  1. My mother (who is 65) loved it. Basically that means she's cooler than you.
  2. How about Life Is Strange for grandma? From what I've seen you basically walk around and talk to people in that game and the story is what keeps people interested.
  3. An interesting article/interview about ELEX, the new RPG from Piranha Bytes is up over at WCCFtech. http://wccftech.com/piranha-bytes-improved-polish-elex/ They talk about how they've tried to polish this game a bit more to reduce the number of bugs (riiight) and that the game world is around 1.5 that of Gothic 3! This is great news for me who loves giant game worlds. Gothic 3 was massive. Bruce will be happy to hear there are romances now.. It launches on October 17. I'm quite looking forward to this game.
  4. I think I may have figured out a way to beat that stupid act 5 end boss in Path of Exile. It might have something to do with over leveling the **** out of my char before even trying again.. It's a level 45 area. My character is level 59 right now. I will still get my butt kicked. Yeah, difficulty balancing is not Grinding Gears strongest side. If I can get past Kitava (the boss' name) I know I'll have a ton of much easier zones to look forward to.
  5. I bought my last laptop in 2009. After 8 years it couldn't charge more than 20-30% and it would run out in like 10-15 minutes. I looked up what a new battery would cost. 1500 SEK (~188 USD). Sure, it's cheaper than an entirely new laptop, but.. who the hell would spend that much on an 8 year old computer? I bought a new laptop for 800 USD instead. It's the silver one to the right. It weighs 1 kg, has around 11-12 hours of battery time, 12.5 inch 1080p IPS screen, full metal body, Core i5-7Y54, 8 GB 1866MHz RAM, 256 GB Samsung SSD, quick charger (30-40 minutes for 50% charge) and AKG speakers (surprisingly good for such a small device). It's perfect for my needs (bedroom/travel laptop for surfing and watching the occasional movie). It's called the Xiaomi Air 12. Only disadvantage so far was the Win 10 Home version in Chinese. I bought a cheap Win 10 Pro license, got the drivers from Xiaomi's forums and did a complete reinstall. Worked perfectly.
  6. I keep coming back to Path of Exile. I play HC, die, get off it for two weeks and then my stupid brain thinks, "I was probably sloppy and that's why I died". Two days later I die again and the cycle repeats. It's a good game though!
  7. http://wccftech.com/review/pillars-of-eternity-complete-edition-crpg/ Wccftech really likes the PS4 version too. Sounds great, actually!
  8. Deadly Premonition is Twin Peaks in video game form. I couldn't handle the gameplay, though. I'm tempted to actually just watch a let's play. The mood was spot on. Same here. The game was too scary and too.. stiff? I'm not sure what to call it, but everything from the movement of your character to the way cars handle was so off-putting that I just couldn't play it. Interesting atmosphere and game world though.
  9. Ghost Recon: Wildlands I pressed the button.
  10. I bought Ghost Recon: Wildlands in a Eurogamer (!) sale and I've been playing that on and off. This game is damn good! I have no idea why so many reviewers gave it middling scores. It looks fantastic, you can play through everything in co-op, the world is gigantic (and sooo well made) and the gameplay reasonably varied and fun. Also, it's so ridiculously polished. Just how menus look and behave, how easy it is to transport yourself and your tram everywhere, how snazzy the weapon modifications look, how the physics affect almost everything (from explosions to fall damage to destructible environments). Everything seems to have an extra layer of thought put into them. I was wandering through the wilderness, far away from anything, when I found a small path. It wasn't even on the map, but it went up to a vertical cliffside and disappeared into the rock. I got curious and followed the path, and it turned out someone had carved a very realistic looking passage through the cliff so the path could spindle its way up to the top of the cliff. I was so impressed! This must be one of the biggest games ever made and still.. someone took the time to create that little non-mapped path and made it look realistic and cool in the middle of nowhere. I loved that.
  11. I bought an OLED TV and now I want an OLED computer screen.
  12. AMD Threadripper 1950X review: Better than Intel in almost every way https://arstechnica.co.uk/gadgets/2017/08/amd-threadripper-review-1950x-1920x/
  13. Crap, I died.
  14. So, the full game (all ten acts) of Path of Exile released yesterday. I've been playing pretty much non-stop since then and I've reached the end of act seven. The last two or three acts have been a mixture of new levels and old levels redesigned with your previous actions in mind. Where you first encountered (for example) a huge bear, you will now encounter a huge undead bear, controlled by a necromancer. Where you first fought bandits, you're not fighting skeletons and so on. The things you killed in the first acts around come back in different forms later in the game. I love it. But the game is hard. I'm up to level 62 in hardcore now and it feels like every battle will be my last. I've been sooo close to dying a hundred times now. I just know my time is up. There are achievements for reaching level 60, 70, 80 and 90 in hardcore. I will probably never get the one for 70 even.
  15. I'm playing Path of Exile again. In five days they're releasing new content that takes the existing 4 chapters to 10! That will be fun to explore. Unfortunately I'm playing a hardcore character so I'll probably not survive for five days though..
  16. Champions of Krynn.. I finished that in 1990. I think I still have the first two entries of that trilogy in their Gold boxes. The third was never released for my Commodore 64, annoyingly enough.
  17. Just beware if you decide to go for the X299. Only a few of the Intel CPU's available for that platform are actually made for it, ie. some of them are just rebranded i7's.
  18. What game has good combat according to you?
  19. Since I'm pretty hyped about Elex (understatement of 2017 right there), here's some stupid videos to explain to you heathens why Gothic is the best game ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSc-WRl-0pM Also, I'm waiting to replay Gothic when this mod finishes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUsK1FR041E Gothic is the only game in the series I have trouble replaying. Not only because it crashes almost as frequently as The Elder Scrolls: Arena, but because of the unorthodox controls. Maybe the mod will modernize them? Who knows, I don't speak Nazi (I kid, I kid, I drive an Audi, please don't gas me)
  20. I came to post that same 4k video of Elex that Katphood already posted, but from another source (http://wccftech.com/elex-4k60fps-footage-e3-2017/) I am so getting that. Classic Piranha Bytes (although I did not see any hilarious animations..).
  21. So you want to be able to buy crack, meth, speed, heroin etc. in any store? Anything else is government nannyism?
  22. Oohh, thanks for the tip! Loved the first Watch Dogs but didn't want to pay 60€ for the sequel..
  23. Welp, that's my interest in gaming resurrected! http://wccftech.com/metro-exodus-massive-replayability/ Omg, it's almost like a Stalker reborn!
  24. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWFzWRoVNnE I kind of agree with Linus here. Intel are panicking.
  25. See, this is what surprised me about Fallout 4. I hated it when I first played it, thought it was stupid and simplified and the story (and writing) couldn't hold my interest. But then I noticed I've logged more hours in Fallout 4 than I've done in Fallout: New Vegas (which is one of the best games I've ever played).. and I also noticed that Fallout 4 is a game I can go back to just to fool around in, while Fallout: New Vegas feels finished to me. It's weird like that. I'm guessing it's a bad RPG, a bad Fallout (in my opinion), but a good game.
