Did I mention I'm not touching 4E timelines with a 10' pole?
-
Yeah, but that's like screwing the whole party over. And I don't give XP per encounter. I stack them up per session, if they add up, I just reward them with a level. The whole point was making the fight challenging. So much for that ...

The Great Alpha Protocol release month pool!
SirPetrakus replied to Pop's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
<.< You have much to learn, eager young troll. A good effort, but I give you 0/10 for lack of originality and extrapolation. No troll. I simply see no compelling reason why this latest delay would be the last? I think AP is vaporware, but I certainly hope it isn't! So ... we just imagined the playable mission walkthroughs we saw in E3 '09? Dude, what the hell was I smoking? -
AP collector's or limited Edition (?)
SirPetrakus replied to Perseus Veil's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Same here. If I could actually pre-order a game in my country, I'd pre-order a CE of AP. But as it stands, I can't ;_; Must suck, living in another galaxy and all. Well, actually I could pre-order from an online retailer, since no store in Greece actually supports pre-ordering of any kind, but I keep in mind my uber lame mail service. 9/10 chance of not getting my stuff =D. Play.com sent me my copy of Mass Effect 3 times before I actually got it. And with a 1 month delay from the expected arrival date. Just to save 20 euros from buying it off the shelf from a local retailer. It's just how things work here, I guess. Anyways, too much hassle. =( -
My cleric is getting a tad too creative for my own good. Sent a lvl 10 fighter against the group. He had a + vorpal + speed + keen rapier on him. Thought he would make the fight quite challenging. Cleric cast create water inside the fighter's lungs. Choked to death in less than 2 rounds. I may have to lay down some restrictions.

The Great Alpha Protocol release month pool!

I'm gonna go with June, because on the Obsidian front page there's a link to gamestop that say release date 6/1/2010 <.< You have much to learn, eager young troll. A good effort, but I give you 0/10 for lack of originality and extrapolation. -
Will Obsidian end up with another Jefferson?
SirPetrakus replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
Lare, I understand where you're going with this. Yes, you could blame the publisher in case of rushed games (Atari for NWN2, LucasArts for KotoR 2 and especially JoWood for Gothic 3) that would otherwise provide for a much more polished and enjoyable game. I still managed to complete these games, in spite of their problems, without severe difficulties. Wouldn't I like to see these games 'as they should have been' provided the publisher invested a little more time and money in them? Of course! But it's not like the developers didn't want to make the games at their full potential. I have no doubt that some developers really just want to hit a deadline and move on to the next project for a quick and easy buck, but I really don't think that Obsidian is one of them. Or BioWare for that matter. Some things will always slip under the radar, that's all we're trying to say here. Sure, I'd love to get a game that has no need of a patch or updates, but even Diablo II got another patch not too long ago. And we're talking a 10 year old game here! -
Yep, Liu threw a bucket of water at him while Subby charged some sort of frost-sphere. When we played DA Vampire once (I was GM), the team's Brujah charged a guy and punched him with all his might. The result?-You punch a hole in the guy. -I'm still in celerity, I attack the other one. -You do realize the first one is still hanging from your arm? BTW, it took 3 years, but we finally thought our regular GM to base his modules on creativity instead of his fixation on One.Single.Way. to resolve it. Well, you see, Vampire is actually built to encourage creative thinking. You WOULD get an experience bonus for doing something inconceivable that actually worked. In 3E, it's only 'kill mob, get XP'. You're not supposed to give out experience for actual role-play. How's that for an RPG?

Anyone who saw the first Mortal Kombat movie? I haven't seen the first Mortal Kombat movie in so long, I can't even recall what that means. I only remember it had something to do with the fight against Sub Zero? It's a real shame that D&D is so cramped up in the rules that people forget that you can make something yourself. I remember back in the old days of 2E, where I was usually a PC instead of DM, I would body slam my fighter against other warriors, pull rugs and carpets under the guards, lure people out the windows, entrap monsters in walls of water that I would freeze etc. and the game would reward me for doing so. In 3E, you get no bonus for creative thinking, so who needs it?
-
Wouldn't the staff have given it away? You'd think so, but no. They did see the mage and I gave them a very detailed description of the staff, but they still didn't recognise him. I guess they'd expect Khelben Blackstaff to walk around without masks and cloaks, but with a huge neon sign floating overhead, flickering 'I AM KHELBEN BLACKSTAFF' in bright red letters, because he's that bad ass. It was the most creative use of a 0 level and a 1st level spell I have ever seen. Who knew this combo could be so abusive?

Different party, different session. I'm the DM. Party arrives in Waterdeep and, surely enough, Skullport is at it again. Beholders, Illithid and whatnot have risen to the surface and are attacking the city. The party decides to wait it out in a back alley (whole group was just lvl 2). However, said back alley opened up to a small square, where a mother and her little girl are cornered by a beholder. Now, my plan was to have a robed, masked wizard (a certain member of the council of Waterdeep come to mind, but I wasn't going to give them spoilers yet ) pass through, patch things up and leave just as mysteriously. I didn't really have to come to that. The party's cleric comes up with an idea. Snatches the helmet off the the fighter's head, casts create water in it, hands the helmet to the Barbarian and has him throw the water at the beholder, while the rogue and the ranger distract the beholder from the two civilians. As the beholder turns around, it sees our mage cast ray of frost on the water flying towards it. The water turns into an ice lance and pierces through the beholder's eye, effectively killing it. I was so impressed by my party's innovation and teamwork, I awarded them with a lvl up.

Alpha Protocol has been delayed.
SirPetrakus replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
So they used up 2 states for 2 of their projects? Last time I checked, there's another 48 states in the US. That's another 48 OEI label games. We got a ways till then ... Btw, I might be pre-ordering my copy of AP next week =D One of my friends wants AP to suck, just so he can rub it in my face. I've been pestering him about it for 2 years now ... -
A small recent event, a little '**** yeah!' moment that made me rejoice of the fact that I'm still playing D&D, after 15 years. Playing a Dwarven Favored Soul (lvl 2), I entered a championship in Scornubel to win a prize thta would greatly help my quest, to find a means to resurrect my dead wife. One of the challeneges was extracting a chalice that was hidden in a maze and guarded by a hydra, while also fending off any other combatants. Using my stone cunning, after convincing the DM to let me, in spite of not being underground (^_^), I was able to find a way to the center of the maze where the chalice was. On my way, I stumbled upon a much higher lvl fighter. Attempting to rush to the Hydra and run off with the chalice ASAP, I really didn't want to fight this guy. My attempts to reason with him failed dramatically (rolled 1s on both Diplomacy and Intimidate checks T_T), even when I threatened to end his life. So we each draw our weapons, he a greatsword and me a warhammer. My luck, though, seemed to take a turn for the better, as I won the initiative check by a hair, thus giving me the chance to charge (2x dmg at the cost of -2 hit/AC). I roll my lucky 20d and surely enough stands on 20, potential critical for my 3x dmg warhammer. Second roll, a 17. Having activated as a free action my strength domain power (lvl+CHA mod to dmg), I hit him for a total of 76 dmg, splattering him against the maze's wall. Being lvl 2 never felt more badass.

A few friends and I got together after a long long while for a new session. The outlying farms of a large city are beset by bugbears. The city's guard, quarantined from a plague, is unable to help the farmers outside the walls. The party decides to try and rid the farmlands of the bugbear infestation with little luck, all party members were lvl 1. We dispatched a small patrol or two, but more bugbears remained in their settlement. Well, our barbarian had an amazing idea that ... well, here it is: Barb: How about we suicide bomb them? DM : ... Go on ... Barb: Well, obviously, I'm not gonna kill myself! I'll use the horses. DM: What do you have in mind? Barb: Easy, put two gunpowder barrels on each horse, I ride them into the bugbear settlement and have the ranger shoot the barrels with a fire arrow. DM: And how exactly are you going to ride 6 horses into the bugbear camp? Barb: I'll be balancing on two of them while holding the reins of two horses on each hand. Then, as we enter the bugbear settlement, I jump off just at the right time to avoid getting blown up. DM: O_o? Eh, right. Um, disregarding the fact that you aren't skillful enough to drive 4 horses while balancing on two horses, that you have no way of purchasing gunpowder from anywhere close, since the city is quarantined, and that gunpowder is probably not even invented yet ... this is the most awesome thing I've ever heard. Sadly, we couldn't go through with it in the end =(

Alpha Protocol has been delayed.
SirPetrakus replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Yup. So it's just a few more months till spring. Thanks, Matthew, for the info. I'll just sit back, save up some more cash by then and get more games. *lights a cigarrette* Life is good -

So, Is this game delayed or not?
SirPetrakus replied to TheWatcher's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I'm not gonna say that this speculation is pointless, but it has proved fruitless so far. So I was thinking, this is an Espionage RPG, right? How would a spy go extracting info, non forcefully, without having the people of Obsidian breaking the rules under contract? So I'd like to ask a few questions about the game that hopefully will provide some insight on the games current state. Unless Obsidian's staff has been forbiden from answering any game related questions at all. In which case we are all eff'd. Last video we saw was in August, right? We saw some minor graphical glitches in the game, like a guy's body 'surfing' during the 'falling down dead' animation because of it taking place in a tight spot, then Mike phasing out to a different spot, but near the dead guy's body. I remember this because the staff member playing this had distinctly said that he was expecting this glitch to happen and he didn't like seeing it. Has any such glitch been fixed or smoothed out since? Anything that distinctly made you go =( when seeing it and made you real happy to have it fixed? Games like Uncharted II and Assassin's Creed II that are coming soon to consoles, have some amazing graphics. Now, I am no graphics whore and I have no complaints on any game this gen concerning graphics. However, we've seen an astounding improvement on the in game graphics of AP over time. Since, unfortunate as it is, graphics do seem to help sell a game more than ever now, has there been any improvement since the last build we saw? Are you content with the game's current graphical state and/or would you like, given the time, to work on them some more, or do you consider it rather pointless at this stage? AP certainly is no Street Fighter 4, but the CQC looks promising. However, the animations when a punch or kick connects, seem a little ... non coordinated, as if a punch's impact is delayed by maybe a split second. I guess this could also be included in the first question, but have the CQC animations improved? I'm not sure if maybe this is an older build I'm thinking of and this issue is already resolved, but if not yet, any plans to fix it? Maybe in a patch? Or will the shipped product have this issue resolved? I'm not asking when it will ship or if you guys are still working on that version, just about the support regarding this matter. Any new thoughts that popped up during development that may become available later through DLC? Are you guys working on it right now? Are you planning to work on one after the game's release, again regardless of release date. Might there be more than one DLC? Should we expect one in 2010 or, considering Mass Effect's first DLC was released a whole year and a half after the game's release, 2011? I think we might get something out of this without getting Mr. Rorrie's ear chewed off. Supposing we didn't already get him in enough trouble in that other thread ... If it means anything, Mr. Rorrie, we're all really sorry about that -
Oh dear God! This is one of the worst things we've ever done during an RP session. Forgotten Realms session 2nd Edition, our group was hired by a noble lord to escort his son back from a boarding school. Said lord was higly influential and kidnapping his son could have devastating consequences. So we got ambush in larger numbers and as most of the ambushers would just ignore us and ran straight for the child our mage cast Web centered on the boy so everyone around him was stuck. Then the wizard decided to cast Burning Hands, which resulted in the web catching fire and burning everyone not just in range of the spell, but in contact with the webbing. Explaining the boys charred remains to his father ... didn't end quite favorably for the party.

Well, we once were on a stake out for someone. So the guy shows at one point up and sees us and starts to run away. Thief: Guys! Look! Look! There's the guy! Me: The thief has his hand raised, but he doesn't seem to be pointing at something in particular. Thief: What do y-oh. Right. I'll never get used to that one. Eventually we gathered enough money to get him a regeneration spell cast at him so his finger can grow back. It always was fun however when he went 'Now, you listen here, I-' only to see the NPCs look at his raised hand with no index finger on it. Hired as bodyguards, you say, Oner? That reminds me of something vague. Very vague. I will have to consult some of my old players on it.

I don't think I've posted this. I may have, but I probably haven't. Once again I was the DM in a group that consisted of a few friends. Standard party, Fighter, Druid, Thief and Mage back in good old 2nd E. AD&D. We're in this dungeon and there's this pit in the corridor in front of us filled with this very nasty looking liquid. Thief: I cut ... a piece of my rope and throw it in the pit. What happend? Me: The rope starts making a hissing sound and disolves. Thief: I pick a ... ration out of my pack and throw it in. What happens now? Me: Same thing as the rope. Thief: OK, I stick my index finger in, what happens now?

Walkthrough Trailer #2
SirPetrakus replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Started KotoR II on a Saturday morning and finished it late Sunday night. Fot a 60$ game, that was pretty short. BUT! I have replayed it so many times, it must have hit more than I've played Baldur's Gate I and II together. And that's double digits, in the neighborhoud of over 20 times total. And those games had a headstart! If AP is so good and addicting it will have me coming back for more, I will gladly pay any price and care little if I finished it in less that a day. Which is more than I can say for Mass Effect. Metal Saren? -
