is essentially cultural marxism, which is about as far away from fascism as possible. The issue essentially boils down to people, cultural marxists, who have no interest in gaming as a hobby, seeks to use it as a political platform. It is a tactic that is simply alien to most forms of fascist thought, and can be considered culturally anti-fascist in that it subverts the ideals of fascism (action instead of words, honesty instead of guile, etc).
  10. After South Park: The Stick of Truth, not being a fan of South Park and recently watching a lot of Archer, I can't help but to imagine how awesome it would be to do a Alpha Protocol-type game starring Sterling Archer and the Archer art style. Going through an entire story-arc of layer upon layer of espionage intrigue without ever mentioning what year it is. Spy-oriented tropes upon tropes. On purpose. Flailing wildly from disaster to disaster yet somehow making it out alive because you're kickass. Who needs Q when you have Dr. Krieger? Cyborgs.
  11. The Glorious Marxist Caliphate of Southern Swedonia.
  12. I can't really agree enough, except that being an avid RPG player, I've learned to instinctually metagame, which means that while you ask for money, I just know that eh, it'll work out, making me roleplay the most happy-go-lucky good guys whenever I roleplay a good guy, like a non-atypical-autism Sterling Archer. Because 99 times out of 100, it'll work itself out. I can't even think of a CRPG where I've felt poor once I've learned the ropes (Is that your painting, Sir? Would you mind talking to my colleague here while I admire the painting in private? Don't mind the barrel.). I'm really not sure how you'd fix it, and striking that balance between utterly destitute and swimming in gold is near-impossible in a world where you live like a murderhobo and life is without maintenance. And while I wouldn't mind if a game let you become filthily rich, these types of "down to earth"-games often leaves you without options to buy things you'd probably buy if you were part of the 1%. Bribe officials, buy a gilded cart, hire peasantry to carry your wine around, etc. Still nothing about otters, I mean.. D:
  13. I will agree to romances if exclusively Chris Avellone writes them and everyone else coming close to his table is shocked by the then-mandatory shock collars. [spoilers]Geriatric love story and everyone dies in the end.[/spoilers]
  14. BTW it's amusing how Obsidian fanboys are willing to defend PoE even in a topic where OP made a positive comment on the games design. How.. how did you interpret that as "defending" PoE? While I'm actually a pretty big fan of Obsidian and I genuinely think that PoE will be pretty good, I'm generally referred to as toxic. I absolutely loathe the sneaking mechanics in PoE. Warning, spoilers for BG2, which may come as a great surprise to you: Semantics. You still still "need" a "rogue character" as much in PoE as you "needed" it in the IE games. You just won't "need" someone that happens to have the rogue class.
  15. Say what? You get a pure thief right at the beginning. OP is right, in IE games thief was the only class with all rogue skills. Yoshimo? Oh, sweet summer child...
  16. Better than the IE games? Maybe, maybe; honestly most of for example BG2 isn't all that amazing, with some exceptions. I'd argue that IWD looks the best. But either way, better than (what we've seen) of PoE? No way, no how. Alright, so, I haven't gotten that far in D:OS (I keep restarting and I really want to play this with my GF, but she doesn't have a compooter) so I'm just judging based on my experience so far.
  17. The -0.3 crit multiplier seems... overboard, unthematic and unnecessary. I'm not saying that it'd "fix" pistols, just that I see absolutely no reason why that'd be a thing.
  18. I find it funny that you'd say that a rogue is "necessary" in the IE games, when one of the single most iconic IE games, Baldur's Gate II, doesn't even supply you with a pure Thief. Sufficient to say is that while a rogue is nice to have in the IE games, they're pretty far from necessary. And it's even funnier that you say "I can finally give that duty to someone that is usefull for something other than sneak attack/backstabbing/half assed archer. I've never been a fan of stealth in these games, and I don't really care for the sneaky combat approach." Rogues in PoE is far more than backstabbing. They make great archers. Stealth "in these games" does not apply; sneaking works completely differently in PoE than it did in IE and is largely useless. "The sneaky combat approach" is practically useless and all but impossible, but if you by "the sneaky combat approach" mean scouting ahead, that is more or less mandatory because 90% of a fight is decided by initial positioning.
  19. What on Earth are you talking about? Why wouldn't Paradox take a cut?
  20. Absolutely. The main "problem" with that idea is actually the Ranger class itself, which is.. underperforming. But as a concept, yeah, especially Blunderbuss or Arquebus should work well. I personally can't comment much on Crossbows or Pistols, though.
  21. Fixed that for you... I'll believe it when I see it. On topic, I like the Paladin's concept in PoE. Although, I do think they could use a few more active abilities. My main will be a paladin, I'm trying to decide between the Shieldbearers and the Wayfarers. I'm thinking Shieldbearers, but I don't want have shield and that seems wrong to me. :D Oh, sorry, I wasn't actually thinking of the Carnifex being awesome - because it is - I just meant that while awesome/powerful (just like a looted carnifex) it's shoddy (as all things orky). As for the shieldless Shieldbearer, just fluff it as carrying the figurative, metaphysical shield of St. Elcga, and carrying another shield would be to dishonour your charge.
  22. Fixed that for you... I'll believe it when I see it.
  23. I'll be honest, my first thought was "Why can't THIS be my stronghold?" Absolutely beautiful.
  24. In a design-fashion sense it sure looks dated (which is the point of making this game), but I think that PoE looks way better than divinity graphically. Having just started playing Divinity: Original Sin (I had been avoiding it until recently, because it looked like a plain ol' ARPG and the previous Divinity games have been sorta meh) and I can't agree on this more. This is not a jab at D:OS, it's a great game, and the graphics are good, and using DO:S format, they just couldn't have done the same thing as PoE, but if we're discussing which is more aesthetically pleasing, PoE wins hands down, all rounds.
