I'm interested in the supposedly beefed up storytelling. As addictive as the gameplay used to be, I don't think that alone can do it for me anymore.

The 'experiment' is based on a regular guy eating regular McDonald's food everyday. It's relevant to vast majority of badly overweight people who mostly eat the same way - not McDonald's specifically but same crappy food. McDonald's food = burgers and fries. That's what McDonald's is associated with, that's the food they promote. Eating regular McDonald's food makes you fat in a sense that it packs an insane amount of easily absorbed calories per small easily consumed meal and poor nutritional value - which makes it a great deal easier to overeat. By comparison if you eat healthy food exclusively you could end up stuffing yourself full and still get less calories than in a portion of fries. For 90% of people who are not going to count calories and watch their metabolism (eating few large meals slows it down, eating small portions often speeds it up), just eating healthier regularly on a long term basis makes all the difference. Plus. Yes, there are other nutritional factors that affect your body composition. Not just calories in vs. calories out.

I think what he said is so out of line exaggerated (I'd say straight misleading), that his, "Oh. I apologize, sort of. But Mass Effect is still offensive," just doesn't do it. Mass Effect "sex scenes" are no more offensive than your average tv commercial with some girl in a bikini.

I think generally anything with stats is considered RPG. While interactive dialog, story and nonlinear plot progression, by themselves are viewed more as adventure game elements. But as someone said it's pointless to argue about definitions. You like what you like and it doesn't matter how people define it...

It also depends on how the lengh is achieved. If it is 50 hours of repetetive dungeon crawling... bleh... There is no reason to have 4 levels of identical dungeon filled with nothing but combat ala Diablo. NWN1 had this problem on more than one occasion. By all accounts NWN2 will focus on story and characters more.

STALKER people are just over ambitious. They had a great engine with physics and nice graphics. But they wanted to build a huge fully explorable world, freestyle gameplay, unscripted AI and blah, blah, blah.... It's just too much ambition. They should have just made a story focused FPS like Half-Life. Now their game already looks outdated.
