  1. Here we go again -- the problem is my monitor. IF I had a CRT or an LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1280x1024 or less I wouldn't be having these issues but since I'm using a 20" ws LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1680x1050 then I'm going have FPS issues. Correct? What? So, now we go from saying, "LCDs need to run in their native which is probably 1600x1200? that would be murder on most vid cards" TO "running OUT OF NATIVE is a problem for LCDs in general". This is why you don't make sense. So, tell me taks, if running the game in either the native or non-native resolution is going to be a problem because either it's too taxing on my video card or because running out of native is a problem for most LCD monitors then what is your solution to my problem? Sounds to me if I had a CRT or a smaller LCD I wouldn't be having these issues thus my monitor being the problem.
  2. I would hope that my 7900GT 512mb card would be able to handle 1680x1050 resolution, at least it says it will.
  3. How can you go from saying, "oooohhh... you have an LCD. sorry. yeah, that could be a killer. LCDs need to run in their native which is probably 1600x1200? that would be murder on most vid cards" and then turn around and tell me, "I didn't say your LCD was the problem"? If my LCD has a native resolution of 1680x1050 and NWN2 isn't going to play well at that resolution then how is this NOT an issue with my monitor - according to you? Yes, I can run the game at a lower resolution and have it look crappy, at least I thought it would until Wistrik pointed out that the game auto adjusts so it doesn't stretch out the image if I try running the game at 1280x1024. I'm not going to continue arguing with you because you don't make sense. You say one thing and then change your mind and say something else. I'll try changing the resolution tonight when I get off work and see if that looks good and improves my performance.
  4. I'm using the latest drivers for my monitor - thanks for asking. I'll try running the game at 1280x1024 and see how it looks. If it auto adjusts like you say it does then I don't mind playing with the black bars. I thought it would just stretch the image out.
  5. I've went back and re-read your post several times now and I keep coming to the same conclusion -- you seem to think my LCD is the reason for my poor FPS in NWN2. I was explaining to you that I can run other graphic intensive games without any problems. I understand this could very well be an issue with NWN2's engine but how is that the problem of the monitor. You should have just said, "Due to NWN2's engine limitations it probably has problems running at higher resolutions." Well, ok then.
  6. a) those are different games. comparing one game to another is naive and/or short sighted. WoW ain't an rpg, and oblivion has much different style graphics (actually, so does WoW for that matter). taks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yah, those are different games but both are graphic intensive and I have no problems running them at high resolution with my LCD monitor. I was trying to point out that my monitor is not the problem which you stated was. Also, where do I come off saying WoW is an "RPG"??? I wasn't comparing the games genre's here, buddy.
  7. LCD (Westinghouse LVM-37w1) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok I was curious because someone said my FPS problem was due to having a LCD monitor running at 1680x1050. I run all my other games(WoW, Oblivion, Dark Messiah) just fine at that resolution but only getting 20-25 FPS outdoors on NWN2. What FPS are you getting outdoors? I just tried disabling the water effects and it didn't improve.
  8. Well, I get 70-90 FPS playing WoW @ 1680x1050 w/ settings maxed. I get 100/40+ FPS Indoors/Outdoors while playing Oblivion @ 1680x1050 w/ settings maxed. So, I don't see how this could be a problem with my LCD monitor.
  9. Me too. The game runs beautifully at 1920x1080, in fact, as long as I turn off the water effects. With everything else maxed out, the game still runs really well on my dual core rig, so I'm more than happy. Seems strange that water effects are the only thing that can bring my PC to its knees though. Maybe they were a late addition, and not optimized very well. Who knows. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are you using a CRT or LCD monitor?
  10. disable v-sync. i think the default with most drivers is application controlled, which is bad for this game. it will easily double your FPS. another is to turn off shadows. i'm now running medium everything with low shadows at 1024x768 hitting 45-60 FPS on the 6800 vanilla (extra pipes turned on). taks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> V-sync is off - I have that manually turned off in the nvidia control panel. I tried running with shadows off and it gave me a +5 to FPS(went from 20 to around 25). I also have the latest nvidia drivers(93.71). The only way the game runs good is if I turn off AA/AF, turn off all lighting effects, set my resolution to 1280x960, which doesn't look good on a ws 20" lcd) and then I get 40-50 outdoors but the game looks horrible.
  11. Any Core 2 Duo CPU would be fine i'm sure. My C2D E6600 runs NWN2 fine for example. As for graphics i recommend a high end Nvidia graphics card like something from the Geforce 7900 line cause shadows are frelled with ATI cards Add 2GB of RAM and NWN2 and almost every other game will run like a dream at high settings <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmm...that's funny, NWN2 doesn't run "like a dream" at high settings for me. I get pretty good FPS indoors(50-60) and as soon as I step outside my FPS drops to 20 and lower. I stated my system specs over in the First Impressions thread but I'll list them again -- Intel C2D 6400, 2gb RAM, 7900GT 512mb, Soundblaster X-Fi, WD Raptor 74gb. I can run Oblivion just fine at high settings but not NWN2.
  12. There's your most overrated game for 2006.
  13. My impression of this game may be a whole lot better if I could get higher than 15 FPS when I'm outdoors. This on a PC where I can get 40+ FPS outdoors on Oblivion. My specs more than meet the requirements -- Intel C2D 6400, 2GB RAM, 7900 GT 512mb, X-Fi sound card, 74gb Raptor HD. Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem.
  14. I just recently closed my WoW account because Final Fantasy XII & NWN2 were released. I'll probably go back when Burning Crusade is released or after I get tired with NWN2 and FFXII. I played an Undead Rogue on an RP server and had fun. I found population to be more mature and friendly, compared to the other non-RP servers I played on.
  15. Final Fantasy XII ....then NWN2! Hopefully they will have fixed some of the performance issues by then.
  16. The World is doomed if those were his all-time favorite PC games. Those games don't hold a candle to FFT.
  17. FFT is one of the great FF games ever! Period. If turn-based strategy games don't appeal to you then you won't have fun with it but as a fan of the genre, I think it's one of the best TB-strategy games ever made.
  18. I wasn't going to touch this until I finished FFXII but I decided to install it to see how the character creation, graphics, & UI looked. Character creation is much better compared to NWN but not as detailed as I would have liked. In game graphics are a let down. The screenshots make it look a whole lot better than what I'm playing. FYI - I'm running the game on a high end PC w/ a 7900GT 512mb card and I have the settings maxed. I would have to agree with Gamespot's score on the graphics(6/10). Camera control in this game is horrible. It's going to take me a while to set things up to where it's playable. I finished the Tutorial and thought it was good. Definitely going to play through this when I get the time but still can't help but feel disappointed with the overall look and feel of the game.
  19. I echo Volo's early impressions. This game definitely feels like a Final Fantasy game, something I didn't get with X and X-2. Like Volo, I'm only a couple hours in but the graphics and music are nothing short of amazing and I love the new combat system. I haven't had this much fun in a FF game since IX. It's too early to say if this will top VI as my all time favorite FF game but it's off too a very good start. I picked up NWN2 today but sadly it's going to be shelved until I'm done with this game.
  20. Kasavin is a terrible reviewer and I pretty much ignore whatever Gamespot has to say. Their Dark Messiah review was a joke and after you read the FFXII review you wonder why it didn't score higher. I'm only a couple hours in but so far I'm loving it and I didn't say that about FFX. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's very objective, his writing is very neutral/cold. I never get the feeling that he writes "on order" from a publisher. His reviews are well structured, informative and usually, for me anyway, quite accurate. The few bad points he write about FFXII are enough to justify a -10% on the score(although I haven't played it yet). He would suck as a reviewer if he scored it 100% imho... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've never liked him as a reviewer but if you trust his reviews then that's up to you. I don't think the game deserves a perfect score even though 6 other publications have given it that but after I read Kasavin's review it should have been a 9.4-9.5. But hey, you can't have a PS2 game score too high when you got a whole lot of next-gen games being released this fall. That doesn't mean anything to me but it does for some.

  22. My local Gamestop sold out this afternoon. I guess it all depends on where you live but with a few million copies of the game out there it shouldn't be too hard to find one. The game is still going to outsell anything released this year.
  23. Yes, I was referring to the limited edition guide for FFXII. You get the guide plus the art book in a hard cover casing. Pretty neat actually. It was $5 more than the standard guide.
  24. I went to pick up my copy at midnight from my local Gamestop and I wasn't expecting a whole lot of people to be there. They said be there at 11pm for the "costume party" -- whatever, I just wanted to get the damn game and go home. So, I show up at 10 minutes before midnight and there was a line of about 30 people or more. Unbelievable. I finally got out of there at about 1:30am and by the time I got back home I had to get to bed -- working on 5 hours of sleep isn't fun. I think I'll go home after work and start playing -- make my Wife take the kids "trick-or-treating" in the cold while I sit inside the nice, warm house playing FFXII. Volo, did you get the LE guide or just the standard one? And I thought the guide for DQVIII was big.....holy sh*t!
  25. You mean like Britney Spears, or the Back Street Boys, or The Bold and Beautiful, or Friends, or the movie Armageddon, or Fast and Furious or Danielle Steele's books. These are all brilliant examples. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you want to make comparisons, I would compare FF to The Beatles, not Britney. The video game equivalent of Britney would be more like Deer Hunter. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would have said U2 or the Rolling Stones but The Beatles work!
