Zombies and Cthulhu? :sigh: Otherwise, an interesting update. I like the classes, they are familiar and also have some interesting twists. Wizard's tomes sound great, it seems like a compromise towards that 'Vancian' system everybody is talking about. I am more interested in the rogue class though. Bows and rapiers are great, but I also noticed that rogues can use clubs. Why? Does it mean that I will be able to wack people in the head and render them unconscious? Would be awesome.

I made a new version of the World Map
Lysen replied to Xarek's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It looks almost like in-game map, good job. -
I've played Divine Divinity and even Divinity: Ego Draconis. The first was a good game with some interesting ideas, the second... well, it was disappointing to say the least.

We all played and loved* classic Infinity Engine games: Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series and Planescape: Torment which really stands out not only because its name. It is good to know that Obsidian use them as an inspiration. But there also a lot of other great RPGs, like Arcanum, Fallout series or even some newer games like Fallout: New Vegas or Drakensang 2 (it is very different than the games mentioned above, yet good nonetheless). I want especially to talk about Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, because I started playing it recently after a few unsuccessful attempts and really enjoy it. Playing Bloodlines today is hard to describe, it is like you were looking for something in the cellar, and suddenly you see a dusty old bottle that you never noticed before. It doesn't look much, but when you open it, you will find inside the best wine that you ever tasted. I didn't finished it yet, the others say that the last part of the game suck, but until now (I just arrived at Hollywood) it was perfect. The atmosphere, the music, the quest design, the characters - I love everything. The only thing that was quite dissappointing was level design in some areas, because trying to sneak down the well-lit corridor with security cameras or a parking full of thugs isn't very fun if there are no alternate ways (and I didn't find them). Deus Ex did it much better. But overall, Bloodlines is one of the greates RPGs ever made, and though it is very different that IE games, it could serve as a source of inspiration for Project: Eternity. * Some hard-line Codexers may disagree.

Yes, Tolkien stated repeatedly that his elves have little or nothing in common with the elves of European folklore and literature, and he hated Shakespeare especially for his depiction of elves. Tolkien choosed the word "elves" as a translation of Quendi (his original creation), and later regretted it. Originally he called them... gnomes.

Drows in this game ?
Lysen replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Drows are everythere, even in Arcanum. I don't want to see them in PE though. -
Combat and damage.
Lysen replied to jimcrowley's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am fine with that. PE isn't a hack&slash game where you can cut off limbs like in Dead Space. Fallout also did that, yes, but it was turn-based, and PE will be real time with pause. I don't like the idea of injuries either (probably because it reminds me about Dragon Age). -
Don't like cooldowns, don't like Vancian system either. Mana pool is better. I like how it was handled in Bloodlines, where you have to feed in order to replenish your "mana".

A dog companion?

Worthless Mutt was actually the most useful companion in Arcanum. He rocked. -
A dog companion?
Lysen replied to bonarbill's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am not against dog companion, but if it will be added, then make him more useful so I can order him to fetch things, distract enemies or don't attack them at all and just warn me about their presence. Maybe he could have some interesting history like Dogmeat in Fallout and you are going to find who kill his former master. -

Some crazy spells with interesting history like in the Unbroken Circle of Zerthimon. Missile of Patience was my favourite.- 42 replies

I agree, ego-stroking doesn't feel right when overdone. Think about Kreia in KOTOR2 when she says that all she did was only because of you. It was just sick. Poor Exile didn't have much luck with women, they were so obsessed with him that they wanted to kill him lol. I liked companions in New Vegas much better, they weren't obsessed with the player and had goals of their own. Cadegund? Race, faction, character class, or the artist's last name? The artist's name is Polina Hristova http://www.polinadesign.com/

Permanent death means that the player can actually fail, that there is no hand-holding. It isn't fun to play a game where you cannot fail.

Sewers and Swamps
Lysen replied to Gorth's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sewers are must have, especially for a rogue character. I loved how you were able to use them as an alternate route through the city in Baldur's Gate when the cops were looking for you. More of that stuff please! -
Mr. Sawyer just scared a hell out of me. The difficulty should be its own reward.

In-Game Tutorial
Lysen replied to molarBear's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It depends on how it is done. In-game tutorial could be horrible, like in Fallout 3 for example, especially when it is totally unskippable. On the other hand, think about VTM: Bloodlines. Damn, I used to replay the tutorial because I wanted to listen to Jack's voice and his cracky jokes. "The Sabbath, eh, well... They are mostly just mindless bloodthirsty ****, that's what you need to know right now".
