  1. but, as far as i know, nobody said that You won't be able to explore (and be rewarded for it). that there won't be wandering monsters. that You won't be able to wander off... You just won't be getting xp for every individual kill, but for reaching a certain - however arbitrary - goal. and also, can't the game's combat mechanics be enjoyed without the xp reward? i really don't see what the fuss is about \:
  2. They will be separate, just like BG games, they are just connected on a technical level with regard to loading into memory or whatever, AI etc. (i know; it was more of an answer to OP's wish for eternity to take a leaf from fallouts' and arcanum's book)
  3. i believe that whatever gets 'chipped in' goes to the kickstarter on the last day (or last hour, or minute). the 10k goal is there just because that's the highest tier that can be pledged.
  4. outside and inside areas need to be separated. otherwise You end up with either oversized building exteriors or cramped building interiors.
  5. not all the blokes in the picture are companions, and all the companions are not in the picture. so You can keep them fingers crossed. q:
  6. pretty much everything is on the kickstarter page (the tiers are described in detail here) every pledge of $25 and up guarantees You at least the digital download of the game, when it'll be finished. (otherwise this would be called stock exchange) the big counter on the page is for when this funding campaign stops; that's also when the money from Your CC is collected. paypal payments will probably be possible after this kickstarter ends, but don't count on all the reward tiers still being there. all the money is promised to go towards making the game. the more they get, the more people can work on it = the bigger the game. (big modern games can cost tens of millions of dollars - but huuuge chunks of this money go for marketing, voice actors, CG scenes etc.) the question is basically: do You trust them with $25 to make the [great] game they've promised ($45 with expansion that will go in the works right after the main game)? and here's a pic of what it'll look like:
  7. see, that's a pro tip right there. just start with the basics :D
  8. yes. that's my point. if 43k peeps liked kickstarter page, why aren't they liking the obsidian profile?
  9. i'll be very surprised, if by the 2014 gog won't be supporting linux.
  10. it could enhance the exploration, but it'd have to not be a one time gimick, and be all in all quite rewarding, for it to be justified. commandoses(?) did it quite well, but they were games on a different scale, with different gameplay and goals, and played at a different pace (and they had split screens for multiple cameras that could be placed around the level, which helped a lot, as the camera wouldn't have to be fiddled with, once the views were set)
  11. the textures for models are still hand-painted, and the post-processing still involves quite a bit of hand-work - mostly painting. and as Tigranes said, the details have to be made for all four sides, not just one - so it's not just a question of raw computer power. ?
  12. awww yisss. now what i'd like to see is strategy guide having a centerfold that just keeps unrolling and unrolling...
  13. i just want to ask one favor of You: can You please not use Justin Sweet's Icewind Dale portrait as Your avatar, when making statements like this?
  14. not that exact kind. max party size will be 6 not 4. and that's pretty much the only thing we know. we don't know how inventory will work, how magic memorization will work, how many spells/feats/skills there will be. all this stuff shapes the UI. i don't care if the game is made fro toasters and gameboys and whatnot, as long as the gameplay is not in any way compromised. but considering console's input devices, processing powers, and games made for them (i'd say that DA:O had a mess of an inventory, and withcher 2's was even worse), i very much doubt that'd have been the case.
  15. i'd say that some modding orientated documentation, just to cut out the irritating iterating interlude, would be quite nice.
  16. i don't think it's his aleged lack of ability to think. it might have more to do with You concluding that, if The Nameless One was able to pick a custom made character from a slave dock, his story would cease to be unique...
  17. that's some impressive logic bending You have there... *i din't pick ignus. has his story suffered for it? *if You want more story, pick compaions with story, and don't make Yourown at adventurer's hall. *??? *i'd asume that people You don't want at Your house don't hang around Your house. Same goes for uninvited people. *then don't have 6 PCs. just a stab: have You perhaps confused Adventurer's Hall, where You'll be able to custom make mercenaries, with Player's House, where You'll be able to do whatever it is that You'll be able to do?
  18. i don't think You need to worry, at least as far as lore goes. and i doubt they'll be making any kind of models without concept art.
