"IT'S TRUE! IT'S TRUE!!" -
The BEST 3 RPGs you have ever played
SonicMage117 replied to IamNOOB's topic in Computer and Console
Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen - The best combat seen in any rpg period. Defies D&D system so that also makes it a better rpg. Change your class at any time, limitless replayability, tons of content and fetch quests! Make sure you carry a lantern with you at all times, if you get stuck in the dark without one at night, you're pretty much doomed. Pillars Of Eternity - An rpg founded upon religion and demonstrates what religion does relatably. As religion brings people together in real life, so it does also in PoE. And then like in real life, nay sayers will manipulate religions to be evil and not realize their unbeliefs are still beliefs which dictate their own personal mindset into religion and confusing others, savvy? And like that, a war was started and in PoE's case, an equivalent to the roman crusade but of course with dragons and the like. As someone that hates religion and seperation of people, it was nice to see an elegant truth on the war of religion vs anti-religion theology and psychology. Cleaver! Kotor 2 - A more "mature" story than the previous two I've mentioned and perhaps Obsidian's finest work still this day. A vast journey which spans the galaxy, combat so easy a monkey could finish this with his eyes closed. Great casual rpg with great story... what could be better than that combination? Nothing. Pyre - Perhaps the first game we ever see that dumps rpg combat on it's head by replacing combat entirely with a "sport tournament" that affects the storyline at every turn. Basically you're exiled to a land of exiles and the grand prize wins you freedom to go home, pardoned but even more importantly is that you are in charge of others fates as well. Who will stay in hell, who will go back to normal lives? It's all up to you. And the music is phenomenal. Transistor - DrakanOrderOfFlame: "There's no such thing as an 8 hour rpg that has as much depth and lore as a Final Fantasy or Baldurs Gate game" SuperGiant Dev: "Hold my beer!" Transistor proved everyone wrong, got rid of needless side-quests and filler, gave us something a bit more. Quite the feat when an indie dev can do an 8 hour rpg that challenges AAA nostalgia and bring it to its knees. The Witcher 3 - It looks good, it plays good, it sounds good... IT IS JUSTLY GOOD! The Witcher 3 is an easy game to love and with good reason, there's so much quality in every department. While the prequels were hit and miss in different places, The Witcher 3 is the accidental prodigy who said "This is me, F you if you all don't like it" packaged with a "Thank you for your support" note from the dev. And it works. And couple that with dlc that add 40 hours of gameplay and you have a winner at any rate. Costume Quest 1&2 - Well uhhh, they're amazing so yeah and I'd like both ported to android phones. They are filled to the brim with Schafer's charm and a delight to explore. Every quest is a fetch quest - literally, every one of them but none are boring so, you could say they handle them better than other rpg's? That's the basic gist.. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. Wall-E even agrees with me on all these finely executed points Edit: I just noticed that all mine are newer rpg's... what a surprise -
Dead Rising 4 still and started a new playthrough for Kotor 2 because I am in a Star Wars mood, lately, for whatever reason.

It seems the game was originally intended and designed for use with a controller, it always strikes me odd that people expect a pc port or version of a game to work perfectly with mouse and keyboard (just because it's available for pc users) when it was created first and foremost with controller in mind. Playing it with a Xbox 360 controller, everything makes much more sense. I mean, I know some pc exclusivists are the type to say "Get you **** right on keyboard and mouse or don't give us the game at all" I see this on plenty of reviews of games I enjoy with a console device but to be honest, I've never found them to possess the correct mindset. For Fable: Anniversary in particular, even the main menu makes it easy to tell that it was meant to experience with a controller so I can understand it feeling foreign/alien to keyboard and mouse exclusive users. I think the new reshading/lighting is the best thing about the Anniversary edition since it enables you to see little details you couldn't before. Unlocked framerate is also a great addition. I play it in 4k and there are more colors than playing it in 1080p, the colors basically pop out of the screen, makes me legitimately feel bad for the old folks who are still "stuck" with a 4:8 trinitron/crt monitor and wonder why their eyes hurt. -

Rise Of The Argonauts. Sadly, it's a severely underrated and underappreciated gem, storytelling is up there with the most coveted rpg's but it never got the attention it deserved. It's super cheap. -

Steam's Bug Picture's U.I is pretty new and I like it more than Galaxy. I haven't had a problem with it, I use my Xbox 360 on pc more than keyboard and mouse though. -
My favorite from Ubisoft will always be their Rayman games :D I hope they remaster the first 3 and make a new one as well. My other favorites are Watch Dogs, Child Of Light and Child If Light. Couldn't care less for their Rainbow Six stuff or their racing games. I haven't bought an AC game since the very first one on PS3 (still got it). Only since Origins has AC really interested me again. Then there is the cel-shaded Prince Of Persia which is underrated. Far better than the older ones.

Much better than the orignal release. The only thing bad about it is the faces of the little kids (in some people's opinion) other than that nothing bad can be said about the remaster since literally everything is better. -
Well I've never played a Castlevania game (except for the 3D ones - which were awesome!) or Super Metroid but the vast majority of retro metroidvania fans agree that Hollow Knight is the best Metroidvania game ever made. The Dark Souls like combat is undoubtedly Dark Souls-ish - the developers even stated this. The map in Hollow Knight is the largest 2D hand crafted map in existence. It puts even the best proceedural generation to shame. Even veterans still get lost. The OST... well I am just going to stop because I will probably just look like I'm biased but really, it's a game that deserves the hype but I have nothing to compare it to since I've never played a Metroidvania other than it.

Okay... I can't imagine anyone saying this looks bad. Correction, there's always someone. I can't take anyone serious if they say this looks bad.

Sometimes publishers request that their games go on sale or recieve discount regardless of sales. Doom, The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein sold very well but they were literally 50% off within 2 months of release. Bethesda's way of doing things? Same could be said for many other indie/AAA titles. I guess if you make enough profit, you can cut the price, if you're doing poorly you can cut the price too. The worm eats the apple inside and out both ways. -
Me either, by the time I decide to buy a team based mp game, the veterans have memrorized every map, picked apart every detail and since mp games don't do matchmaking well anymore, in general, it's not very welcoming to a newcomer. Also I enjoy playing at my own pace, just doesn't seem possible with mp games at any rate.

Around 20 euro. Ahhhh in that case maybe Tales Of Berseria or Stardew Valley. Steam sale is great right now -
Which games have aged well in your opinion?
SonicMage117 replied to Katphood's topic in Computer and Console
I'd have to disagree with that. Not only have the graphics aged horribly in the original Tomb Raider trilogy but just about everything. The cgi's are a mess, combat is wonky, camera is hell and the animations are probably among the worst in gaming. The remake fixes all those issues but if you must hate the remake, at least do yourself a favor and get Tomb Raider Anniversary instead which is a literal remake of all the best parts of the old trilogy by Core Design. -

Actually the discounts on this sale are much better than the last seasonal sale, but there's alot of good games on sale. Add to that all the efforts that Steam puts in their sales that nobody else does. If I must describe it further I will, though as Majestic said, it probably won't matter much since the majority of users here don't like Steam anyway hehe -
I will probably buy a couple today (Steam sale is live)

Steam Sale is on and it's another phenomenal sale. Sad to see all the hate going for it but... we are in 2018 and people will even complain about free stuff at this point so. Not surprised lol -

Platformers age the best, along with puzzle type games. No contest there really. Any type of game is rightfully debatable. -

Those strategy/rts games that have been mentioned here and IE games are generally ugly (no offense). While it's not about graphics, I think they've aged badly considering, and all these titles were very impressive during lainch. Final Fantasy and other rpg games (whether 3D or pixel art) have also aged horribly as well as 6DOF games such as Descent and Star Wars X-Wing/Tie Fighter with visual artifacts at every corner. When devs feel they must remaster, it only confirms my intuitive nature. Anybody play Starcraft? A perfect example of how a game aged negatively in 5 years. Look at The Sims which leads a similar path. I'm going to name the titles that will and always have aged well: Mario, Sonic, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, PAC-Man, Galaga. Regretfully it's not what I or anyone else likes but what was developed well to stand the test of time. Just giving credit where credit is due -

SonicMage117 replied to Katphood's topic in Computer and Console
Are we talking about popular franchises? Or unpopular as well? How old/new is the limit set for answer? To be honest, alot of pc games in the mid to late 90's that used 3D polygon tech has aged poorly. What we thought to be impressive back when, is now pointy with severe breakup, aliasing issues (even anti-aliasing agp's couldn't fix) and poor framerate. Consoles may have suffered the same fate but optimization and texture work for consoles was far superior and there are plenty of examples to prove that. One being the Legacy Of Kain series. Which ones have aged nicely? I put my money on 2D games, ones that weren't too ambitious or do not possess odd mechanics that don't nake much sense. There's something to be said about 2D games that have nice art and are simple enough for any generation. There's a reason why games like Candy Crush never age poorly, they just stayed revered classics, untainted by nostalgic fan pressure and that's a beautiful thing - when a franchose can be preserved. -
Yes, you're right. Did you play the demo on Steam?
-
It seems to be an arcade game but looks better than sims... 2D platformer with colorful backdrops, I want it!
-
I don't take it personal lol I'm used to it on Steam and Facebook as well. I just laugh and continue to stand my ground, as always. This isn't a huge deal to me but I always found it strange how I become the blame of the thread going off topic when the other side is throwing multiple comments and encouraging me to defend my viewpoint (as if I had to)
-
It's not that 80's and 90's games weren't personal, it's as I said, developers are putting more of their own personal issues into their games. This is inarguable but look at the forum we are on. It's going to continue to be pick on SonicMage day, for it is written I'd pity the poor soul of a brand new member with the coursge of coming here and pointing out everything wrong with an Infinity Engine game hehe They'd be right, of course but this just isn't the place to do so. And I shall give you dominion over every creeping thing that creepeth, and every thinging thing that thingeth. Thank you, the thread did get a bit creepy for a bit but I was happy to see that the mention Taylor Swift got upsetted everyone's skin that much lol
