  1. Now that's just sad. Despite all it's problems Mafia series used to have somewhat unique identity.
  2. In case anyone remembers or cares: Open Beta is now live. Still no idea how Obsidians is involved in this. Seems like mostly a case of name-dropping.
  3. Sad but not entirely unexpected. Hopefully he will find some artistic freedom wherever he lands.
  4. It's not really that simple. The idea of what a 'job' is has changed massively since industrial revolution. Initially working hours have seen a massive increase since industrial employment was less seasonal than farm work.
  5. So a more modern revolution then? Fair enough. Otherwise you'd have to make exceptions for peasants revolt and catholic uprisings.
  6. From 1215 England certainty had plenty of violent rebellions and even one successful revolution. And I could argue that even from 1801 UK social order is more a case of good colonial safety valve rather than any achievement of political system.
  7. Kerbal Space Program just launched after 2 years of early access.
  8. Arguing that technology is imperfect doesn't help your point. Eventually we will get to a point when some sort of c-section birth will be possible for MtF transsexuals.
  9. Interesting concept - but I have one question: How do you imagine realistic combat given a typical fantasy setting? Most RPG games will have you fighting different monsters all the way from common rats to dragons. Combat systems tend to be designed to ignore the most obvious combat factors like enemy numbers or relative body mass.
  10. I'm surprised it took Valve this long to implement. TF2 hats have been a thing for how long now?
  11. Positive initial reactions don't guarantee future income. HBS lost a third of it's kickstarter funding between Shadowrun Returns and Hong Kong.
  12. Unless Obsidian goes under due to other projects at least one sequel/expansion is pretty much guaranteed. The real question is how much of this audience they can keep.
  13. Larian also hinted that game sales were far less important than luring investors for the future. I imagine the same will hold true for Obsidian. The real success of PoE will be measured by what (if any) development deals Obsidian signs in the coming months.
  14. I didn't have this type of bottom in mind. There are worse jobs out there and most are even mostly-legal. But I hope your 'nothing illegal' stance doesn't go as far as no-lying in CVs and interviews?
  15. I can't speak for California but where I live fastfood is still quite a way from the bottom. And I wouldn't pay attention to any reasoning from HR. In my experience employment selections tend to be totally frivolous.
  16. Lower your work expectations to the absolute bottom-tier. Or work for free and hope you meet someone that will take pity on you. This sounds harsh but honestly without skills, experience, money or connections those may be the only options.
  17. You forgot the second charge of impiety. Turns out that ancient Athens was lacking in religious tolerance.
  18. There were people unimpressed with it from the very start. They were just drowned-out and even censored for quite a while.
  19. I never understood the problem people have with BS jobs. It's a natural consequence of economic system geared for overproduction. By all accounts the olden days of regular unemployment were far more straining.
  20. It doesn't. Most people know nothing of it and do just fine. Gaming history is only of use to a designer if he plans to milk nostalgia or take risks in their design. Most developers have absolutely no need for it.
  21. In case anyone was still interested in the current happenings: Ukraine troops retreat from key town of Debaltseve
  22. You do realize that ceasefire was made only now so to save Ukrainian army from a major encirclement? If there is anyone who can't win militarily it's Ukraine.
  23. And what would you call Ukrainian economic situation then? Last I heard they were even worse off.
  24. I think it's a dominate behavior among players. We're well conditioned that way. But that's exactly the problem. Interesting decisions have disappeared from games as they didn't fit neatly into one-dimensional alignment bar. And it's mostly due to our gaming habits since the mindless chase for rewards has long ago overrode any notions of role-play.
  25. I'm pretty sure that's just some players choosing munchkining over role-playing freedom. The real problem with all behavior-meter systems is that mixing your choices amounts to neutrality rather than bi-polar disorder.
