Yeah, it'd be nice if it provided a small bonuses to all other crew on the ship or something similar. then it must not work all the time... there were a few occasions when at max captain rank with a faster ship versus a vastly inferior captain, i still didn't get the wind advantage. though it didn't seem to matter as i had better cannons, and gunners.

i can't recall... but in the first game, was there an option to absorb the lost souls yourself? i honestly can't remember... i mean that sounds like a logical option, though i can't recall if i've seen it. which is sad as i've played pillars 1 four times to completion, you'd think that would be something i'd remember? ---edit looks like my question was answered. lol

Deadfire vs Tyranny
Casper replied to rone's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
i've played the original panzer general as well as the rest of ssi's 5-star line up (allied general, pacific general, star general, fantasy general), i've played panzer general 2 & 3, and panzer general 3d, i've played panzer commander... not sure i've heard of panzer corps? i'll have to look that up. only played panzer general from 2 onwards. But did really enjoy still play them all. As for panzer corps its modern version of panzer general and I very enjoy it gog have it and all DLCs cheap currently. Panzer corps Afrika corps Russi corps 39-45 as geman Allied corp 42-45 If very like that type game might also enjoy Order of battle world war 2 i'll have to keep my eyes open next time i have some spare cash. ---edit looks like i've derailed yet another thread *sigh* -

when you have a mage casting a spell you'll notice a small spell icon now on the battlefield (at least if you have the mage selected), if you click and hold that icon you can reposition it within the mages range. also there's usually a little micro icon above the spell being cast (think it's says retarget, though can't be sure bout that bit), i believe clicking on that may also allow you to reposition the spell target space. ---edit figured i didn't have to say this (but why risk it if ya don't have to), it doesn't work if the spell has already fired and is currently speeding to it's target. you can retarget it up to the point it has finished casting and is unleashed, but when the spell is airborn it's gone. ---edit again (figured visuals wouldn't hurt, just had to go in game and find a fight first) clicking the little icon and dragging it to a new target will retarget the spell i guess if there's a lot going on selecting the spell might be a hassle, so hitting the little button icon here will select the spell icon thing for you... i think (i haven't actually used it myself)

i got used to playing chess, and old school strategy games. so basically i strategically position my party, and make all my initial moves at once, adjusting for time, as it might take longer for my melee characters to get into striking range, when compared to my mage casting spells or my ranger sniping. in the original dragon age there was an achievement called tactician. to earn this you had to eliminate 250 enemies without any of your party members taking damage in the exchange. i miss achievements like that.

Deadfire vs Tyranny
Casper replied to rone's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would disagree. I mean, in Tyranny, if you *aren't* going with the Rebels or for yourself, your choice is basically between a horde of rapist murderers, or full-on Nazi's. Both of them seemed straight-out evil to me. the disfavored didn't really seem like the nazi party to me, though i guess in retrospect not that far off the mark, however, i guess your comparison was more of the disfavored being the Waffen-SS? that fits better imho. To some extent, except that the Waffen--SS would actually accept volunteers and conscripts, where as the Disfavored will not take anybody who is not from from the North and preferably descended from one of Graven Ashe's original soldiers. Several times it's mentioned that one of the Disfavored's favorite tactics is actually to roll in, conquer the area, and if the place is small/unimportant enough round up everybody and just slaughter them. Barik in particularly is super open about the idea that everybody who is not a Northman is inherently inferior in every metric and can never perform up to the standards of the North. to the best of my recollection the Schutzstaffel (SS) didn't accept non-germans/ or those germans with "jewish features", unless in the latter case there was a large amount of data supporting their lineage. ---edit i should note that in anther thread i mentioned back in high-school i wrote a well researched paper on fascism, nazi germany was a fairly large chunk of that, and combined with my love of panzer general, and similar games from ssi it stuck a bit better then most of the assignments i did in highschool. The volunteers and conscripts weren't considered "part of the SS" but were called "foreign nationals serving under the command of the SS". It's the defining difference between an "SS Division" and a "Division of the SS". Regardless, their were entire units of volunteers and conscripts of non-German origin serving militarily for/under/in/however the SS. However you want to slice it, it's farther than the Disfavored are willing to go--the only non-Northman they'll take are menial laborers they treat like slaves. i hadn't heard that before, odd me being a bit of a WWII enthusiast myself and all. but, i'll take your word for it. -

Please replay Pillars 1. Apart from the 2 Avellone-companions no companion has more than 5 3 minutes of dialoge and and 1 shallow quest. While I really dislike the Deadfire-companions on a character-level, they certainly don't have less content than the ones from P1. Which doesn't mean it's much either. not sure where i stand in this particular fence. though i guess you could say standing on a fence is never a good idea.

it's not so surprising that most of the people in deadfire are multilingual, back before radio, television, and computers... people actually decided to go out and about, picking up and reading books, learning an interesting trade for a hobby, or picking up useful languages, if for nothing else to pass the time, as there wasn't much more to do but work, eat and talk way back when. now, the deadfire itself is a sort of battleground between 3 civilizations, the Vilain Trading Company, the Royal Deadfire Company, and the local Huana (wasn't the leading tribe itself called the khanga or something? i have no idea how to spell it), so multicultural melting pot to boot, no?

i couldn't wait, so i've been playing since launch day. and yes still lots of bugs, the relationship & dialogue bugs are everywhere, but i still have to say, all things considered i'm still having fun. though i am constantly temped to put down PoE2 and go back to skyrim & fallout4 for a few months to wait for fixes, but i usually just plug back into deadfire anyway.

Deadfire vs Tyranny
Casper replied to rone's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Which is a shame. I would drop $250 on Tyranny 2 Collectors Edition in a heartbeat. Im just hoping a Post Apocalyptic CRPG gets made by Obsidian. People always remember Baldur's Gate/Planescape Torment. But my fave CRPG and Top 5 GOAT will always be Fallout 2. Black Isle Studios made that game and Obsidian rose from those ashes. They could base it on GURPS like it was originally intended. It would be perfect too since Josh wants to work on something different. i'd be more than ok with this. sadly i missed fallout 1 & 2 so it would be nice to run my fingers over something similar but modernized, technologically speaking. and with the obsidian label on it, i find it even harder to resist. -
That's just absurd. Companions are the main appeal of party-based RPG's. It doesn't matter how much they cost, any Pillars game without "full" companions would be a stillbirth. i agree that a pillars game without full companions would have just about non-existent sales... however, i could still see them "streamlining" the available companions to a much smaller selection, and supplementing that with more sidekicks, however horrible that may be.

Update #48 - What's Next?
Casper replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Announcements & News
i'm tired (it's like 7am here), my blood sugar is probably low, and a bunch of other stuff that i'm took tired to go into, and you likely care not to hear. so, i'll say this then hit the sack. a fact is... "in the beginning of the game eder says maerwald's a watcher too, and he's at this old keep". that is a fact (might have been one you mentioned, if not i think that's even correct, well was using it as an example not a fact per-say). saying something like "npcs, they tell you those kind of things all the time"... not a fact, an opinion. i'm done. this just goes round and round. and i'm tired and cranky. The dwarf animancer in the tree in the gilded vale tells you that and more when you talk to her after you had the dream in the inn, you know... the weird dream that should push you to talk to her, did you not talk to her? this is pretty basic main quest info to miss, and i never specifically mentioned that NPCs sometimes telling you stuff was the only way, or even a good way of getting in character info for the main quest. i was just going to drop this argument as it's going nowhere and will continue to do so, but just about every word out of your mouth has been irking me, so here we are. after this think i'm done with this thread. you've made several statements that are fairly similar these ones up here, and you've have basically proved my insult true. if i don't see the same urgency, desperation, and feel the same exact way about every conversation as you do, i've either never talked to key characters important to the story, or have skipped the dialogue completely. so if i don't think like you, see the same conversations the same way you do, or attach the same sense of urgency as you -- i'm either missing key plot elements or i am simply wrong. and just about every point you've made is just an opinion. and you're trying to back them up with more opinions, and trying to pose them all as facts driven in stone.. i'm done with this thread now. bye folks. -

to me at times it felt like the gods were the antagonists in the game. for they seemed to enjoy antagonizing my character. ok, horrible joke... half joke.
