  1. Uh. Uh. Uh. Exactly what I was expecting (hoping) from the previous screenshot. I won't write a constructive reply, but what a "demo"! How can a video make me think that the future years will be fun? I am thinking about some "weird hippie RPG nerd's saying". Hum. Weird hippie RPG nerd? I like the idea!
  2. Sure, giving interviews, having some music, work-in-progress screenshots and videos, uservoice fora, are agressive mass marketing. They had to give some doritos to journalists, or to pay for tweets. Some writers for a story-telling game in pre-production phase? Nonsense. They are juste names for fanboys. Indeed. And there are so many games about philosophical themes. Why another one? Look at their KS page! There is only one sentence: "give us money because it's Torment." What a shame. Greed. Absolutely. [Troll off] Yes, there are some 'bad' points for the Torment KS campaign: - running a KS campaign before WL2's release - maybe, the countdown show was a bit impersonal, at least compared to the PE's one I thought that interviews during the countdown was a better explanation about "Who are these people? Why do they seem so popular, and why do people pledge after reading they are involved in the project?". KS for pre-production campaign has been already discussed the whole month. There are pros and cons. I understand your point. But greed? Really? WL2's video may have disappointed you, but beta is not available yet. Can we judge the game with it, only? Maybe it will be a good game or a bad game, but we don't know yet. I have faith in both projects. Because from what I see, I am confident that Obsidian and InXile will give good games. Yes, I have to admit that I am more confident for PE, because there are some 30 more updates now. But I am not trustless about Torment. Just wait and see.
  3. Haha I was sure that the Cliffs would be "screened"! Really love this one! Now I want to go to Jacurutu and a Lim Lim Nanos-from-other-dimensions killer and it would be perfect!
  4. Aaaargggh I didn't know that video has been on YT... Now I will have to wait like others The screenshot is fine for me. It fits the idea I had about The Bloom. Maybe InXile should have tried to make a screenshot from the Sagus Cliff instead, to please people unfamiliar with dark organic locations. But, as you said, it's Torment, indeed, and since the first artwork we have seen is from the Bloom, I understand they chose this location for their first screenshot. I don't know if you have noticed it, but InXile has finally updated their artwork's page, with the Oasis: https://torment.inxile-entertainment.com/media I would love to have this Oasis in game! I fear that the project could not reach further stretchgoals to include it
  5. Really impressive! I did not play Darklands But I really like the design. Waiting for 2014 will be so painful...
  6. Easter eggs and in-jokes are fine for me too. But I do not really want to have connections between these two universes because of two things: - I would like that the two different teams working on these games (even if Chris Avellone would work on both) explore different pathways, different stories, expand creativity all along. It could extend with more games from each IP, novellas... And fans could help after playing these games: look at youtube video about music, or think about mods (even if Torment would not have a mod tool to modify the story)... Or why not fans trying to write something about each universe? I certainly will (even if I am not a professional writer or novelist), like I did for the early MMOs I played back in the days. - TToN is based on the Numenera setting, and I remember Feargus saying some months ago, that he would be happy to make board games or Pen and Paper roleplaying games. Some video games had supplements or entire new PnP games, like Dragon Age, Diablo II, Myth... I would be very happy too if PE would have a PnP version, and if it would allow PC and GM to explore the PE's universe. Same thing for Numenera and the Ninth World and the Bloom... Have a PnP campaign mixing these universes would fun, I agree, and as a GM, I would be tempted to. But two universes, two times more of creatitivy!
  7. I don't really understand such scores as 10/10 or 5/5. It is like "the best we could have". Doesn't it seem to claim "do exactly the same game and do not try anything else, and you will have a 10/10, because it is perfect"? Perfection does not exist, and even if it is a purpose, it would not have to be reached, because it would have been the end of creativity, and diversity. Giving such scores are a bit insane, I think.
  8. Am I the only one who plays High morale elves (Hunters, Druids, Dryads, Black Unicorn and eventually Werewolves elves)? As Colin McComb said, Elves are awesome!
  9. I think it is Mystaria: The Realms of Lore on Sega Saturn (1996), also known as Blazing Heroes in some countries. A nice Turn-based tactical RPG, with not-so-nice 2D graphics and 3D environnement graphics, but I liked it a lot, it was very addictive and had much freedom compared to other japanese tactical RPG at that time. I liked so much, that I decided to give RPG a try, so I played Fallout, and it was the beginning of lots of stories.
  10. Of course, I know. I did not want to precise all elements in the ending I obtained, and did not want to spoil to people, who have not already finished the game, but are interested by the news. Sure that a little patch could be done to make this happen. So, even if CDProjekt Red is not a big AAA publisher, but considering The Witcher series are now AAA games, all they do against DRM is meaningless? Considering Bethesda, I already said that. Any AAA publishers any time soon? Look at some AAA publishers like Square-Enix: new browser games, new mobile games. They have already turned into this new gaming model, of course they are using their home-made engines. I don't think AAA publishers will stay outside this model for a very long time. Honestly, I do not consider Unity as a browser/tablet-oriented. Again, I might be wrong. But when I see Kickstarter's big projects using Unity, I do not see many of them, made only for browser/tablet (or mainly). But most of them PC/Mac multiplatform. I didn't say that AAA publishers would have to use Unity, but a multiplatform engine like Unity. Certainly home-made.
  11. @ Aoyagi Sorry for my mistake about Cloud gaming, and thanks for pointing that out I understand that the dev have no choice concerning this (and right, about the dev/publisher ), I have just a little hope that Obsidian could discuss it with Bethesda, so it could change! I do not want to go to the extreme situation that you point about Origin. I know that the Workshop is a nice idea, but I like better the Unity idea (yes, it is a bit early to say that), because from what I understand (I might be wrong) a mod could be applied on a game using Unity, whatever is the platform used by the gamers. That would be very interesting for PE, for example, no matter OS which uses a modder, all the community could enjoy his mod. And since Fallout games are multiplaform, with a model like Unity, console gamers could enjoy PC mods, and vice versa (even if it would be difficult for a single modder to mod a console game :D ), not only Steam users. Obviously, Bethesda will keep their engine, so we already know the answer. But may I dream? ;-)
  12. I do not really know what to think. First, I consider that are great news, because I really enjoyed New Vegas, and I am a bit curious what would happen after this story, especially if we can import saves from New Vegas (I really loved the "true neutral" ending I got). But, I have to admit that I am a bit afraid of what could happen, considering the video game. Let me explain: I dislike Steam and its DRM system even if it will go under Unix systems. I know it is not a big problem for some people, and it should be a better system to get updates and fixes, but I do not want to manage a game account (i dislike cloud gaming in fact). Do not get me wrong: I always buy big boxes/collectors as I did for the NWN2 LG/CE editions, the FNV big box and even the Bethesda's F3 lunch box. I am not afraid to pay a little more expensive version of the game to have something I can hold in my hands (no jokes please!) or to help the development as I did for PE. Some people want to have a cloud gaming account? I do not want to prevent them to have it. But I was really disappointed to see that I had to create a steam account to play FNV. I know F3 had Games for Windows Live DRM, and Skyrim now uses Steam too, so I think that a new Fallout game will. Now I am a new Linux user, I am stuck, since Linux compatibilty is not a priority for Bethesda games. Maybe Steam Linux will give the opportunity to have new Fallout games on this OS, but again, I am stuck. It is not a Steam troll (as I said, if some people want to use it, ok; but, I do not want to be forced to use it if I do not want to), and I know that if Obsidian can make another Fallout game, they could not change this, if Bethesda decide that it will be. I just wanted to say my dilemma, and I do not think I am the only one in this case.
  13. I am currently playing Spellforce: the Order of Dawn, and I am not far from the end (of the first game, without addons). Very interesting, I like how they mixed RTS and RPG, even if there is no pause (so you have to be quick) and even if the whole first campaign seems to be a huge tutorial. I really hope that the addons and the sequel will contain much of story.
  14. I don't really care about replays or something else. I don't really want him to have too much pressure to play Arcanum. He could not to enjoy it: not thinking "well, that is a game interesting to play" but "oh, dawn stretch goal, fans want it, I HAVE TO play this game". A little comment on twitter could be just enough for me. @Veraxus: have you tried the unofficial patches that fix a lot of bugs?
  15. There is another interview of Mr Fargo about the new Torment: http://www.nowgamer.com/features/1766807/brian_fargo_interview_new_torment_numenera_crpg.html He seems to be less categoric about turn-based or real time with pause than the previous interviews, the new picture is very interesting (maybe somebody could say that it has a Sigil's - or even a Zerg's [remember the "Hive" in both Starcraft and Planescape?] - feeling) even if it is a work in progress. Mr Fargo concluded that a Numenera: Torment's Kickstarter campaign will certainly begin before Wasteland 2's release. But I think it should happen after the first betas to see what is really inside this new Wasteland and what is worth.
  16. Well if you think about the Twilight Zone series, each episode (and each season) is very different, but it is the same franchise. And TZ is considered as a classic. So why not in a video game?
  17. The last romance I did appreciate in a cRPG was the one involving Fall-from-Grace, because of the background of this character (very deep, and also sad), some dialogues with Nordom (even if the best funny situations were those involving Morte and Nordom), and some kind of greek tragedy in her. But after then, through modern games, romances are just... romances for what they are. I was a bit pessimist concerning them. But yes, I found that in Alpha Protocol, it was a bit funny (seems to be a joke on James Bond's movies). So, well... I must admit that if romances are totally optional, and well written, why not. *Cough* ... *Cough* ... (Sorry I thought about something else )
  18. Thinking about Torment, I'm not really sure that more dungeons would be the best: in Curst, alternating fights and dialogues showed the emergency, it was nervous and perfect for the circumstances. If there would be more dungeons and more fights alternating with dialogues in other places, Curst wouldn't be the same: just another city.
  19. Or it could just be semantic. Not "Conan-like" Barbarians, but "Greek-Roman-like" Barbarians: from tribes or villages far from "civilized" cities (of course civilization idea was propaganda at this time).
  20. I liked John Carter too, and I would like them to make its sequels. I didn't know that home release sold well, so there's a hope. I asked about JC and SW franchises future, because of Walt Disney Studios Director's resignation. After all, they have invested in SW franchise, so...
  21. Nice interview, Just a thing concerning KotORII and "finished" projects (I don't intend to turn the topic into a "finished or not finished" poll, but I'm just pointing something): if a project (video game) is really and totally finished, doesn't it require any patch, any update, any additionnal content (DLC or expansion)? (even if the DLC/expansion subject is arguable for the question "finished or not?") Some people enjoy the "Director's cut" ending ( = release game's ending), and some people enjoy discovering "That-would-be-the-real" ending (through restoration content mods). That points directly KotORII. Everyone enjoys that he/she wants. But debating of "what ending would have to be the 'real' ending" is a bit pointless, since everyone enjoys that he/she wants.
  22. I don't really know if it's off-topic, but did anyone notice some link with John Carter's saga? Yes, JC fails because of lots of things (cliches, bad promotion, etc...). But did Disney plan to obtain a SciFi franchise? (even if JC and SW are more "Space Fantasy" than Science Fiction) Sure, new SW movies won't suffer bad promotion unlike JC, but what consequences of JC's failure will impact on the future of the SW franchise?
  23. Since jobs and classes aren't really the same thing, and I found in an update that OE will distinct them, so a "merchant" class won't exist, but trading will be in for sure. Why not the famous archetype: a thief being a fence (like the AD&D kit)?
