  1. I don't see how DSIII can be a bad thing! I mean, it's a popular IP (two games +expansions, 1 spin off and a movie, I call that popular), OE gets to work with Chris Taylor and SE, who unlike SEGA during AP's development, isn't facing a financial crisis and able to interject and shape a world with little lore, compared to other established settings and/or even brand new ones, with new life. After all, the land of Ehb hasn't been 100% explored in the two previous DS games and ... uh, let's pretend that whatever happened in the movie never REALLY happened because ... well, Uwe Boll! Is it a franchise that I thought would be quite unlikely for OE to develop? Pretty much, yes. Do I think it is necessarily bad? No. OE is getting work from one of the top dogs in the video game market worldwide. I can't see that being a bad thing. Up to this point we know very little about the game, so why not sit back until something substantial comes up, then we can bitch all we want about it, if it really is as bad a game as some/most of you seem to speculate.
  2. -Hey, is that Michael Thorton? -No, that's Fidel Castro! I laughed till my daily calorie consumption doubled. Seriously, that's the funniest trailer for a video game ever. Whoever came up with it, grats and thanks! Made my day.
  3. Holy crap! Yeah, sometimes the enemies would disappear, but that hardly ruined the game for me. And the mouse movement lagging the game, but that feels like it goes away after the first few missions. I can't even notice it now. I must have been one of the lucky ones. Either that or ... my copy loves me? Did you get those on the PC version, 360 version or PS3 version? I got it for PC.
  4. Honestly? A conspiracy? No, I think people expected a Mass Effect 2. Hey, it's third person, it's real time, it's action, has guns, therefore shooter! Sincerely, there haven't been that many modern or sci-fi real time RPGs so I guess that's what baffles people, that it looks like something, but is actually something else, like it's typecasted. It's very hard to convince people accustomed to this typecast to think outside the box. To those people, yes the game is broken. Thing is, most people in Europe, expected and understood that AP is an RPG, hence the higher scores in comparison to the US. I mean, AP's worst EU review was what? 7.8? Destructoid gave the game a 2! That's almost 6 points! 6 points is like a completely different game! Someone's got it wrong and someone's got it right, obviously. So pick your poison.
  5. Like Christopher Walken would say: "This game is un-****ing-believable". When I lose, I don't get frustrated and when I lose too often, I think "what am I doing wro-hey, is that a door I can pick/ computer I can hack?" and it all goes better than I expected. Since it does share some similarities with ME2 and ME1, I have to say that I like ME2 better, but I like AP more than ME1. So far, my second best game of 2010, which is susceptible to change because ... well, New Vegas!
  6. I get what you mean but a game can't be turn based unless you literally take turns to act. It's not just VATS that I was referring to. Even if Fallout NV still uses real time mostly, I don't think the RPG combat mechanics work in the exact same way as AP, so maybe he will have no problem with it. Unless it's complete TB he's looking for. In which case, I have little to comfort him with.
  7. Get the skill "shadow operative". Presto! It's from the stealth tree. Also, usually to get out of that tight situations, the level is designed in a certain way for you to just do one little thing to beat it. Just find the thing. I did not find the combat tedious at all, I had great fun with it. All the game required of me, was not be an idiot and charge straight in CoD style. When I did something wrong, it was my **** up and I'd reload my last checkpoint. If you don't like real-time RPG combat mechanics ... well, maybe New Vegas can compensate? It's OK for a game to just not be your cup of tea, gameplay-wise, but that doesn't necessarily mean bad.
  8. I don't think AP requires that much imagination to be played. I hate to say this, but "what you see is what you get" as far as the game is concerned. You will see some bad AI, some bad animations, some bad graphics. You will also see a great game. A great story, followed up with great characters, development and dialogue. You will find meaningful choices, almost groundbreaking for a video game. You will find a game that is true RPG, from top to bottom, with a side dish of stealth and action, not a shooter with RPG sprinkled on the top. BTW, nobody seemed to mind when Mass Effect 1, a 360 exclusive at the time of release, was pretty much the same, with the exception of the pistol being as effective as an assault rifle in that game.
  9. My Mike was very Bond. In a ... Bruce Campbell sort of way.
  10. Saw the gametrailers review. *sigh* Here's to cantering to the average shooter fan! AP got a 6.4 because of "broken" gameplay. To quote specifically: "Alpha Protocol doesn't play like a shooter, although it certainly looks the part, and it should". Wow, GT! You keep finding new ways to annoy me. So your problem is why does an RPG play like an RPG since it's using the 3rd person perspective? Well, I'd answer that's because it's an RPG that uses the 3rd person perspective, but that's not like it was in the fine print. If they expected Mass Effect or Splinter Cell, those are primarily action games with RPG elements and stealth mechanics respectively, not primarily RPGs with action/stealth mechanics. People should really learn to RPG! Just finished the game with my Recruit - Operative Mike. Will take a more guns blazing approach for my second playthrough, but I've found my Mike, as far as character goes, and I won't be changing much in dialogues, just some in game choices. I can't believe I'm gonna do my best to minimize my casualties and make as many friends as possible this time. Plus, I will be going after the "chaste" perk after going the "ladies man" way on my first go.
  11. So far playing a Recruit Operator with Stealth, Martial Arts and Sabotage being my main skills. That's just all the skills I've put points in. Finished Saudi Arabia and moved to Taipei. Currently getting my ass handed to me by Omen Deng. The game starts OK, Saudi Arabia wasn't as fun for me, but I really loved Taipei. I liked that Loved Darcy's buddy cop picture and the "Thornton" joke. It's a shame only people that hang out in the Obs forums will get that. Oh well! The AI is indeed silly at times, but I still am getting my ass handed to me on occasion. I suck at shooters, but I've been having a lot of fun with this game. Love the characters so far, love smart ass Mike. Replying to e-mails is a very nice and fun little touch. Took me a while to get the hang of the hacking mini-game. I don't even notice the graphics. I mean, environments look great and ... even the characters don't look that bad. It's hardly the point that makes or breaks the game for me. The soundtrack is AWESOME! I love it! And Josh Gilman does a pretty good Mike. I like Mike! I was a little disappointed that you can't explore the world outside your hub. Like, you can't just walk out of your safehouse and explore the immediate surroundings. You do visit various places around the cities, but you don't get to walk or drive to them. I would have liked a more Bloodlines like hub area instead of just the safehouses. Would allow for a lot more side-quests, but I guess some people would get intimidated by that, maybe. That's all for now and sorry for mixing everything up, it's kinda late, been playing for the past ... uh, 7 hours non stop? Think I'll sleep now.
  12. Yeah, used it for the installation. It's taking pretty long to install, jeez! Anyway, Disc two is just 2.8GB. Was hoping for extras =( Ah, who cares! I'm about to start it up now! Weeeee!
  13. http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/8812/dsc00071cf.jpg Hello from Greece. About to fire it up now! As you can see it's for the PC and, surprise surprise, it's 2 Discs! Wonder what the second one is for ... The manual smells of fre$h the moment I flipped the first page lol! It's like the whole rooms smells like ambi-pur or whatchamacallit. My birthday was round about a fortnight ago, so happy belated birthday to me! Thanks Obs, you're the best! The rest o' y'all Americans can hate me Edit: The picture is kinda large, so I'm just gonna have to link you guys to it.
  14. Someone's been monitoring my playthroughs from the future, it seems, and made a trailer out of them. In-ter-est-ing ...
  15. Not zoned out by the 'outdated' graphics. I don't recall ever playing a game because it looked good, rather than "Oh man, this game's awesome fun!" The AI is a bit of a downer, but you know what? There's that thing called difficulty and I'm sure I can adjust it for a greater challenge. Not that I will raise it above normal anyway, since I suck at any form of shooter. I'm getting even more excited now!
  16. I think it's a pretty fair, if not generous, review. If most reviews fall under that range, I think the general gaming public will look very favorably on this game. I am very content with this score.
  17. Ah crap! I missed this whole thread! I would love to play 2,5 with you guys. I have all the core books right behind me in my book case and even have a DragonLance Campaign setting! Hey, maybe I could play a dense fighter named Odysseas. Oh wait ...
  18. Aaaaaw! We'll miss you! You've been great and very patient with us all. You'll be a hard man to replace, in our appreciation at least. Best of luck whatever it is that you'll be doing!
  19. Word is SC:C is just 5 hours long. I think I'll wait for the 2 hour movie and give that my $7 at the movie theater. You know, AP's ~40 hour length sounds all the more enticing.
  20. Ah Pop! Speaking of Arcanum, didn't it get a port from GOG or something so it will play on Vista and Win7? Onderon would be a great choice, if they were making KotoR thr-oh, now I see what you did there! Why not in America? Well, there's Jack Bauer, Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal in America. Who'd want to mess with those guys? Florence, Prague and Instabul ... definitely! Budapest would also be nice. And Venice. There's plenty of places the world over we would like to see Mike in.
  21. Hm .. after the last delay, pushing AP to summer instead of spring, I can't possibly think of anything that would get me in a good mood. *checks links* Getting kinda cliche, but absolutely true Pre-order bonus from gamestop, you say? NAILED IT ALREADY!
  22. Most MMOs have it. Borderlands had it, even ME had it, but only when buying something from a vendor.
  23. First they said the game suffered from bugs and needed a better positioning. Then they said it needed more polish and better positioning. Now they're saying it needs better positioning. I think what AP suffers from is too good positioning.
  24. Actually, the one with the impossible voice is Daniel Keyser. Just so you know which car to rig up. I'm kinda dissapointed at the video, i hoped to actually see something RPGish. Implying that the 12 year olds who frequent GT actually care about the RPG in their TPS. Seriously, the best kind of marketing AP can get for that crowd would be 'this is 10x more fastpaced and IN YO' FACE than any other shooter you've ever played'. Of course there are people who actually CARE about RPGs on gametrailers, scarce though they may be. I find both Geoff Keighley AND Daniel Keyser to be just as annoying.
  25. I watched the trailer and all I have to say is : Go on ... As far as the Beth forums ... I might have already said this before, but I went there once and I felt like everyone there was set to troll me. I can't go back there.
