  1. Shouldn't that also mention non-combat skills? Somebody posted a screenshot showing intimidation on a character sheet.
  2. Geohot settles with Sony The terms are of course confidential but it seems that hackers donating to the defense fund were hoping for a different outcome. EDIT:Seems the terms didn't stay secret for long. Most seem to be generic "you shall not hack anything Sony ever again" agreements. No sign of a big paycheck conspiracy theorists were imagining.
  3. The days of such complexity are long gone. Have you actually seen modern gamers trying to play thief? It's not pretty. I'm currently playing Darksiders. It's generally ok for a mindless game but tries too hard to be too many things at once.
  4. No it's not. That modern games have abused the term to pretend action games have more depth doesn't mean that the essence of what is an RPG experience can be discounted completely. RPGs were never about levels and XP points but about the way metric were used to describe world and character that shaped your experience. If your reflexes and manual dexterity played as big a role as those metrics the game was called action-rpgs if they were far more important it was simply an action game. Analogically tactical-rpgs and strategy games were determined by the weight of your tactical and strategic decisions. Whatever will RPG mean when devs finally rebrand it is more difficult to ascertain but considering the current trend "there are numbers in it" will likely suffice.
  5. Could you give source for this? Would love to see fort battles remodeled and some improvements to unit behavior but it does seem a little late.
  6. Too bad they didn't mention pancreas cancer. I'd love to find out how many people here are looking forward to experiencing some of the worst pain known to modern medicine. Marijuana may be a bad example. It is after all most commonly smoked.
  7. If you can tell it's a woman then it's not really realistic.
  8. There's huge numbers of enemies to be sure but I never found it grindy in a mmorpg way. It's just the gameplay style. I do think it would be a difficult play for anyone who is used to DA or ME or even Oblivion. Plus there is the party combat from a first-person viewpoint which I think would be really offputting to a gamer who didn't grow up with the style when it was common. my first crpg was fallout in 1997 (at which time it became my favorite game and spawned my love of the crpg). I see that M&M 6 came out in 1998, the same year as baldurs gate, so it cant be THAT archaic right? It can. Some dungeons in game may actually need days to clear providing you won't hit respawn time by the time your done. Add to that the seriously unbalanced spells - if you miss the right magic path you can screw yourself permanetly. In short - there is a reason why M&M and Wizardry series died out. Besides there are better candidates for seeing older WRPG more in line with standards Fallout/BG would later establish - you can check the likes of Dark Sun, Realms of Arkania or even Betrayal duology. They are a little older tho and it can be felt on the graphic/UI front.
  9. Now that is intresting as apparently no base was given to the cells before they started forming the eye. Let's just hope that it won't end up like the "regrowing teeth with stem cells" idea.
  10. I'm not removing any agency from women merely questioning the outlook that they partook in combat. That you need a separate list to name a handful over the course of a 1000 years and multiple cultures should make it clear enough how exceptional occurrence it was for a woman to have a commanding role in warfare. We can easily surmise that participation in actual fighting was equally rare.
  11. I'm sorry but what makes you think that this is a major issue for female gamers? AFAIK there have been attempts to change some questionable character models in MMO games but devs relented supposedly after protests form women themselves. And dose arguing this issue from the perspective of reality or practicability really makes sense? Most of the problematic character design assume the existence of female warriors in the first place. That alone is already questionable enough to break immersion in the all-too-common pseudo-medieval settings.
  12. Anonymous attacks Sony over PS3 hacking lawsuits Not sure how it helps the case of people they are supposedly defending.

    Libya

Similar case could be made for Castro and Cuba. There doesn't seem to be much improvement following handing down of power.

  15. Or .Altho it's more of an antithesis.
  16. But it does. Check your history if you believe otherwise. Religion has been used to great effect to get people up in arms just because the head of some church or another claimed that GOD demanded it. That may be but it's never been more instrumental than economical factors. Most people are simply all too willing to use religion to justify actions driven by avarice. As for the attack - the only thing to look for is what the local community does now. I imagine "Islam is peace" will get repeated a lot but no real action will be taken. Not unlike fighting football hooligans.
  17. Crysis 2. Man it's like the first one man only not as good man. That NPC speech pattern is the only memorable thing about it.
  18. And that's part of the problem. Fedexing or "go there and use speech" quests contributed little to my enjoyment of the game. Sometimes they could provide insight into factions and motivations but most was unremarkable had few choices and no long term consequences. As silly as some of FO3 quests were I can at least recall most of them. Many quests in NV felt like they were meant for isometric RPG were you can do them in bulk.
  19. It's a PC franchise heading to consoles. Of course it may fail expectations of old time fans.
  20. I fear we have been discussing different things all along. I don't mean that thorium has no potential behind it - it dose. But from the economical PoV it may not be enough to make it the more attractive solution.
  21. AFAIK not every fact you mention is strictly true but that is besides the point. What's really important to keep your enthusiasm in check. Just as people promising miraculous fuel production from sun/water/air there are people declaring fusion will be viable within a decade or that thorium will solve all nuclear energy problems within a fortnight. There is no real reason to believe one group over the other. Every potential solution gets it's medial minute every once in a while.
  22. That's assuming it will actually be desirable. Right now it seems unlikely you could run thorium reactors without messing with uranium. Considering the development cycles we might have access to fusion by the time thorium becomes an acceptable solution. And fusion is always 30 years into the future.
  23. So would I but since relic insists in reusing CoH engine it's unlikely to happen. Unless it goes multiplatform
  24. And the multiplayer was wrecked by infinite-resource exploits. That they were left unpatched for months after the release pretty much killed the game online.
