I've been going through the FS for the first time over the past few days: Great DLC, both in combat and story, and I love the small bits of info sprinkled in everywhere, with quite a few screwed up conclusions. While there're quite a few notable bits of lore here, one thing that grabbed my attention was an ambient comment Rekke made when entering The Scriptorium, after defeating that memory eating thing, concerning his rescue from the wreckage: Now, this is ambient dialogue: I reloaded the area to check a few times and had Serafen talk about a pirate library he took us to in Dunnage, and Eder about a winery near Dyrford we supposedly saved from xaurips. It's easily missed, and even if you take Rekke along, getting this bit of information is fully up to chance, which is oddly fitting for the DLC. Also, all of the ambient remarks seem to be about events the watcher forgot about: Personally, I'd say it could be that defeating the memory eater somehow returned said memory to the party member mentioning it. To me, this simple comment showed the fundamental impact of the Hand Occult's activities on Eora: Sure, there're dozens of examples all through the halls of people, events and places removed from memory by their actions. But this one shows that even the Watcher had some of his memories erased: when it comes to Rekke, as far as we know, we just happened to find a guy adrift on a piece of flotsam. However, Rekke doesn't just ask what happened to a "friend" we've never had any other hints about: he mentions finding him in the actual wreckage rather than a small piece to cling to, something we definitely never found... right? Could be that Wael or his Hand is just screwing with us, of course. But for all we know, one of those memory-drained people stuck in the collections could be another Yezuhan we found, removed from existence by the Hand. And we'd never have known.

SPOILERS About the end
Taevyr replied to Nssheepster's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It's like when you build a dam to control the flow of water coming from a lake. Sure, water flowed fine before you put the dam there, but breaking the dam doesn't mean it'll automatically return to how it used to be. The remaining machinery/blockade might clog up the entire lake, or the lake could run empty due to the flow being too heavy, etc. -
Gameplay 14min
Taevyr replied to adam77's topic in The Outer Worlds: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Honestly, while the game doesn't look like it'll have the deepest combat, or story, it definitely looks like it'll be quite an enjoyable ride. And after hardly playing anything but story-driven isometric CRPG's over the past few years, that may be exactly what i need -
What did you name your ship?

And then Eothas went "Can't touch this" and did his thing anyway -

Apparently Alex Scokel was lead narrative designer for both BoW and SSS, while Paul Kirsch wrote most of the side content like side quests, item/bestiary descriptions and such, and notably wrote the Waidwen area. While I don't know what Scokel wrote in the basegame, a list of Kirsch's work can be found here, which shows his own skill quite well in my opinion. Considering their track record thus far, PoE3 may be better of if the two of them along with Fenstermaker take the lead of the narrative next time. Josh is a great designer of mechanics and world building, but the way Pallegina and Deadfire's gods got screwed is just painful. As for Open World, it's lingering Skyrim syndrome: DA:I got it, several other games got it, and most, if not all, suffered for it. Going back to a PoE1-style "open" world wouldn't be a bad thing.

Please help: BoW finale
Taevyr replied to Grimo88's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
For the spirits in BoW, just stand on the glyphs/symbols they have in front of them and they'll buff your damage. I can't believe how many people miss this, i mean, spirits who said they'll help you have oddly shiny symbols laid out in front of them? It's basicallty an invitation to see what happens when you stand on them. -
About to finish re-reading the Wheel of Time series, which means I'll have to find some new series to read. Been thinking about getting started with either the Dresden files, The Black Company, or Altered Carbon. If anyone's got a recommendation, they're more than welcome. I have to say, on a second read, WoT is even better. The foreshadowing is really well done, like how yet you'd never notice on a first read. And the crazy politics and plotting shines even more when you already have a gist of what the characters are planning.

Just finished watching the first episode of Vento Aureo, the anime adaptation of the 5th part of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Looks great, improved the introduction a lot from the original manga, and there's already meme material adapted into the first episode. Gonna be a gold experience for sure. Also, I may have squealed slightly when i saw that WoT confirmation. Won't believe it until it's actually here, but at least it's all but certain to arrive now.

Enjoyment.
Taevyr replied to Tawmis's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Algroth seems to have said everything that needs to be said, but I'd like to add that the DLC thus far show that they've been hearing the complaints: BoW in particular is a CPRG gem, excepting perhaps asking Rymrgand why he's a jerk (and even that's in character for some people). Way better handling of the gods, the overarching plot and overall deeper writing in my opinion, and combat is actually challenging. -
In said ending, when you ask Eothas to destroy Eora you basically break his positive outlook on kith with that demand, which then somehow infects the adra pillars when he destroys the wheel; It's a bit of an asspull, but it's not due to Eothas being more powerful than the other gods, or any god being capable of the feat

Pathfinder Kingmaker is bigger then Deadfire
Taevyr replied to no1fanboy's topic in Computer and Console
Glad to hear it'll probably be a gem in 6 months. Now I have a reason to put off buying it until I can afford the time. -
Overall, I fully agree with what Algroth said on this. BOW, Nemnok, Deadlight and Oathbinders' sanctum are all enjoyable dungeons in my opinion, even with the (in my opinion) sorely missing resting mechanic. Sure, there are no Endless Paths, and I'd love to have another Durgan's Battery, but it'd be lacking an important part without proper resting mechanics. Shorter dungeons with inventive use of gameplay elements or multiple resolutions are a pretty good replacement of these, and Deadfire certainly delivers on them. Though I wouldn't mind to have a classic, lore-exploring dungeon crawl when Forgotten Sanctum hits. The last ones that really scratched that itch for me were The Descent in DA:I and Tyranny's Oldwalls.

yes obsidian's try to make the relationship go up looks more natural and dynamic but it blow up in their face just make it on a simple number system like dao maybe better I vastly prefer Obs' more personal system to the DA numerical slider, but the stock reactions and lack of nuance to some traits, such as Eder's anti-eothasian bias, need to be revised. They could hardly tailor the reactions for every convo individually without inflating the budget and delaying the game for several months at least, but having a few possible stock reactions to avoid these problems could help a lot. For a first try, it's actually worked out relatively well in my opinion. As for Romance in general, I think they did the best they could without making it a full dating sim or writing the equivalent of a visual novel, and they may be better off leaving it out next time. We can't expect to have the visual elements of a Bioware romance in an isometric setting, nor do they have the budget Bioware has for their games. Also keep in mind that Bioware clearly focuses on companion interactions over plot/quest writing, as their recent games like DA:I show.

Yeah, that has more to do with the constraints of the reputation system than the writing, similar to how Xoti used to laugh out loud when you burned dead Dawnstars as it's her stock reaction for large approval. Edèr in particular is tough in that regard, especially as his view on Eothas can shift quite a bit depending on your watcher's choices and opinion. Hard to do within such a rigid rep system.
