  1. Achievements... Pfft... Completely useless fluff.
  2. You'd figure that in a setting where you and I can take a class or profession where we can use magic, then just about anyone in the world could too. Developing technology is a long arduous and costly endeavor and would not be taken on by the guy on the street any more than learning magic. If magic exists and guns don't it is highly unlikely that guns will evolve. You could probably make common tools and all other weapons a logical error by that argument - "if you have magic, why bother" - too. Anyways, the KS pitchvideo states that magic is not rare, but it is not like everyone in the universe uses it either. And Sawyer posted somewhere (can't remember if it was here or elsewhere, at the moment) that guns exist for a certain purpose -- and knowing Obsidians knack for detail, I'm quite sure they'll be explained in a way that is logical to the setting (whether people agree with it or not).
  3. But can everyone do magic that are in need of such power?
  4. You'd be surprised what people can't do even with the simple form of assault rifles these days, let alone a wheellock. In my time as an NCO I saw some real **** ups who'd, if the situation was real, would've not only killed themselves but also a bunch of their team mates. And if it is a recent tech in the setting - like I have a recollection of it being mentioned to be - most of the inhabitants may never even have seen such a thing. It is very unlikely people'd immediately know exactly how to use such tech (knowing that it is not just putting a clip in, ****ing, and firing away).
  5. I don't tend to play multiplayer games - especially not RPG's - so "No" is what I voted.
  6. I wish I could... Seems like no matter where you go these days regarding RPG's, there's always a crowd yelling out for either LBGT, or romances, or a mix of those -- I'm just waiting when the "I wanto build a house, raise a family, farm some land and sell my crops in a shop I put up" -crowd finds its way here.
  7. Would you describe some of those clunky mechanics and tedious gameplay elements and the things you'd replace them with?
  8. Yes, I do - now that they are confirmed in. Guns and hints towards other technology add a lot of variety and flavor the game (both, its world and combat options) -- plus, I am really tired of the tried and true stock fantasy where the world has always been and will always be stuck on this strange medieval bubble where nothing goes forward but time.
  9. Indeed. I say yes for guns and other contraptions that hint towards progression of the world (not to go overboard, though). They add a lot of variety and flavor to the setting and how the combat can be played out - if done right.
  10. TB combat option would net more money from me - not as a tacked on feature, though, but seriously considered and its possibilities explored to make sure it works -- if it is completely out of scope, or in serious danger of simply feeling like **** then just fugheddaboudit, I can live without (but I would "pay" for a properly made option).
  11. Josh the man! With sweet, sweet news. Seriously considering upping my pledge.
  12. I'm not overly fond of this take care of your metabolism stuff. It mostly just comes down to annoying busywork that is either too easy or too frustrating to handle. If there were to be such things, I would tie 'em up to specific locational conditions, like thirst-meter in desert areas, cold-meter in highly cold areas, etc and maybe even have some equipement related bonuses and deficiances, but I would give a pass on a general "needs".
  13. What about the billions who think it's simply waste of time and money with a project this small?
  14. Where's the "Just say no!" option in the poll?
  15. I'd also like different points of view - like NV - instead of a set villain. It makes the game much more interesting and involving experience.
  16. Please, none of this romance mumbo jumbo. Stuff like that requires a lot of focus to work well, and mostly only works if it is at least a semi-central part of the main story, and rarely even then. And the Bioware method of surrounding oneself with bisexual and sometimes zoophiliac **** buddies whom one then needs to bribe and sweet talk to spread their buttocks is especially awful in its awkwardness. Please do not waste time and money on matters like this that are almost certainly bound to fail horribly. /That's about all I have to say about the subject, please continue...
  17. The obvious stretchgoal(s) is more content across the board (quests, quest solution options, NPC's, locations, ways of interacting with the world, enemies, combat options, skills, abilities, etc). I would want a TB option as one (would even increase my pledge for it - despite the possibility of it not being 100% optimal), but I certainly understand if it doesn't happen. Aside from those, I can't really think of anything specific but a toolkit, but that's not of my concern as I do not tend to use mods anyway.
  18. Well, I agree to disagree. My turn-based cravings will be hopefully be satisfied with the upcoming Wasteland 2, Divinity: Original Sin and Chaos Chronicles; I'd rather Etenity's RTwP is done right. Possible better than anything that came before. And I also fear you're being idealistic yourself, but I do understand that the idea of mixed combat systems is a interesting concept. Not one I'd have the guts to design, though. Yeah, I'm looking forward to those titles too. And I admit I might have a certain amount of that idealism. But I do think having hopes for best ever RtWP isn't far off that either. Anyways, I'm generally fine with what they've announced - I'd call the lack of TB a mild nuisance at best, something I can well live with but a nuisance nonetheless as I've never really been a fan of RtWP. Can't hurt thinking about could potentially be done.
  19. I'd prefer a system similiar to SPECIAL, as I find that kind of system more rewarding to play with.
  20. This comes up a lot. I agree with what you said before this (and even with that statement when it comes to Arcanum itself), and I can make do without TB despite my preferences; but is Arcanum really the pinnacle of what could be done with this context? Not but that's not the point. The point is that Arcanum, and Troika itself, are a Greek Tragedy about trying to make a RPG larger than you can - developer idealism if you will. Yes, I acknowledge that. And I wouldn't want them to get greedy with features at the expense of other features. But I do also think the potential of whether or not it could be done in a satisfactory manner should be explored. They're aware of what not to do when there are no conditions to do it; but I think they also have the knowhow to do it right if the conditions and their own willingess to attempt allow for it.
  21. This comes up a lot. I agree with what you said before this (and even with that statement when it comes to Arcanum itself), and I can make do without TB despite my preferences; but is Arcanum really the pinnacle of what could be done with this context? I think that even if it ends up not being implemented due to what ever reasons, the possibilities and potential should at least be explored with the teachings of the past and knowhow of today before dismissing it because Arcanum failed at it 12 years ago.
  22. I wouldn't say no to a backdrop of some technological innovations - like guns - subtly making their existense known (I'm quite frankly a bit bored with these fantasy settings that have thousands of years of perfectly stagnant forever mediaval history and future). It would add a nice flavor the gameworld. And if the concept pic is anything to go by, there will be something like that - which is good.
