I know. I was playing through HL2 firing cinder blocks at people a few hundred yards away and "jumping" cars and all I could think was "Why wouldn't they let me do this with my hands? This sux!"

I have no idea why some tracks cause the game to crash. The tracks that I use are varied, but I've found that anything of Tri Repetae++ by Autechre works, anything off of With Teeth by Nine Inch Nails works, and anything off of Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 by Aphex Twin works. The Autechre stuff is the best, imo. Bronchusevenmx24 makes the perfect Downtown theme.

Some tracks work, some don't. There's some distinction I haven't uncovered yet.

That seems to be the way it is throughout the industry, these days. Didn't MCA write something about how designers were expected to be competent in something other than straight design? Programming, etc.

Can you explain your statement? I think he's saying that preventing another 9/11 has less to do with getting out of Iraq than it has to do with tempering world opinion. Which is a fair point, since it's not like all the terrorists decided to congregate in Iraq, but it doesn't bring us any closer to figuring out exactly how we're going to get it done. Our position as the world's only superpower limits our ability even without the Castros and Chavezes and Ahmenadihadimejadads directing their countries' suffering and anger onto us.

It could be done better, but as it stands, Faerun's got a hell of a lot of backstory and detail on a large scale that would be hard to replicate in a new IP. Any new and unfamiliar setting has a good chance of feeling generic in comparison.
