Are they even listening to our feedback?
Monte Carlo replied to ctn2003's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Nope. Wrong. I was in the thread where Josh hedged his bets over it - in fact he responded directly to me on the issue. It was slid in quite sneakily without fanfare, hence the passion on the subject. I could accuse the likes of you as a shill - you seem eager to shoot down anyone who isn't totally on board with every wacky Sawyerism. But I shan't as (a) it would be rude and (b) I've agreed with you on lots of things in the past. Nonetheless, this is nothing like the Romance issue. Nothing at all. This actually means something, for starters. Edit - typo. -

This game is like promising the new Expendables but delivering a movie about a bearded man with slicked-back hair talking about his feelings in a yurt. -

Yeah it was a genius idea to make a guy who didn't like the main IE games the design lead on their 'spiritual successor.' -
Pretty disappointed, this launches in December?
Monte Carlo replied to khermann's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Sometimes the truth hurts, and it isn't like the dude hasn't paid for the privilege of having a moan. I too am having significant WTF moments about a boatload of design decisions. And the wailing chorus of shills trying to shut up doubters won't change that. -
Yes, doom-mongers. I share some of your pain, and ride in the vanguard when I have facts. This, OTOH, was against the rules of doom-mongering and unfair to the Obsidian developers.

Josh Sawyer visually explains Attack & Recovery
Monte Carlo replied to TrueMenace's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Although it's pretty Sawyer-esque to publish important data on twitter rather than on the Backer's Forum I know he has little time for us, but the contempt is palpable.- 87 replies

The Great Beta Backer Battle Tactics Thread
Monte Carlo replied to swordofthesith's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
^ Sadly I find myself in the same position as Gfted. The lack of ability signals, visual or otherwise, is screwing up combat for me. -
Josh Sawyer visually explains Attack & Recovery
Monte Carlo replied to TrueMenace's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
^ I suppose it's quasi-realistic, seeing as 2H swords were quite fast. It also encourages interesting unarmoured beserker-mit-zweihander builds.- 87 replies

Do you want experience from combat?
Monte Carlo replied to DnaCowboy's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yep, Sawyer could easily have initiated an encounter-level system where you got no XP for killing low-level trash mobs, encouraging you not to waste your time on them via sneaking or dialogue (etc). But he didn't. -
Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition Announced

Bruce did you read the description of the game? It was meant to be a straightforward Dungeon-Crawler. Nothing more and nothing less. -
Replayability and PoE - a reality check
Monte Carlo replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I agree. MotB pretty much nails it, as does FO:NV. -
Replayability and PoE - a reality check
Monte Carlo replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yep, storytyme versus gameplay is the eternal dilemma. Maybe you can have both equally good (in fact I know you can) but let's not pretend one is more important than the other. Storytyme without compelling gameplay in a CRPG means you're left with a suboptimal platform for a.... book. As currently constituted (i.e. a Beta) PoE (for me) is lacking gameplay in a big way. This is underpinned by core mechanics, not bugs. If I knew it was going to be like this I wouldn't have backed it. Nonetheless, it's early days, maybe it will polish up nicely. It's too late not to be a little optimistic. -

Reason why Diablo 3 pissed me off. The REAL reason.
Monte Carlo replied to ktchong's topic in Computer and Console
Agreed, but NuDiablo is shiny fun. FUN. I think games developers made that word illegal a few trade-shows ago. They need the word branded on their foreheads. -
Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition Announced

I'll go further. I accuse PS:T of high-minded elitism, of contempt to the player, from the moment you boot it up. It's an arrogant in-joke: create a fighter in good faith and give TNO fighter stats. Mwuahahaha (go the designers). You are hobbled. Screwed. Unable to progress. It's a joke predicated on some sort of insider knowledge of the setting and the design goals. When you have Obz devs like MCA shaking their heads at obtuse design and banging on about how unfair it is to have bad builds that baffle the player, they need look no further than Planescape: Torment. Bad design permeates the piece like body odour. -
Ha ha ha, Bio flips the PC master race the bird. Again. Why Bio... WHY?

It's Black Isle Studios, Bester. Now, by and large, Obz. Although I wonder if it's still Interplay property? -
Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition Announced
Monte Carlo replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
So you are going to support and pay 20$ for a slamdunk made by people who are not even the original developers? They no longer have that flimsy "Two of us worked at Bioware at one point guise!" excuse for IWD. Here they just ported the previous EE changes, some mods and content from previous BGs (which will probably wreck the game). But at least you will get that STORY MODE difficulty so you can enjoy the meat of this game eh? Yes, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I would like to say I'm sorry how I spend my money offends you, but I won't because I'd be lying. -
