    X3... Xmen

It's been getting pretty decent reviews in Sweden so far. When I heard they changed director for X-men 3, I didn't want to see it, but now I might actually see it anyhow. Oh, and it's awesome that Kelsey Grammer plays Beast
  3. I don't get the argument. You're saying CRPG's is a waste of time? I thought it was common knowledge that ALL games (regardless of genre) are a waste of time? So where's the argument?
  4. I sent my review copy of Dreamfall to my mom a few days ago. Last night she called me and was upset about how much Dreamfall sucked. She's a pure adventure gamer and her favourite game ever is The Longest journey.. I thought that said a lot about the new game. It's too easy, it's too short, it has really crappy fighting/sneaking sequences and the 3D doesn't add anything to the game except camera annoyances. Combine that with badly ported Xbox controls and you've got a fine mess.
  5. Oops. Hassat Hunterowned!
  6. You do realize that this thread is about recommending adventure games for someone who asked for it, and not about arguing if a game is good or not? I'm not really interested in your opinions about the game, and I will not "unrecommend" it just because your taste differs from mine. About the puzzles that are considered obsolete in modern games: mazes and pixel hunting. I don't remember specifics (long time since I played them both) so look up a walkthrough on the net and you'll find out what I mean.
  7. Who said anything about the best? Escape from Monkey Island is the only part of the series that's easily accessible (to find and play on modern computers). Also, most people who keep recommending Secret of Monkey Island are too young to even have played it but are riding on the bandwagon because it makes them look old school. Monkey Island 1 was funny and probably good for its time, but it has aged horribly. Both Monkey Island 1&2 suffer from really stupid puzzles and such, that would be called nuisances in modern games. Just because the games are called classics doesn't make them great games anymore. I agree that Curse of Monkey Island is fantastic though, but I haven't seen it anywhere in probably ten years. Probably very hard to find, not sure if it runs under Windows XP.
  8. Beneath A Steel Sky is good. So are the Monkey Island games, especially Escape From Monkey Island.
  9. Which one is the Temple level..? I've finished Far Cry (a long time ago) and the only tough level I remember was the one with the sinking boat and the attack helicopter.
  10. Die at zero hitpoints. Although I quite liked the system in Wasteland where you were injured for a while and, if untreated, you went from injured, to seriously injured to critically injured to mortally injured to death. Permanent death. Kind of like the D&D, I guess, but the D&D always felt.. unnatural to me. Too strict. And I hate resurrection!
  11. And then, to pay for it all, you just have to start pooping money. Easy!
  12. Geforce 4600Ti 128 MB Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB Geforce 7800 GS 258 MB I also own a 3DFx Voodoo 5500 64 MB for nostalgic reasons. The best card I've had was the 9800 Pro. It was only a few months ago that I upgraded to thew 7800 GS and I've never had as many problems with a video card as I've had with this one. Showing movies is a nightmare, graphical glitches in new games (Tombraider: Legend being the worst!) and the GPU fan sounds like a vacuum cleaner when it reaches top speed. Not to mention that I can't seem to get over the blurry picture (compared to the 9800 Pro). Don't get me wrong, I love the performance of it, but I will probably switch back to ATI in a few months.
  13. Not quite true. There is a function called ICT built into the Blu-Ray standard, that is able to down convert the audio/video if it is passing through an un-encrypted port, but most movie companies has opted not to make use of that function. If it is used, the rules state that it has to be clearly visible on the package that the movie uses the ICT function. Also, I read that the reason why the Blu-Ray players are so expensive is that it takes quite some computational power to decode all the data from the disc. That should be no problem for the Playstation 3 as the CELL is perfectly capable of decoding the data in real time and then some. Not having to include any dedicated decoding hardware might mean that the Playstation 3 gets a faster Blu-Ray player than expected. The article I read mentioned the possibility of a 4x Blu-Ray player!

    Vote LORDI!

Congratulations, finns! You suck at hockey, but you rule the latex monster club! )
  15. I still think Wasteland was what made "learn-by-doing" popular. Wayyy before Morrowind or even Daggerfall or Arena.
  16. $20?? I paid $37 for mine (a long time ago)! I got ripped off
  17. Story that mattered: Ultima IV Training-by-using levelling system: Wasteland (well, one of the first)
  18. I don't need to ride anything, I have enough big things between my legs. Worst. Joke. Ever.
  19. http://btmod.beider.org/ This is the interface mod I use. Very good. I also use Natural Environments by Max Tael, especially the water mod is good. Then there are some HUGE mods I use for better looking distant textures and landscapes (LOD Normal Map replacement for Oblivion and Landscape LOD replacement textures for Oblivion).
  20. Where did you come up with your numbers? A 12x DVD's minimum speed is (theoretically) 0x! A 12x DVD only reaches 12x reading speed during the last few seconds of the disk (the outer edges), while it is considerably slower on the inner parts of the disk. A Blu-Ray keeps constant speed throughout the entire surface of the disc. So while a 12x DVD should be a lot faster than a 2x Blu-Ray on paper, in reality that's often not the case. Turtoise-Hare syndrome. The reason I believe the Playstation 3 will have a 2x Blu-Ray is because anything faster would be insanely pricey, but anything less would mean the Playstation 3 wouldn't be able to play Blu-Ray movies (which demand 2x Blu-Ray), something which Sony has stated it would. Sony has been mandating it? I must have missed this. Any links? When the Playstation 2 was released, some of the first games for it came out on CD even though the system supported DVD, probably for cost reasons. I just assumed the same thing would happen with the Playstation 3, as the first Blu-Ray discs will be expensive and the first games are usually not in need of that much extra storage space. Procedural techniques and compression can only take you so far though, as there's a real, physical limit on the DVD (around 9 GB). As games creep upward to resolutions of 1920x1080 (1080p) they will eventually need more space than that. High definition graphics/sounds (and FMV movies) are going to eat up those 9 GB pretty fast. What do you mean by "game engines have become more stream line"? Game engines have become a LOT more resource hungry over the years. From only having to pump out 2D-sprites in 320x200 to pumping out 2048x2048 textures in full 3D in 1920x1080 resolutions, has put a huge pressure on data transfer rates and storage capacity. This will only get worse/more demanding (or better, depending on which way you're looking at it) in the future. I really don't understand what you mean by "more stream line".
  21. My pillow is stuffed with dimes
  22. So.. girls who aren't especially pretty and aren't anything special in competitive gaming.. gather under the name Fragdolls and get famous..? Geez, I have more respect for a prostitute on the street.
  23. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html Link to the Quicktime Standalone player.
  24. Any links to back up this claim, perhaps?
  25. I know. But I am seeing a psychiatrist about it!
