  1. Well ... they pretty much seem to be yes/no type of conversations. At least in the demo, so maybe we'll get something more in-depth in the game itself. Either that or I've been spoiled by Alpha Protocol
  2. That ... that looks awesome! I would have liked a bit more depth to the dialogues, but yeah, it's a dungeon crawler. I loved it, personally. Very good job on the presentation, mr. Nelson. Even if you died a lot
  3. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions =) I have nothing more to ask, except this; do you prefer playing with the gamepad or KB&M? Seriously, that's such a good answer that it's a shame it's not going on a magazine or an article on a video game site =(
  4. Over here! Edit: Did I just beat Funcroc to it? Holy crap!
  5. My lowbie group wants to convince a mostly evil lowbie group to do some dirty work for them and paying them nearly squat. A series of failed diplomacy checks and our Barbarian is just fed up with it. Barbarian: Listen up, you little, s#!ts! I'm not giving you a damn penny! Now do as you're told or I will kill you right now! *intimidate roll 1* Evil rogue notches an arrow. *rolls a 20; potential critical* *rolls a second 20; barbarian gets an arrow stuck in his throat* Only 1 or 2 party members were left alive before the city guard showed up and saved them.
  6. Mr. Chapman, you gave us enough info to fill in for a gamescom preview. You're so awesome, you just peeked Matt Rorie in my appreciation! So, from what I gather, the "auto-aim" feature works more like a "pathfinding" option, for those that want to play the game in the isometric view on consoles, like correcting our course towards the nearest target, but it will also work as a sort of targeting mode for using the "vanity"/over the shoulder, viewpoint, am I correct? However, will a gamepad shoulder button be mapped for targeting the next nearest enemy? Like, what happens if we are surrounded by enemies and the auto-target system keeps us focused on a certain mob? Or does simply tilting the analog stick towards a different direction automatically change our target? How hard or easy will it be to target a specific mob out of the bunch? If I recall, games like Bayoneta and DMC both had that feature. All in all, sounds like the standard adaptation of KB&M controls for the gamepad capabilities. Honestly, it doesn't sound all that bad to me. Are you aiming for a more arcade-y action feel for DSIII? At least for the console counterparts? And if you do, would you say it's more complicated, like the aforementioned games, or something more akin to Dynasty Warriors? If not, how would you describe it? Most importantly, are you even allowed to discuss the battle system this in depth? For the PC, as I understand, we will have the LMB for moving, targeting and the standard attack, RMB probably for rotating the camera, unless you've mapped a different function to it that we've not established yet, the mouse wheel for circling through the combat styles (one handed, two handed etc.) and the 1-0 hotkeys for special abilities. So pretty much what someone would expect from a hack'n'slash RPG on the PC. Am I correct?
  7. The art style was too cartoony? Weren't the two previous DS games just as cartoony? Either that or I missed the part where they looked like a "realistic" modern day shooter. I'm not sure what they mean about the combat system, though.
  8. I showed the pics to my older brother, he's 30 btw, and he already thinks you ruined the franchise Eh, I'm the one that buys the games, so he doesn't really have a say in it. @ Alvin Nelson Don't even joke about it!
  9. Well NOW I understand why people said it looks like a PS2 game! Beautiful, Obz! Just beautiful! You got me sold on this one for the visuals alone. Still can't wait to see gameplay and the UI, but these are really impressive. I've played every Dungeon Siege game on the PC, but I can't for the life of me see how Osidian can ruin this franchise with what they're doing so far. Unless DSIII changes mid game into CoD: Black Ops.
  10. If I read ''It looks like a PS2 game'' ONE MORE TIME! I want to kill someone now. I recently played Titan Quest again. It looks gorgeous. If I zoomed in up close, yeah, I could see that the game wasn't that detailed. Still, a modern console would not handle it with settings maxed out and at the resolution I played the game on. Same goes for DS3. Next time someone wants to play a game that looks like Rage or Crysis 2, please feel free to remind them that we're talking about a game where you could have dozens of enemies simultaneously on screen, which means potentially dozens of special abilities going off nearly simultaneously, each one with its own animation and lighting effects. I think that has some pretty heavy requirements. Especially if you want to confine it to the hardware standards of a console, which is the equivalent of a 5 year old PC. And Crysis 2 blows on consoles. I think the game looks great. I'm sure it looks even better on the PC, if those screenies aren't from the PC version already, and that it will look even better when it finally gets released. That's all I have to say.
  11. You know ... we all expected there'd be a CGI teaser trailer that would show virtually nothing about the game. But not the magic tree with the magic roots again. =(
  12. I liked the game. I honestly think that AP was pretty good. I liked the characters, I liked the story, I liked how much it could change from the choices you made, I liked not being able to shoot straight from the first moment I held a gun! You can say that the game could have been this or that, sure, but it doesn't mean that it was a bad game in itself. AP got reviews that varied from 8.8 to 2. Well, the guy who gave it a 2 is quite possibly an idiot or played a different game, but a 2 it was nonetheless. It just didn't appeal to the majority of the gaming audience. Lots of good/great RPGs didn't. I am actually quite surprised how DragonAge and The Witcher were so successful. Still, I would pretty much rate AP about as high as I rate DA. But that's personal preference, just like Volourn stated his absolute loathing for this game, and power to you, man! That being said, I don't think AP warranted a sequel. There wasn't much left to build on with such an ending. Maybe they could have made a spin-off with Sis because we hardly got any input from her (her being mute helped with that) and she's got quite the fanbase, apparently, but even that, I don't know how it could work. So I guess it's for the best! Better to not make a sequel instead of making a half arsed attempt at one. Especially with no build up.
  13. I don't remember that spider but meh, they're in every game. Seems to be DS 2 either way. Actually, I think it's from DS1!
  14. I second, third and so forth, this request. Come ONNNNNN! Just a few screenies! Where's the harm in that? And please, something more than magical tree roots? Not that those weren't awesome magical tree roots, mind you.
  15. Funny that, I think of Eric Roberts for some reason ...
  16. Would be nice to see a screenshot though. Or footage? Loving, kind devs, any news from Squenix' PR department about when that is planned for? We've literally seen nothing! Well, unless you take into account the magic roots ...
  17. Well, brah, sorry you didn't like your purchase and hope you get that refund, if you disliked the game that much. Me, I had great fun with AP. Hope something more to your liking comes your way soon.
  18. It means that when you're crouching, you generate 20% less noise. If you want to run silently, there is a skill in the stealth tree called "Silent Running". It's 2 ranks, I think, before unlocking basic "Shadow Operative".
  19. Did not see that coming. Very fair, very positive review. I was absolutely certain he would rip AP a new one. Well, surprise surprise!
  20. So you're suggesting the removal of just the weapon skills? Keeping just stealth, sabotage, toughness and Martial arts? That is a very shallow skill tree. It is so shallow in fact that why have it at all? It's like in ME2, where I leveled up and invested my points in ammunition. No, I don't think you understand me here; I spent my character's advancement points to buy ammo! What the ... seriously! I blew chunks out of my opponents and instead of, say, familiarizing with my armor and optimizing for better shield output or getting a better aim with pistols, I got ice bullets. ICE BULLETS! But don't get me wrong, I actually liked ME2.
  21. But if we're going to disagree about putting RPG gameplay mechanics in an RPG no less what's the point of it being an RPG? Let's make another generic shooter! I'm sorry, I just cannot abide by that. I wouldn't have bought this game if it went the shooter route or I would have picked up Conviction instead. Well, I have nothing to refute that, but there are a lot of people that complained about the difficulty, like even the boss fights were broken. If anything is broken, it's their heads. I'm not going to say that everything works perfect in the game, though. The cover mechanics ... could have been much much better. But that is the only problem I ever had with the game! And the chair in the restaurant in Rome. I cringed at that chair! The table too. That's what I want for AP2, better cover mechanics, chairs and tables in restaurants.
  22. I'm sick and tired of defending a game that I like to other people just because other people don't get it. Everyone I've explained the game to, had not realized that AP is an RPG with action/stealth elements built in. Just as in every RPG there are certain rules and parameters that people must abide to in order to be able to go through it. When I informed people that the shooting actually works, but you can't go shooting from the hip and must be within a certain range for each weapon to work, people just retorted that they weren't willing to wait that long and level up just so they can shoot their way through impossible odds. Well, you know what? That's fine. But this isn't the game to do it in. As for impossible bosses and broken gameplay? Let's talk about ME1 for the PC, shall we? Saren, or more like Metal Saren in true DragonBall fashion, has a shield equivalent off the USS Enterprise. Let's take a class like, say the Infiltrator, that uses only the sniper rifle and a pistol. Your squad mates' weapons have overheated within the first 10 seconds and yours too will, if you're not extremely careful. Problem is, Saren's shield regenerates faster than your weapon cools off, so I was stuck in an indefinite loop as I couldn't take Saren's shields down and Saren couldn't kill me, as my medical interface would heal me up faster than he could damage me. THAT is impossible, THAT is broken. AP is easy mode. If you can't handle AP's gameplay you shouldn't even be talking here. I hear complaints about Brayko ... drop 2 incendiaries on him to ware off the armor and he's 4 controlled bursts with the assault rifle. And you needn't even have invested any points in assault rifle to do it. USE your HEAD! And the guy still needs a boatload less than any MGS boss fight. Should we get rid of every boss fight in every game? Should it all be a series of QTEs? Or just throw in an anti-climactic cinematic cutscene? I play a game to PLAY a game not to HAVE IT play ITSELF for me. My God, these people infuriate me.
  23. People tend to forget, I think, how good RPGs look. I'm not talking about the big budget, dime a dozen, guaranteed sales because they look good but are ultimately shallow shooters. Just RPGs. AP is on par, in terms of graphics with ME1. Sure, the animations do seem to take away a little from the overall experience, but come on! Fallout 3, Oblivion, even DragonAge, which I had no problem with their visuals, still don't look as good as AP does. You know where AP looked really ugly? The chair and the table while talking to Marburg and Madison. Seriously, those are the worst looking chairs I've seen in video games. Would I subtract from the game just because of those two chairs and a table? Hell no! It's just two chairs and a table! I cringed when I saw them, but I'd have to be really pre-disposed and pathetic to complain about something like that. It is INSANE the amount of criticism this game has received, especially by the "top" US reviewers. People who turn it down are people who haven't played it or never gave it a chance to begin with. Their loss.
  24. According to Saywer is the best D&D edition. And certainly, Obsidian wouldn't pass the opportunity of working on a franchise with such an enormous fanbase (even with all the bashing against the 4th ed. there still would be a LOT of guaranteed sales) and do another take on Forgotten Realms or another D&D fantasy setting (Eberron?). Assuming that they manage to implement the mechanics correctly and work on it from scratch, it could even turn out to be a pretty good game, and that's coming from someone that is just as much fed up with D&D crpgs as you. With all the legal shenanigans it's quite improbable that a D&D title will be worked on in the near future though. No! NO EBERRON! I HATE EBERRON! I HATE IT WITH A PASSION! Dragonlance, Birthright, Planescape, Awesome Dark Sun, anything but effing Eberron! Hell, I'd take Greyhawk over Eberron! Icewind Dale would be awesome. IWD 2 was the frigging bomb. THE FRIGGING BOMB I TELL YOU! Or something like ToEE. I liked ToEE too. Anything but Eberron, generally.
