No voiced player character
Theonlygarby replied to Draxicus's topic in Avowed: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think obsidian will go non voiced... I can't think of any games of theirs that have voiced protagonists... Maybe Alpha protocol? It's been too long to remember... I think that game was voiced. Also grounded I guess. Though I don't really count that because it's not a typical obsidian game -
I don't mind linear if it's a linear game. But open world games that are linear tend to frustrate me. I'd prefer they commit to one or the other. I'm sure I will eventually like cyberpunk once I can enjoy it for what it is, as opposed to what I thought it would be.

Oh that's actually cool. I guess your start really does matter
-
Really? Weird... Wonder what you did to get that ending to the mission. I played it a couple times... The only thing I didn't do was as a corpo start
-
Yeah as I said I'm still early. But from act 1 it seems very minimal in differences. Talking to the corpo lady the conversation goes differently but it always ends in her giving you the money chip... You turn down the money chip "you're going to regret this" then after the mission she's like "thanks for doing that for me" Hmm not really regretting it yet

Someone caved in! I gave up on the game for now. I also really hate the filler crime people. My biggest problem though, is the dialog. not the quality of writing, just that it really feels pointless which choice you make in dialog. Fairly certain nothing has a real impact. Though I am still early in the game. For the life of me I can't remember the dudes name. But the fat guy with dreadlocks that is in act 1. There is an option to lie to him or to tell the truth. They really make it seem like it matters... But none of the options make any difference Also... The "cool" dialog checks don't seem to matter. You just say a thing then the NPCs are like "wow you're cool now press the dialog option that advances the story so we can get this over with" ALSO it suffers from the vague dialog description problem that fallout 4 had. "Tell that to T-bug" = " you stupid selfish piece of poop t bug would be alive if you weren't so bleeping stupid you bleeping bleep"

I'm definitely stealing this point as my own... Forget who said it but there is a difference between having a month long crunch period and having constant crunch... I think any job has busy periods where you will be expected to put in a little extra time.. the real problem is when that busy period lasts all year or multiple years

Too early to judge... But the controls on console are annoying... Guess I've been playing more on PC lately and the controller is annoying me... I keep trying to press the PlayStation X button... Problem is I'm on Xbox and now x is a and I keep missing QuickTime talking prompts. It doesn't seem all that next gen to me at this point. Story is intriguing but I feel railroaded (I'm still early, and I could probably do side missions but I haven't... So maybe it's my fault for railroading myself. The brain dancing is already annoying and I've only done it once(aside from tutorial) I didn't particularly like witcher 3 so there is a chance I just don't like cdpr games. Too early to say

I see a nomad start in your future... When the game is on sale of course. The footage thing is really weird... Especially because it was just a few days that people couldn't use their own video footage... Weird

Someone is hard to please

While I agree it's hard to justify the Legion, this isn't completely unrealistic. Throughout history there have been plenty of moments, that if you were just plopped into, would seem unjustifiable. Nipton residents were ready to sell each other out for power. They were addicts. Even today the Philippines take a hardline on the drug war, killing many people. So I don't think it's unbelievable to think people could justify the slaughter of a corrupt town. You have to remember that it's a wasteland where murder and slaughter are normal. Sitting in a safe country it's easy to think no one would ever resort to these actions but it's just not accurate. Personally I've never managed to finish a legion playthrough because I feel dirty. But when people are desperate and there is a charismatic strong leader, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that people could justify something similar. The ends justify the means. Most empires are build on the blood innocent lives. Blah blah blah

I bought it day one. As is with most paradox games it takes me 10 tries before I get into it. I'm really liking that I don't feel the urge to blob in the same way CK2 always made me. Really don't like the Catholics wanting me to imprison my daughter's any time they have sex though. Going to have to change that when I get stronger.

I dunno.... I didn't get that feeling from GTA. The equivalent would be having to gas up your car. San Andreas you could be fat/skinny/buff but it wasn't done in a realistic way. I can't really think of anything realistic about GTA. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the next GTA had you gassing up your car Edit: I didn't see you also quoted the second half. Yeah I guess the world is open... But the story is not... Which is half of what I think an open world is

The only thing that I hated about RDR2 was that it was "ultra realistic" for cleaning yourself and your horse... You had to eat and bathe... Yet you could get shot in the head 5 times and be alright. Imo there was a huge disconnect between combat and the rest of the game.... Also the missions were extremely linear,. If you diverge from the plan whatsoever the mission failed... Which I think is the only real knock against its openness

I preordered my Xbox series X and I'm super excited to play all the release titles like..... No wait I'm sure there must be release titles... Oh there is assassin's Creed... Also there is... Umm... Did I mention assassin's Creed yet?

So who are the writers of Avowed?
Theonlygarby replied to Adridactelo's topic in Avowed: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have it and have been meaning to play. I think the only thing that has held me back is no combat and also I'm really bad for restarting because I didn't meet some speech check... And that game is all dice rolls... I know it's a game where failing can be more interesting than succeeding but it still bothers me i really should play it though -

Yeah it's not perfect but I can't think of many games that are way better. I find it odd when people say something is bad but can't give examples of what is good. Also I'm desperately looking for well written games. -

What games are better writing wise? I'm not even trying to argue I just want to play these games. -
What Are You Playing Now: Gaming Lives
Theonlygarby replied to Amentep's topic in Computer and Console
Hey guys I got laid! Just kidding, I've been playing skyrim. I LOVE how everyone tells you their job very awkwardly. "I'm the steward to blah blah it sure is a hard job". Generally I feel guilty be a psychopath in video games, but Skyrim is so lifeless I feel none. Hurray -
I am disappointed....
Theonlygarby replied to ABSofficial's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It was my first real CRPG ... Haven't been able to find anything I enjoy nearly as much. Tried Baldur's Gate but I feel like it needs nostalgia I just don't have for it.
