Just shows you what people are like, getting "angry" over an engine choice? Words fail me... and most of that anger stemming from fact that just one of the many capabilities of unity is making cartoony games for mobile devices... not much to add here. i haven't yet read a good argument against unity.

Yeeeeah, given how proudly you suggested it to me, I'm guessing you don't really want to hear my opinion of that game. But on the other hand i never liked the previous two, neither. Anyway, let's just say what's relevant here: no, I really don't like how DS3 looks. and by "looks" do You mean animations and modeling craftsmanship? because i thought that that was relevant, and that's what the example was meant to point out.

Chris Avellone has twitted that onyx had not been chosen because of the cost of the middleware. If I remember correctly Feargus Urquhart has also mentioned a working engine prototype in day 1 gamebanshee interview, so it is safe to assume, as reddie has, that unity had been the choice before the kickstarter opened. where have people took to this notion, that adequete looks can't be achieved with unity (and i mean adequete for whatever high standard one expects from this game)? are You actually saying, that a twelve years old engine is capable of producing better graphics than a newely developed one? ?

A thought on PE's graphics
sesobebo replied to Posbi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
agreed...but a kinda want my cloaks to flow a bit in the wind and a few added things of that nature to bring it to life. but that has nothing to do with background and more to do with character models - which, as far as i know, will be 3d modeled, animated and rendered.(and it has even more to do with how much time someone wants to spend implementing physics, correcting collisions, etc. with afore mentioned cloaks. i'd totally like to see them flapping in the wind, but it's not my decision to make q: )- 22 replies

for those who got hung on to the wasteland 2 videos, here's just a few examples of how games made with unity engine might look: (taken from the unity games galery) basically: the game can end up looking like whatever they want it to end up looking like. unity is just a handy, ready to use workbench with some tools, so you don't have to go bare-handed searcnhing for that granite stone, so you can chip your flint, so you can make an axe, so you can chop down that tree, so you can make that workbench yourself.

See, this still requires you to either look up spoilers in a FAQ or rely on 2nd play throughs. After all, there could well be a number of quirky seldom needed spells. Why force the player to guess at what they'll need? More often than not the player will guess wrong if they aren't cheating and thus seldom used spell once again goes without being used. but isn't this the point where other parts of game design come into play? encounters that fit into enviroment, so you are not too surprised by those trolls under the bridge, sensibly written npcs that might have warned you about the oncoming blizzard, if only you'd lisened...

how about giving casters both a mana pool and a spell pool per day. upon resting you refill a non-regenerating pool of mana, but you also prepare a limited list of spells, that you might want to cast that day, for which that mana will be used (basicly - you get to chose what kind of sorcerer are you gonna be untill next camp site). you still get to have to make your homework, so you know what kind of dangers you'll be facing, but you can still toss in a few experimental spells, that would otherwise go completely unused.

Classes
sesobebo replied to Crosmando's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
considering that magic is supposed to be tied to one's soul, non-standard forms of magic could manifest to benefit traditionally non-magic classes: warriors ritually enchanting their weapons, or enhancing themselves with bodypaintings or tatoos, tinkers finding life in mechanical contraptions, bards generally imbuing everyones abilities (because bards are awesome like that), assassins or other very skilled killers being better at mending combat wounds, etc. -
(im)possibility of a toolkit?
sesobebo replied to fan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
mr Feargus said in a couple of interview that one of the team's wishes is to continue making these games. i'd think that putting together a somewhat non-painful to use tools would be as much in obsidian's interest as ours. -
Please, NO GUNS!
sesobebo replied to ZeshinX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Where have You read that it's going to be a "traditional fantasy RPG"? As far as I'm aware, the word from the start was, that this is a completely new world in a completely new setting. Have I missed something? -
for me, the ideal era to mimic would be the just-before-the-industrial-revolution age. the old technology is well developed and the new is just starting to make appearance, and a lot of people have a lot of time to hold old grudges. so, yes, i don't mind guns at all. if they fit well. come to think of it - you can put flying cars in, if you can convince and make me believe that they should be there.

What would make you pledge more?
sesobebo replied to Ilrahan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
more digital only pledge packages i guess? -
Damn! I never thought of that! You are right! So it is settled then? Shall we go for a Linux only game? After all, it is free (and it is free), and you can install it on any computer, so it shouldn't make any difference to you. Not much to add here. Here You go dan107. 3 mouse clicks and You're all set. Please, don't forget to up Your pledge for the amount saved on the next Windows iteration. Edit: In light of this new bit of information I'd be baffled if the chosen engine - be it house written or adopted - wouldn't support different platforms.

Please, I beg of You, read the stuff You are commenting on, not to mention opening a new topic for. The goal for $2,2M is: I'd say You haven't read the w hole thing 'till the end, but the massive content upgrade is mentioned before the linux support, so I have no idea how that could've happened. as for Disregarding the asumptions in there, I invite You to answer - to Yourself - these three questions: Why is the following dedicated, why is it small, and do linux users want to run windows for theire games?

Sorry, I'm really not trying to harp on You, but again You seem to be getting Your information from a source unknown to me. Quote from the very first paragraph on the kicksatrter page:
