Should I buy a ship?
Casper replied to Flaboere's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
my first character used the galleon, both broadsides had 2 batteries of royal bronze and wyrmstongue, the wyrmstongue's range was 0-400m and the bronze 150-400m, those royal bronze cannons do what... 8-11 damage with 4 rounds reload (iirc), and the wyrms did 6-9 with a chance to light stuff on fire, with a 5 round reload (also iirc). served me just fine. with blackwood hull, and storm... was it stormchaser sails? storm-whatever sails. had no issues. -
i've been playing for quite a while after i've finished her personal quest, and it seems she's gone quiet in combat (i can still talk to her and all). i don't hear her lively banter/laughing as i'm using her to cut my way through hordes of enemies. i really miss that. has anyone else noticed that, or is it just me? and is that a consequence of completing her quest? i guess it would be... so sad. ---edit typos shouldn't type when i'm half asleep.

To the extent that abducting an orlan baby to avert her sacrifice, bringing her to your castle and then later to your pirate ship can be described as 'realism', it is a good thing about the decisions you make in PoE 1&2. All solutions are imperfect and there are tradeoffs to consider. can't recall atm, but was there an honest conversation reply that went something like... "you're lucky i just happened by, if i hadn't been strolling by just now... your chieftain would be slurping vela soul tonic right now. i doubt abandoning her to you would be a kindness." or some-such? ps love the toshiro mifune portrait. -

A little addendum to the above, here is a screenshot with some triumphs on a Dhow. Triumps.jpg Hahahaha. Okay, so you don't lose reputation for attacking ships. I tried to justify this with dead men tell no tales. However, this assumes that all the following keep perfectly quiet: 1) Every bounty hunter who asks you to sink a ship. 2) Your crew. 3) Your companions - some of whom are heavily biased towards factions. And on top of all this, you are now PARADING THE TRIUMPHS IN THE DOCKS? Some people have asked if they could make all the factions unite. Perhaps they could - against the Watcher :D iirc, those are legitimate bounties... meaning that it's perfectly legal to attack said ships if you're a legitimate privateer (which in most cases you are, working as an agent for figures in authority, in some cases with official documents even saying so). if anyone threw a hissy-fit over your actions, they'd likely be seen as supporting criminal activity. though, that doesn't explain any of the other ships you might sink that aren't bounties. -

my... lets call him, um... somewhat benevolent, ex-mercenary, trying to get along without leaving a path of corpses in his wake (and doing fairly poorly at that)... um, where was i going with this? right, he figured it was far safer killing her "grandfather" and company, and absconding with the kid... as everyone there didn't seem willing to do anything about granddad sacrificing her in the first place. Kel (my character) simply couldn't trust leaving her in their "care", as even the one person against that little baby sacrificing ritual wasn't prepared to do anything himself, personally. -

when in the inventory menu, there are a pair of small buttons under your character's portrait, one is for your character's ai, the other one resembling the bust of a figure, that one allows you to change the portrait, you're character stance/pose, and sound set too. ---edit can't recall if that can be done elsewhere ---edit again ok, been playing poe1 lately, in poe2 both button icons look like severed heads... the one without gears in it. lol -
so i use this spell with aloth quite a bit, and after the last patch or there abouts, i've noticed the missiles no longer strike secondary targets. now how to reproduce this bug? target hostiles with a wizard using bounding missiles... ---edit well, now it seems to work some of the time, when enemies were very close together. was the secondary range reduced a significant amount or something?

funny, figured that pike would float... -
It is on the ship menu, the weird icon under your portrait. No stars is unskilled, one star is novice, two stars is journeyman, three stars is expert, four stars is master, four stars with a large center star is legendary, and at least for captains there is a sixth rank that is a large blue star with five small green stars. Let's call it Legendary Master Captain for now . to my best recollection, my character has a green star surrounded by silver ones as her captain's rank... or am i just remembering it wrong? though i'm pretty sure i'm not.

I did... she give you a sword . There is also another one with brigand burning houses and you can chase them . i actually got both. i do wish there were more of those little tid-bits. i've also killed a few of those spiney shark deals out at sea too. what i'd like is a few randomly spawned pirate ships or treasure ships to hunt every so often. for us pirate hunters/privateers. after, what thirty or so naval engagements there don't seem to be any more pirates left. *sigh*

i usually get a bit more complicated with my custom names... usually something like female_elf_custom_redhead2_lg for example. helps keep my portrait folders in some kind of order. -

It's not always due to range, it's also due to the wind. What you should do after turning (or after a jibe) is to hold position for one turn. Or even "brace" that'll stabilize your ship, and if you're in the range of those cannons, it SHOULD be 100% hit rate. i guess it is worth noting a lot of cannons have a minimum accurate range, closing beyond that impacts accuracy negatively. -

first, you usually have to name them properly, then you can drop them in to the... \PillarsOfEternityII_Data\gui\portraits\player\male or female folder -
i happen to like a rich mix of accents in "some" crpgs... likely this is one such title. i guess living in a bit of a melting pot helps keep the sensation of varied accents from getting annoying. lucky me. i grew up on the east coast, however i've lived out west the last years 20 or so, so i've heard a lot of varied american accents. though, i've never heard one that was actually painful, so to speak. so, i'm fine with all kinds of accents in pillars. as the world seems to be a bit of a melting pot itself. ---edit typo

i'm quite happy with my fully upgraded galleon (called it Iovara's Defiance), 2 batteries of royal bronze, matched with 2 batteries wyrmtongues per broadside. both cannons fall into the same range, so they work well together. -
from what i gather... souls were being created or born before the gods were created, and a few are still created naturally now, though because souls are being reintroduced by the wheel the need for fresh souls is lessened, and nature adapted by reducing the creation of new souls to avoid over-saturation. so instead of new souls being constantly created, living, dying, and then moving on to wherever, you have the souls of the dead being stripped bare, likely the extra bits are what is consumed by these gods, then the cleaned souls are redirected into their new bodies. i just wonder what happened to all that leftover soul energy as it's not being used for soul creation? ---edit as for why bother destroying and remaking the wheel? well, as it's been stated, the gods are munching on small bits of soul energy as these souls turn... slowly souls will deteriorate and to top it off... the gods are still getting their supper. i say it's about time we sent them to their rooms without dinner, as i think they've been misbehaving the last few thousand years.
