Even stuff got cut or took way too long on IWD/IWD2 due to engine not allowing people to do what they wanted. That wasn't even an "IE-kind engine", that was bloody IE *itself* This is Unity, to make it IE-like, they need to do a lot of modifications. And sometimes one may run to limitations. Or alterations that take more effort to work around then they're worth. The only way to make it true IE-engine would be to use... IE. But I doubt that's feasible or desirable. And even that will probably have limitations on what they have now impleted, and thus couldn't do on real IE. But feel free to point me and Obisidan to the perfect IE Next Generation engine that apparently is around for the taking, but we are too stupid to grasp with both hands... :/ EDIT: Or, maybe, to use another example... think if they made an expansion on KOTOR2 which was pretty much based around the HK-Factory. Now, they had to cut it out of the main game due to time restrains. So this expansion would have to be rewritten entirely. And it doesn't even have to do with engine limitations even. What is written in a book, script, whatever may not be appropriate in actual use. Be it movie, game. Are you going, if a passage from a book is altered to make it better on the screen, also go out complaining "well, if they couldn't make the scene exactly as in the book, they should have hired a better director!" ???

Not really. It's not even Alpha yet, things can change. Not even from a plot point, even from a technical point. You may have the idea the final villain does all kind of cool stuff, and want to build the expansion story on that, find out the engine doesn't support it, and what are you left with... having to re-develop the expansion story *for no good reason* You can write a whole plot around X, then it's deemed detremental to the game and is just from the base game. Suddenly you got this whole plotline which expects you to know stuff which you can't possibly known, and not only the effort spend on X in the base game is gone, but also for the expansion. And that's just a few quick examples I can think off...

Yup, MMO's require significant investment, and in the end the actual development costs may be a fraction of the overal cost. Always keeping people busy. I guess good for them (they have a job), bad for us since they can't be re-arranged to new games, like happens all the time with the current titles. Another reason for us gamers to hate the MMO. If PoE sucks, and that game is good; That game. Like I said, it's hard to choose between RPG and RPG when the likelyhood for both to be awesome or complete total balls is equal, AAA, KS, Publisher, self-made, based for us, based for lowest commoditor all has little to do with it in the end.

Obsidian and the future. What can we expect?
Hassat Hunter replied to Labadal's topic in Obsidian General
I don't really read online game media, since they're 95% utter crap. The offline which you pay for is a lot better, of course they have to since they require a paid subscription, but the difference is so gigantic there's no point to look online. Aaaaaanyway, ventured over to the RPG-Codex (have faith on my soul) and found this gem; Also, I laughed out loud about hoping we go to war with Russia over Ukrain and that means the end of this American-Russian co-operation. Does that make me a bad person? -
They still get better by allowing them to be cast more, in the end even permanent (replacing the sling mages I had in Baldur's Gate). Magic Missile doesn't really need a boost if you just case it indefinitely anyway. I need to remember this post, and quote it to you once after release you're inevitable post appears stating "why are druids even in the game. Wizards do everything they do better."

Depends if PoE is good, and brings back BG2 values. Depends how the AAA RPG would be. If swapping out 1 RPG for the other is a question of "which you prefer" there's very little for me to choose for. Cause it's both the same.

Just read that a leadup is made for Ukrain to join the EU. I just hate it when I am right. Greece+... sure, we got billions more to waste. We're like the US government here after all... Default? What's a default? Who cares about Russia when the West does it's best to destroy itself from the inside, while trying to police the world instead of doing something about that.

Tell me more about the Microsoft deal then... first I heard of it. And Armored Warfare is developed by OE. I don't think "they get paid regardless" is the right thing to say in that regard, plenty of developers went belly-up despite 'they get paid', it just doesn't work that way. -
Check out the GDC announcement thread. I understand it though (and are part of it)... in an era where RPG's are spread wide and thin, you don't want your favorite RPG developer to make MMO's instead.

Deal with Microsoft? Tell me more about stuff you apparently know that we don't. WoT may have made that... WoW also made a lot of money... doesn't mean all it's clones did the same, even if some (ToR) were so expensive to make... -
Yup, someone's vying for a place in ignore lists... Also, we're still with "people voted for LESS content. Wtf?" Haven't we already explained that a gazillion times by now? Are people still thinking more content is free and just plucked out of thin air?

Yeah, the canceled projects... Sure expect SEGA is sad now that Alien: Crucibles was let go, seeing how bad the replacement was which they put effort on. It's not exactly hidden publishers are somewhat stupid... and generally go for easy money (see Call of Duty). It will be interesting to see what happens now the deck of cards has fallen of the once mighty franchise. -

I care most about operations... But that means hanging around on the fleet. Yeah, no... then I can play some other game. Would be great if they solved that, but I don't see it happen anytime soon...- 505 replies

With 2 MMO's in development... the answer seem 'all bets are off now' :/ -
We should go into marketing, you and I

Hmmm, just thinking. Maybe they're just using this as a big test so a next RPG can have a functional MAKO
