"Screen" means screenshot, btw. It's lacking. Nope, plenty of games do it, even apparently the Diablo III you so revere. Original Sin too. Dragon Age. That they do it in a bad floaty way isn't exaclty doing away my point, and here's our chance to remove bad floaty and turn it into a sleek bar even more to the left. Looks better, takes up less 'screen' and is functionaly superior to portraits on the bottom. So why the hate Karkarov? What has a side-bar ever done to you? "games with companion or party HP" And what is this then? Project Super Solo Deluxe? Or "have a party of 6" This isn't X-Com or some other kind of turnbased game. You need the info IN YOUR FACE at all times. No time to go looking down all the time. You even say 'that way it wont block your view'... serious? You don't want you ****ING HP "blocking your view"? SERIOUS? You don't want crucial information cause 'it's blocking your view'? What the hell, dude? Also major lol at that they are put top left to 'be out of the way of action' rather than being a quick overview. And then talking about the middle like we're going to place portraits in the entire middle of the screen. What exactly do you think we're discussing here? In the middle of the screen... hilarious.

It's still sad for me to see how much IWD2 looked worse than IWD1. What have they done to the Infinity Engine? It running like total crap on my systems (which ran the other IE-games bar PS:T fine) didn't help either. Sure it wasn't total screen corruption like PS:T, but still... It's kinda sad I don't really remember that much more from IWD2 than that :/

Likewise... actually... my country hasn't ever been mentioned in the old threats... just the overachieving EU. In that case, it was more a "my county/EU sucks more than your country" discussion... and we definitely won!

Considering Ankh 2 (so I didn't bother with 3) and Jack Keane (so I didn't bother with 2) were horrible, I kinda put away Deck 13 as being a generally bad developer. Changed? Or do they still produce subpar games? How did they survive this long?

Russia is free to pay me for keeping my beliefs... I don't mind getting paid for doing absolute nothing. Heck, no one needs to pay me to hate the EU... the EU does it all on it's own. Sure it also sends taxmoney of me and all fellow-EU'ers to economic black holes... so I guess I actually pay them for me to hate them... which makes me hate them even more.

He has SO much power over me, I skip his posts instantly... Wait a second...

And I think their main point is to convey information. And I hope, unlike MMO's Karkarov plays, I don't have to look at a skillbar at the bottom all the time like in The Old Republic. Not to mention the whole Diablo 3, Borderlands or Dark Souls party you need to control I seem to have somehow missed entirely. Odd, ain't that?

Good point, which is why I personally would prefer the L shape... a sleek, small bottom and side... allowing proper character portraits of a good decent size, and not takes up too much space on the bottom. Not too much to ask for no? EDIT: I mean, every single other game knows it's easiest to look at characters in the topleft of your screen, why doesn't anyone told Obsidian yet why that's so?

Okay, for all of you interested, I decided to scuff off my old IWD1 and IWD2 screens and took inventory of screenspace (in pixels). These were made 1024x768. 612k (IWD1 small log) 558k (IWD1 large combat log) 614k (IWD2) While the sides took 50 pixels per bar, IWD2 took 80 pixels more from the bottom to make up for it, and with the combatlog at max, you still had 15pixels more vertical space in IWD1. It looked so much worse... and for what? 2k more pixels on screen. Do I readily give up a bad UI for a guid UI for that? Yes, I do...

You don't think pressing E is more fun than carefully choosing a melee weapon, carefully sneaking up (so not 20 yards away pressing E) and careful aiming? If that's not dumbed down, I don't know *what* dumbed down is. In DX sneaking was hard. In DX:HR even the worst stealth player ever (me) can easily ghost a level.

You could have just said 'no'... -
Well, I wouldn't want ARPG loot. Most ARPG's I play I suffer major loot fatigue... just picking it all up, when my inventory is full (much too fast) I check what's better than my current items (what a surprise, nothing again!) and sell all the useless stuff. Rinse and repeat 5 minutes later. Fun? Not that much. And seems to get worse each new game who wants to trump the old with 'Much more loot!' *sigh* What I suggested before (and is probably unreasonable) was that each enemy that is important, has the possibility out of 3 possible drops (per drop item) rather than the 1. All 3 fixed though. So for example Grug the Goblin chief has as items weapon and ring. So he rolls one out 3 appointed weapons (and carries it during battle) and one of 3 appointed rings. Then next game you might get the same weapon, and other ring. Or both different. And you cannot build yourself for 'I will get the long sword +5 from boss X' and work to that, because maybe he'll have a hammer +5 this time around. But it'll never generate fully random items with such fun stuff as getting a warrior-locked item filled with intelligence.

Mor, did you even read this thread? Also, Volourn will be Volourn. Don't try to think too much of reason behind it, for you shall find none. I still stand by what I said, this sounds like a nice addition, and just turning options on and off from expert mode is like turning Iron Man on and off. -
Okay, did Valsuelm suggested the US shouldn't outsource it's manufacturing to China because of the 'chance' that China will kill them all, and sees that as a major Illuminate plot to weaken the US? That's... rather crazy if you mind me saying so. A really grand war breaking out this day and age seems rather unlikely, since no-one wants the risk of being bombed to oblivion with nukes. In that way, they're pretty good peacekeepers. Of course, only one nut has to go office (or whatever it's called in other countries with nukes) and and actually use them offensively to screw us all over, the dangerous downside. A pleasant thought...

"United States' claims at being a democracy seriously threatened"

@ Sarex; Yup... we've had a large bunch of failed governments here who didn't sit out their time. Everyone pretty much hates the current government (according to polls they will get about 25% of their current votes next election), so next time, we'll vote on other parties. And then later again on these, and it just keeps turning and turning, and in the end nothing changes much. Things executed get turned back, things discarded back on the vote... and this in an about 8 year cycle. :/ -
You're reading me wrong. I said that it if the pro-Russian government is overthrown in favour for another party, it makes perfect sense that the Russians will undo all the bonusses and profits the pro-Russian government had. It's not so much punishing as just not giving the party that tries to eat from someone else's hand the same benefits you used to give the old party. Just... standard politics. The EU and US are trying their best to 'punish', Russia just stopped offering gas at 50%. If you read no longer giving a discount to the invaders as punishing, well... then we're probably done here. Indeed, as the war in Syria moving on besides sanctions, or Russia honing them away proves. Yet, to show their "power" they still demand more sanctions. Come on... read the part you quoted. It's all there! If he just gives the current government the same boni, it's THEM that will look good, not Russia. Just like how the EU thinks they are 'the bomb' spewing billions of Europeans money on Ukraine's black hole economy. The giver is selfdom happy with others doing the giving for them, without reference or agreement that it's not their money they just give away. It's politics. It harms the citizens? Yes, yes it does. I don't like it. We all don't like it. But that's the high-up game that's being played over people's head. And the best the inhabitants of Ukraine can hope for now is a proper victor and that it's over soon, since definitely life wont be easier till then. You're not going to see me be happy that Ukrainians will lose so much more money on gas now. But from the high political level, it makes perfect sense. It's an interesting view you hold on how Ukranians will view Russia if the EU drops the ball. I just don't believe it's anywhere remotely to what will happen. Yup... beats civil war doesn't it? Ideological seperatist movement I wouldn't call it. West and East being majorly different and about equal in population is a little different from a small minority wanting something. It needs to be looked at a basis-to-basis promise of course, but yes, I am of the opponion that suppressing major parts of the population just to hold true to 'borders' while making entirely new countries isn't exactly impossible. Actually, borders and countries change all the time. Because time again and again, it seems just forcing 2 wildly distinct people to leave together only leads to violence. And since the US wants the same for Palenstina, why not here? Israel and West-Ukrain would still be allies. But, yeah, I realise that this is a very idealistic attitude that has not a lot of chance to be utilised in the real world, especially the one filled with power politics. I find it surprising how easy people can dismiss all the images of old woman and men protesting to the West. Russia must be filled with old people they just send over to Ukrain? There's not a chance that people, like, want that? And not be part of Kiev's new regime? But of course, I know you are under the impression that's impossible and really only Russia wants East-Ukrain and everyone in Ukraine is lookign forward to being subjegated under Kiev's new command. One that started by sending out the army on it's people too. And, exactly, why would that be? Since that would suck for the EU, seeing all their money pumped in a black hole just get more wasted than it already was? Why is it so VITAL that East-Ukrain be subjegated, even under force? I can understand the 'don't want' but explain me the 'can't possible happen' part there... Are you kidding me? If they had loyalist troops, they would have send them already. Kiev got NOTHING, nada. They are completely and utterly powerless. And they know it. Their army doesn't support them. Heck, a lot of them even defected. And yet they send out ultimatums. It's sad, so really really sad.

Sadly, not so much a surpise. What doesn't help the US democracy either is that, unlike most democracies, you have 2 parties to choose on. So, what'll be? A... or B? If you dislike A... you got a whole bunch of options. And what if you dislike A, but think B is a bunch of gun-happy warmongering rednecks... well, there goes your choice to choose a government.
