  1. Has anyone studied the effects of this miraculous powder on Kith physiology yet? I am willing to offer my high Alchemy level services!
  2. I'd also like to have the God Challenges be possible on every difficulty, and to have one that limits resting and makes injuries tougher to deal with, more in line with PoE1 (Rymrgand perhaps, as in " gradually grinding down your party"?). People complaining that this is tedious instead of challenging can just not take the challenge, or learn to roll with the punches instead of going back and forth whenever someone drops for a moment.
  3. Ranger's underwhelming to play, but the crazy accuracy stacking, great utility of concussive tranquilizer, and driving flight/twinned shot with the likes of The Red Hand or Frostseeker make them quite useful even as single-class. Especially since stunning shots (interrupt on crit), combined with the accuracy stacking of a proper ranger, means you'll likely interrupt on every attack. As for the pet, I imagine that a multiclassed ranger probably won't put his talent points in companion abilities, but as a single-classed ranger cultivating the pet means eventually having an extra party member, except they can only auto-attack. And a well-executed Takedown Combo can pack quite a punch. Fighters are somewhat underwhelming to play, perhaps, but their main role as tanks and battlefield controller is filled in pretty well. 2.1 already seems to boost their damage output somewhat, so I don't think they need much more. For damage dealers I'd rather see some work done to Rogues, as they mostly subsist on their passives now, strong as they may be.
  4. Those animal faces have some of the derpiest expressions I've seen, especially the boar. "Father of monsters" may have a different meaning than i thought.
  5. I'd say either Galawain, Rymrgand or Hylea's choices would fit best for your character: Galawain and Rymrgand for the reasons already stated, and Hylea for the unique opportunity to study the souls of the former hollowborn.
  6. Certainly looks like an avatar of Galawain would, so I imagine that's what it is. Perhaps the entrance to a shrine dedicated to him, like the wolf's head in Twin Elms?
  7. I gave up unlocking this and I already did that part of Neketaka, so let's hope I can find more rotting corpses somewhere else... There's plenty of rotten corpsepiles in the undercity to sicken anyone, and I don't think the miasma there ever dissipates. It should work just by standing in the right spot.
  8. Rauatai already breaks all ties with the watcher if you side with the druids on Sayuka, and if you kill Scyorielaphas during The Shadow under Nekataka, Onekaza banishes you from her service unless you convince her to do otherwise. They could definitely improve and expand those options, but I don't see experienced politicians (possibly excluding Aeldys) lose their composure over some petty insults, especially since they're all among their subordinates; they'd essentially be undermining their own authority by throwing a public tantrum. Also, being offensive doesn't change anything about your potential use as a free agent, especially when said agent has irreplacable abilities. Sure, you don't even come close to the influence the factions hold, but you're a key tool to shift the deadlock between them. Throwing that away when it may still have some use would be ridiculous.
  9. As most fans of the genre are likely to end up buying both games, I don't think competition will be that important a factor.
  10. Considering his overall canon as a servant/personal guard of royals, picking or multiclassing with darcozzi paladini could be interesting to show his connection to Vailia, if you don't mind their awful subclass bonuses. Or you could flip the playable marker of "Brothers of the Five Suns" to true to play as a member. Aside from that, Cipher sounds like a perfect fit overall.
  11. Yeah. Some people really like that. Some people really like games for the story. Thank you for repeating it again. You can only push an open world so far before it necessitates a trade-off between properly telling a story and allowing your players to explore without boundaries. Deadfire already had troubles in this regard, and I wouldn't want Obs to try and push it even further: they'd never manage to give it the sense of freedom and discovery Bethesda perfected, and they'd end up cutting into the C&C, storytelling and RP that have become their trademark You don't play Skyrim for the roleplaying: it's possible and can definitely be enjoyable, but it requires a ****load of mods as the game offers little to no reactivity whatsoever, aside from guard comments. Similarly, I'm fairly certain few people play deadfire because of the amazing open world: what drew most people in is the reactive C&C and storytelling, and the prospect of good tactical combat. Leave open worlds to games like the TES series, Fallout, and Dragon's Dogma, who are more than enough to fulfill one's needs for unrestricted exploration. Obsidian shines when writing a reactive narrative, deeply interwoven with the characters and locations in-game. If that means restricting the players' freedom to make certain said narrative flows well, I'm all for it. it can only improve the C&C and RPing in their games.
  12. Considering that'd probably cause Sickened and may deal corrode damage, that would be the Bleak walker variety. They're just as merciless to themselves as to others. I see will also need another "Battle of Yenwood" quest. Marshal: "The enemy's heavy infantry is approaching in a tight line!" Watcher: "Order the Bleak Walkers to turn around, lower their pants and wait for my signal!" It'd be Rakhan Field all over again, except noone would ever want to remember it.

  14. If they add a couple of items, this can turn into a character build. Imagine the horrified look on your companions' faces when you activate "shared flames"
  15. I imagine the story can feel somewhat weak as a blank-slate watcher, since it means your character likely lacks personal beliefs/drive during his journey. Deadfire is excellent in reacting to a deliberately crafted character, but if your character lacks such characteristics and convictions there's little for the game to offer in reactivity and challenge to your character. As Deadfire is an RPG, and an actual RPG rather than the watered-down version of most AAA companies nowadays, I personally see properly writing and rp-ing my watchers as a must for a good playthrough. Not that I didn't do the same for Skyrim/DA:I, but Deadfire offers far more opportunity to let your background and characteristics shine through than either of those, and does so very well in my opinion.
  16. I'd say the story is about how even a single person can only solve so many problems alone, and about the limits of agency when confronted with a god. You can only do so much for the deadfire, yet doing nothing plunges the entire region into an even deeper chaos; likewise, it is impossible to stop Eothas, and it is only because of his aid and the directive of the other gods that you manage to reach him in the end. At the same time, the gods and factions constantly try to manipulate you, and there's often no way of knowing the right choice if there even is one. The gods often try to push their agenda through intimidation and force; The factions are more subtle, involving you in plots or political manouver without letting you know the full picture unless you go looking for it yourself. However, you have little choice in your hunt for Eothas, and the only way to stabilize the region is to follow through with one of the faction plots. However, it also subverts that idea: for all the power of the gods, it takes mortal Kith to confront and overcome the obstacles in the way of "stopping" Eothas. It's Kith who find a way to sail through Ondra's Mortar without divine aid, Kith who deal with a dragon-lich Rymrgand never managed to destroy on his own, and Kith who end up deciding Eothas' last gift to Eora. Kith who use engineering feats, animancy tech, inherited knowledge and daring, ridiculous plots to do what none of the gods managed to do: influence Eothas plans, even if it is only in the slightest degree. In the same way, the factions don't have all power over you: They may hold back knowledge from you, but there's nothing Furrante can do once you freed every slave on Crookspur, or Director Castol once you destroy the adra at Poko Kohara. Rauatai may oppose you when you betray Sakuya, and Onekaza may banish you from her service when you kill Scyorielaphas, but those choices always lead to their doom by losing a key agent in the deadfire. So to summarize it all: It's about the limited agency a person has when confronted with powers greater than any individual, but also about how that limited agency can be far more important than you'd initially think. Somewhat similar to the Kingmaker Scenario in Game Theory: when two greater forces oppose a smaller force as well as each other, that third is in a unique position to determine the outcome, no matter how small. His options are limited, certainly, but the other forces depend on it to break the stalemate.
  17. Nice way to unleash your inner Saitama, if unlikely to work without ludicrously gaming the system. But that's what pillars is for, right? 3.0: Entire city of Ukaizo confirmed as first mega-boss, tormenting you with lightning strikes and relentless gale-winds as you navigate the ruinous streets. When down to 1/3d of its health, it suddenly converts to a huge essence-fueled mecha and starts firing beams of soul energy from the wheel in a brand-new bullet hell mode.
  18. I'd rather play a grounded character whose influence on the story/world is limited and realistic, both in gameplay and story, than one in which I consistently get told how awesome and powerful I am while doing nothing but running from region to region doing menial jobs *cough* DAI *cough* As for Deadfire: 1) you can tell the gods they're wasting your time/being idiots/useless in most "god council" interactions with them, nobody forces you to be an asslicker, just to follow a general sense of self-preservation; and 2) look at any real-life religion and the pillars gods are actually pretty tame in their reactions to a "respectless" watcher.
  19. Discovered the exact same issue today, so it may be better to post a bug report, or move this thread there. I'll do some tests to see whether the shield starts keeping count when the plate is unequipped, and which one continues counting when the plate is re-equipped.
  20. Chill fog can be extremely useful for blinding fampyrs, and the chanter phrase "they shielded their eyes 'gainst the fampyr's gaze" adds resistance to dominate/charm. It's how I got through splintered reef, along with shimmerscale on Eder.
  21. The soundtrack may not be the most memorable, but the quality of the environmental and ambient music is a perfect fit with the game's atmosphere. But I'm all for adding more noticable themes for boss battles or key story sequences.
