Well, most polls point to about a 50/50 split when it comes to public opinion, but then again it's an election year so if the politicians think it's in their benefit... you know how it goes, refer to my signature and all that. Almost all the political parties went to election with promises to not join NATO, and now that we're tested, having just two months ago declared that we won't be bullied, they're folding immediately.

The US would spend the most on military with or without NATO, it means nothing. The US deploying to Sweden if we were part of NATO would be dependent on the political will of the country, the next Trump would definetly not act. The EU's military response is as much of an assurance as is NATO's. The world is the same as it has been in 2014, the only thing that has really changed is the view of Russian military competency for anyone that has been following the war, and some shock at the inhumanity of Russians, and astonishment that any Ukrainian can walk like a normal human being with balls that size. List of treaties unsigned or unratified by the United States - Wikipedia The only country in the world that hasn't ratified the Convention of Childrens Rights... So what you're saying is that Sweden should defund the US? I like it, and I wholeheartedly agree. Edit; Also they don't recognize the ICC.

The exact same promise already exists among EU countries, and each NATO country decides for itself how it would help Sweden incase of invasion, no one is obligated to send boots on the ground. But if we are in NATO we definetly become a target for strikes, even more so if we were to have nukes. We're not neutral, we're unaligned, we are definetly taking stances left and right, and it's the only position that we actually can afford. Not to mention that we would be able to continue to be a mediator with other countries like we have been historically. If we are to have any kind of alliance it should be a Nordic one, among equals.

Oh, not internationally, but locally. There are no dissenting opinions being put forward in a serious manner, but alot of mainstream and social media are trying to make a rushed decision here. The fact that the vast majority of people in Sweden vote for political parties that have been firmly anti-NATO has been changing their tune, despite the populace actually voting them in. At the very least we need to have an informed vote about it, similar to joining the EU, but it's hard for people to build informed opinions if nay-sayers are actively being screamed down. I really look forward to having the US decide wether or not Sweden can leave NATO if joining means that the voters flock to an Anti-NATO option, and I'm really looking forward to joining such bastions of democracy like Hungary, Albania and Turkey. Professor Linus Hagström was very critical of joining NATO back in 2015, still is, and he was raked for it.

I don't know how the education works over there, but here you had two different ways to start the road to become one, Natural Sciences programme and Electrical worker programme, we had exactly 0 female students in the electrical worker programme, but there were quite a few girls that went the Natural Science route and later became EE's.

We're not melancholy really, but yeah, when it's pitch black outside at 4pm and you and your friends want to do something, you get creative, so we do indoor stuff like RPG's, music and videogames. This is also helped by the fact that we used to invest alot of money in schools to encourage youths to develop their musical interests (For instance, you could borrow an instrument for up to a year, for free), we went heavy into computerization in the 90's with subsidising home pc's and (then)state owned Telia expanded ADSL capabilities heavilly. You become well motivated to build safe cars when the likelyhood of traffic accidents are high. Swedish cars before recently didn't have the ability to completely turn off the lights on the car, to avoid accidentally leaving them off in twilight. Elk are good at hiding in darkness, collide with one and it tends to land on the cars A-post and roof, so you build sturdy roofs, collisions are pretty common due to slippery road conditions aswell. If you're not interested in nerd stuff like music and videogames, you can always drink, **** and party. Edit; Should also say that I like winter and autumn best, and despise spring and summer, I really dislike when it's warm, so I'm atypical.

First, it's not really an actual thing, you should note the part of the text that says it's from a satirical book from the 30's. That said, it does follow our culture a bit that is all, if anything you're taught that you are special and valuable in school. We don't like braggarts really.
