Update #74: The Mob Rulers: Wizards and Druids and our Partnership with Paradox
@ Lephys: I don't know... I generally don't use disintegrate in BG even if it offers insta-death... cause I want equipment. Also, killing traditionally is probably cheaper resource-wise (a slot in BG), less likely to put the mage at risk (if finger of death kind of deal), and... can do absolutely nothing. Enough of a "I have to think using this"...? I don't generally think slot machines allow you to pull odds in your favor. Think of it more like... Pazaak to regular blackjack. All the different options to turn the tide in your favour. But that doesn't automatically mean you win. Maybe Pazaak is a bad example though since I always reload if I loose XD Though time-wise, that's compared to reloading a full-done battle anyway. Again, the 'insta-kill' probably required a sacrifice, like debuffing. Time you *could* have used chipping those 300 hitpoints away. But instead, you chose a different tactic. One more risky. More the power to that person. The one who wants a more balanced and unindependant from rolls chooses tactic A, the one more trying to rely on debuffs and the luck of the roll chooses B. Who are you to force everyone to use tactic A? Isn't that actually reducing tactical gameplay, if your options are THAT limited there's only one route to go. Then it's not tactical at all, then it's just working away the right order. Freakin' MMO "rotation" style. Would you want that. Cause I certainly do not...

Josh Sawyer on dealing with grognards
Hassat Hunter replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)And we probably should give each character after creating a big manual how to defeat them, including stats, all ways to effectively kill them, and a full list of all grognards in the game. This way no one can ever be sucker-punched by those *****es! Except for people not reading the book of course. Hmmm, how to solve that. Auto-open the book. Force them to quit only after scrolling to the bottom?

Small suggestions. Easily implemented ideas, quickfire thoughts.
If I were to make my own RPG I would probably allow levelable weapons (magical of course). They would suck the XP of the player (so instead of gaining 100%, 90% player, 10% weapon). Since PoE has a char level limit, this would allow total completionist to sipher some of that work in their weapon too.

No more GM sucker punches, and the gameplay challenges thereof
Yeah, it's pretty hard to avoid those in the BG games... But apparently, still people need 'you need +X to harm this opponent' spelled out? @ Infil; I think that's the problem really. I can't really see 'sucker punches' being out without making the game a complete snoozefest. I hope OE proves me wrong though.

Update #74: The Mob Rulers: Wizards and Druids and our Partnership with Paradox
Because, as mentioned before, nothing more plays a roll in that dice-roll (like with 'regular combat')? Because killing one NPC ends combat? How often do enemies come solo? Rarely? If so, insta-killing one does insta-win how? I can reload till I get all natural 20's and the enemies all 1's. Is that fun. Should we modify the game just to annoy these players. If they think it's fun, why disallow them? Why suck the fun out of a game to "fix" a non-issue? There will be critical hits. Should we eliminate them too since 'people will reload till they get them all the time and win the battle'?

Hassat Hunter replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)But... but... Triniy. Wow > BG! Cheap MMO tactics! Why Sarex, why? Why wont you succomb to bad gameplay. Why do you insist for more... *cough**cough*

No more GM sucker punches, and the gameplay challenges thereof
Well, we got an Expert mode, sure, we can have a "nanny mode" too... the exact oppositie of ME3's 'Let us deal with that pesky dialogue' it could be 'let us deal with that pesky combat challenge'... If there is a middle-ground, apparently no-one in this thread came upon it yet. I thought BG's did fine, but apparently, as I know learn, it was too much learning involved. You learn something new every day...

What are you playing now
I didn't have much trouble with Expedition. Then again I'm a TBS noob and played on easy. And they might have made it harder since beta (last I played). Canon might be useful for you?

Melee/Ranged is decided by a D20. How does that "elminate tactic"? Please tell me, since I really don't know.

So, the sollution would be "massive handholding"... Somehow I don't see that 'adding to the puzzle' or 'adding the fun'... it's more fun deducting tactics on your own then having them spelled out to you for each and every foe.

The Walking Dead
Well, the ending would be good enough if the season was interesting... but with the snooze-fest it was... it leaves one cold to what happens to the team.

Update #74: Wizard & Druid Reflections
Hassat Hunter replied to Mr. Magniloquent's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)That, or power increases by stats (intelligence?) and items (+x spelldamage). So upgrading isn't based on level, but gear? If increased power is even needed, that is...

Josh Sawyer on dealing with grognards
Hassat Hunter replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I very much hate the notion of "tank, DPS and healer" playing just ONE MMORPG. I really hate to see the same BS in my offline 'good' RPG...

The Walking Dead
Well, I was wrong, zombies can kill someone. Sure, 25 vs. unarmed target. If only Carl's magically appearing (and then dissapearing) uzi was back there instead of at the tracks, they could have saved random-in-the-woods-redshirt. Overall found it rather mediocre, and that for a season finale. EDIT: Apparenly Rick had the uzi, then they switched in one shot (completely what?) before the weapon just vanished completely, and they started using guns instead. What?

Playing other Kickstarter funded games makes me nervous
Hassat Hunter replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Imagine it taking longer, because turn, per turn, per turn, per turn. Hell yeah... (no) (not that big a fan of TB here)

What are you playing now
Not for me (3 hours not enough learning and annoyance)? Add the bad performance (for it's rather mediocre looks especially), oft crashes... and it's an excersize in frustration. I wouldn't have made 3 hours if my GF didn't push me to play more and more till I really ragequitted.

Please make your expansion's story fit within the main one
I can't agree more with Frenzy (bar the romance stuff then). I would like, a rarity in modern days, for the game to be full, a story that makes sense and is complete without the need for DLC (or x-pack) to fill out the blanks. I don't even want a subplot like that, with 'to be continued'... even if I already own said expansion. If they want to add hints in the main game to the expansion... (here it comes) ADD IT WITH THE EXPANSION. Which means adding more stuff to the main game. Which means seeing new stuff in a replay. It's win-win in my eyes.

Hassat Hunter replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)And then turn to anguish when they made it turn-based. Nope, I sure too am glad I didn't back it...
