I agree open worlds often have a problem with "why am I doing this side quest?". New Vegas did this the best because there was no real reason for you to care beyond revenge... You were able to fill in the lines of what your motivation was. I hope you aren't "the chosen one" not game ruining just such a cliche at this point. I prefer starting out as a nobody. Fall of woedica could be interesting .. that's far enough back for me. Problem with prequels is that it's hard to have any surprises.

I agree KCD was good... Janky as all hell but at least it felt like a real combat system. Instead of press 1 button all game long... That being said I'll take a good story over pretty much anything else What's everyone thinking as far as pre POE or post POE? I guess the obvious answer would be pre. Though we really have no idea anything other than its based in eora. I kind of loath prequels in general but it seems much more likely Unless it is super far back prequel... Then I'm down By

Outer Worlds Fanart
Theonlygarby replied to Craig Bruyn's topic in The Outer Worlds: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not to be a bummer but I don't think toss ball existed back on earth... Could definitely be wrong but i think it's a colony game no? -
I'm not even against class based. Just can't think of a first person RPGs that does it... Nevermind... Mass effect did it. Though it wouldn't be "like Skyrim" if it was like mass effect... I mean one is party based (somewhat at least) and the other is not. Either way, I do really like the skill growth through use of that skill. Not a game changer by any means but it feels more real.

I really hope it's not a continuation personally. It always bothers me when you start a new game as an old character... But are for some reason very weak. They did a decent job in deadfire making it believable. Due to souls being lost. But still... Not a fan of the level 1 again in sequels. In the pillars world? Maybe. But i would be shocked if it was a straight up continuation... That would annoy lots of crpg fans and also send new fans in blindly. Definitely don't see that happening. They would almost definitely have to mess with classes/magic. I can't think of any first person RPGs that have classes. How would a bard work if it is not party based? Generally first person/third person games let you choose stats but not class. "Class" is just built as you level up. Also as Achilles said, the series is not a huge success. You probably aren't attracting anyone with the pillars IP. I can't imagine there are too many people that would skip this new game because it is NOT in the pillars universe. Side note, I much prefer the elder scrolls/tyranny/kingdom come leveling system. By that I mean do a thing to get better at that thing. Instead of place skill points into skills to get better... Beside the point but still.

You could be right. I just think you alienate the CRPG pillars fans. Not that its a huge number, there are POE fans who do not like 1st/3rd person rpgs. I've also read an interview with Sawyer where he said there were things he would change if he could do it again. As he had to somewhat rush the world building. Personally I dont think the world and its magic lend itself to first person. It's also weird going from CRPG to first person. There are lots of people who dont play crpgs, and some who dont play 1st person. Fallout 3 did it, but they also completely abandoned the old model of game. Not sure any game switches up that much back and forth. I could definitely be wrong... i just have a hunch that its not going to be pillars. I mean... any pillars fan that would be excited for a first person pillars game, will also be excited for a new IP fantasy game. To anyone who doesn't play the original pillars, I'm sure they would prefer a world that they arent missing any content for. Then if there is a crpg pillars 3 game, you havent annoyed any fans. if i had to guess, it would be a less magic heavy world. PLEASE GOD GIVE ME GRIMDARK. Would also maybe be a comprimise for Josh wanting a historical RPG. OR maybe he actually got that historical RPG?

I'm not sure fallout 4 is really a spin off of fallout 3... Unless you consider fallout 2 a spinoff of fallout 1. They are unrelated stories, but are final fantasy spin offs of other final fantasy? I mean at least fallout 3 and 4 are in the same world. Though not sequels definitely not what I'd consider spin offs either. The BOS is more of a spin off. As it's telling a story about one particular group within fallout. Would new Vegas be a spin off? As it does follow the 1 and 2 lore pretty closely. Are every star trek a spin off of the original star trek and not actually star trek? I think I just don't understand your definition of spin off

I think Obsidian would jump on that if they could. It won't happen though. Although microsoft does own inxile, which has the Wasteland series. So i suppose it's possible inxile and obsidian could partner up for that. I think that's the most you could hope for.

From the maps i've seen on that thread i could see a rauatai/living lands setting. I dont see Living Lands being the only lands you see in POE3. Story wise i feel like after POE2, Rauatai is the most changed continent. Also its close enough to the living lands that you could spend some of the game there. I don't think it really matters who controls Ukaizo. Unless you visit ukaizo, its only dialog that would change depending on who controls it. Rauatai storms end regardless of your choice. Old Vailia is the only one that i think would affect an entire region as they now have a new capital. I highly doubt we will be visiting old vailia anyways. Rauatai's kingdom still exists regardless, Vailian Trading Company still has their settlements everywhere. And if the queen controls the region... then nothing really changes.

I think rauatai makes the most sense. Depending on where exactly Rauatai is in the world, it could also include living lands or white that wends. Has anyone figured out the placement of the different territories?

True that does look good. Though something has always turned me off of Horizon Zero Dawn Might be the robot dinosaurs

It was pretty unimpressive in my opinion. Here's hoping Xbox game studios arent making the same hack n slash/shooter games 50 times over. did anyone watch? and were you impressed?

Well... I probably would have played it even without being enhanced... but i only ever played the enhanced version... so i might fall into the newcomer category. though i would attribute that more to playing POE(first crpg i played) and enjoying it. As far as voice overs go. I really enjoy them, however if it is the difference between the series being profitable... I will make my lazy ass read.

I would love a First person tyranny. Being a bad guy in a first person role playing game would be fun... im not deranged i swear... That being said, POE3 is way more likely.

Yeah I agree the main questline takes away from the rest of the story. I think if the game was more linear they could have made sense of the sidetracking. I enjoyed the side stories enough that i can look past the ignoring of Eothas. I still think that its a good "middle" episode. Episode 1 establishes setting and lore. Episode 2 causes big changes in the world. and HOPEFULLY!!! episode 3 wraps it all up(this saga at least)

I don't mind dwarves, but i wouldn't play as one. Elves I would play as. Halflings... do you mean half elf because thats fine. I think i've also seen halflings almost gnomeish and i wouldnt make my character a gnome. Surprisingly I like Orlans even though it kind of goes against everything i've said... I think its because they are cute and angry.... Reminds me of my ex girlfriend. That's true... in pillars you generally get to an area and struggle hard on that first map battle, even though you win, you realize you probably need to level up before you continue. I do remember in DOS2 often going to an area and getting wiped out before i got a shot off... then going somewhere else and the same thing happening. Rinse and repeat until you can find something doable. I think in the end i'm a story first person, and the story does nothing for me. Also in DOS2 you wear a source disabling neck brace... yet you can use all your magic... I guess i just dont understand the lore of what exactly source is... I thought it was magic, but nope... you can still use magic.

Definitely agree for the most part. The combat was really the only thing I liked from it. In general i'm hesitant with Fantasy races, they often come off as cheesy. The cat people in Elder Scrolls definitely fit into that category. Cats are so damn tempermental I would actually probably be racist if cat people existed.
