  1. It is a far cry from the infinity games of old. It is shallow, almost every single aspect of it except for graphics is badly designed and implemented, the plot is mediocre, the combat and character building systems are critical fails. Not worth even at half price. Play witcher 3 instead, it's the best game ever made
  2. Or simply tie all the mobs in a group together so that if one sees the player, they all see, and all attack
  3. Like pretty much all design choices in POE, this too was a stupid one. Incompetent designers. It's as if they love themselves and their "system" more than they have any idea of what the player experience is
  4. I guess when I played BG I was very young and so didn't consider to cheese the game. Was a fun game. BG2 more so
  5. Remove the idiotic "pulling" MMO mechanic where you approach one dude out of a group of dudes and "aggro" him alone. This **** never existed in BG. If one can see you, the group can see you. It's this and other "for children" design decisions with this game that are simply infuriating. single player MMO with "DPSers" and "Tanks" etc. bull****.
  6. split your party into tanks who will stand in front and absorb damage, and DPS damage dealers who will stand in the back and shoot and cast spells The tanks you put in the heaviest armor and give them minimum STR The DPS guys you give max dex and str, but 3 on other stats, no armor at all for max speed game won!
  7. Because your topic fools people into thinking there is a new patch, nobody wants to answer you
  8. I agree totally, D&D 3.5 was the best, and made for the best PC games of the time too (NWN/NWN2)
  9. The character building and combat system of D&D4 and 5 are much much much much much in every possible way much better than POEs empty promises, so yeah... But it won't be J.Sawyer doing it.
  10. The sawyer system is pure garbage. pure garbage. You have a backline of 3res 3con t-shirt wearing heavy hitters and a front line of high con full armor damage sponges, with a stat system that is both broken, full of dump stats and makes no sense, with might/dex being the rulers of all for all classes. To top it all off, all character classes are as boring as hell when compared to D&D classes with all their interesting kits, specializations, feats etc. For comparison: D&D ranger gets auto-dual wield benefits with levels, basic druid spells, a huge choice of feats to specialize with weapons and fighting styles, an animal companion which he can unsummon, speaking with animals, special perks that allow him to avoid area-damage effects fully on a save, the ability to disappear in plain sight in nature, if high enough hide/move silently abilities, etc, and that is before interesting kits like beastmaster, archer, etc that offer more special perks and specialization. POE ranger has a pet that usually dies and makes him suck at combat, a couple of archer accuracy perks and a shot that slows enemies. That's it. Sawyersystem is full on failure, and ruined this game for me. That and the "cut-paste" enemy groups and infinity
  11. It's not that rangers are just plain bad. It's that they're BORING AS ALL HELL. In D&D rangers get dual wield as a character trait, they can go on and specialize as archers, as beastmasters, as whatever... They get some basic druid spells, they can sneak very well and get bonuses to that later on (to the point of being able to just disappear in plain sight in some environments), after a while they get to completely ignore area-effect damage with a roll to save (instead of just take half damage like other chars). They get favored enemies and the ability to speak to animals etc. THEY'RE INTERESTING CHARACTERS WITH A TON OF DEPTH In P:OE they're... archers with a crap animal and 3con/3res. That's it. Not a single character class in POE is half as interesting as any character class in D&D, and the ranger is where it really shows. Just a bad game overall. full on disappointment
  12. Rangers and paladins suck. They're awful. They're so boring it's mind numbing To have a semi-usable ranger you need to meta the game to **** (take 3s on multiple stats and max speed/might like a munchkin), can't really play a character that can be perceived as "normative")
  13. Instead of balancing all kinds of bull**** spells of which there are 6000, why don't you work on making the actual CLASSES balanced and interesting. Ranger for example, which is freakin boring. Give it some special abilities/spells. Cipher is EXTREMELY overpowered, even with 1/4 focus. It's like a better version of wizard that can keep casting better spells with no pause. etc. D&D is perhaps not the best system (although now it's very good), but at least they've had the experience of many years to discern that some classes are just ****ING BORING, and so ranger has druid spells, etc, many different feats for characters, etc. to make things more interesting
  14. I still think my original fix is best QFT though, the guy who said that POEs stat system fails on everything that a stat system should do in a game. In POE levels are king, stats are practically nothing. It's so difficult to judge any difference between might 10 and might 16 in POE, whereas in D&D the difference is ginormous. That's how you can tell it's a good stat system. Because it freakin matters.
  15. If rangers had the option of unsummoning that godawful pet and investing in interesting CHARACTER abilities, like flaming shot, "arrow to the knee" (haha), split shot, barrage, power draw, acid arrow etc, it would be so much more fun. Also dual wielding
  16. It's not anywhere near the old ones. It's sort of dumbed down for "today's generation" or whatever, where broad appeal is more important than uniqueness or true memorability. I wouldn't even say it's dumbed down, it's just that the designer was not smart or elegant enough to touch on what made the old ones great, and had some really silly ideas of what makes a good rpg (for example in one interview he writes about how the player should be able to wear whatever he thinks looks cool and it'll still be good, because we don't want to hamper his sense of fashion), totally breaking the underlying system. It's not his fault, it's impossible to suddenly turn into a Chris Avellone, but whatever. In the end, it's just not nearly as good. All in all, you could compare it to maybe Divinity: Original Sin, because both have a so-so story, but where P:OE REALLY fails is the mechanics. The stat system, the combat system, everything that is about playing a fun game, is probably the poorest implementation I've seen in a serious RPG, whereas D:OS outshines most other RPGs in that area, making it a really good game
  17. This review is SPOT ON Regarding story, the story of POE is pretty meh. Like the review says, the only motivation to keep going is that you might go crazy, although the game doesn't show you as going crazy, and even tells of other guys who are like you who don't go crazy anyway. it's all kinda meh. Wastland2 has a better storyline. Also meh, but slightly slightly less meh than POE.
  18. This review is 100% correct on 100% of the game. This game is the one of the biggest disappointments I've had, and it's all down to the complete impotence of whoever designed its game systems. The art is nice, the dialogue, the writing, the plot is nice up to a point (sucks compared to good games though), but the SYSTEM is so utterly and stupidly bad that I just can't bring myself to play it anymore until it is fixed ,and of course never buy another obsidian game before waiting a little to see how it's reviewed. quote from the review: "Now consider these issues, play for a few hours, and you’ll suddenly get the revelation that you just keep doing the same **** all over again because that’s really the only way this game can be played, as enforced by its systems. You send a fat dude ahead, gather all the aggro, kill off the enemies that waste their time trying to hit the tank with a gazillion deflection, move on. Rinse and repeat for 40 hours straight."
  19. The problem is that devs, instead of making a GAME like game used to be, where you have to be smart and every game system is important, and there's some, god forbid, challenge,... instead of all that they try very hard to make a game, like this game's designer josh himself said, where you can wear any armor you want and it'll still be good, because we don't want to limit our players' fashion sense Result of this design philosophy: having to create a (crafting) system which you can use heavily if you like it, or ignore completely if you don't like it. Which necessitates making the game very easy, because you want people who "don't like crafting" to get a "warm fuzzy feeling" experience. It's not a game, it's a fashion show
  20. The OP Is completely right. This game exhibits no AI, no combat scripts even for your own toons. Only AI spellcasters seem to have any kind of logic, but their spell uses are probably scripted too, rather than chosen appropriately for a tactical situation. An even rudimentary AI that allows enemies to calculate the cost-benefit of disengaging and selecting a new target would make the game much much better. But also incredibly hectic. It would pretty much cause enemies to ALWAYS disengage and go for the squishy bows/casters... So I suppose it needs to be a little more than rudimentary.. but whatever I don't think obsidian is going to support this game in the same way that other indie companies are supporting theirs, with constant patching and improvement over Steam.. I think they're going to make it "ok", without fixing any of these core issues, and move on
  21. A DPS fighter is a poor toon in POE. The right way to play is very heavy armor tank/s and DPS ranged/spellcasters behind. A DPS fighter will be at the front line needs heavy armor. heavy armor in this game means no damage because it reduces your speed. This was out of some bizzare and silly notion that all armors should be equal in usability and no armor better than another. Idiotic to the extreme, but whatever. If you use a front line fighter without armor you'll die in a second (but have good DPS )
  22. QFT Rogue is better ranger than ranger. Ranger is just crap, which sucks, because my favorite kind of character is the ranger
  23. Why the **** is my ranger getting so crap because his pet is sleeping? it's not dead, it never dies!!! EVERY ****ING COMBAT ENCOUNTER MY RANGER "GRIEVES FOR IT'S LOST COMPANION" which is never lost. This is your idea of a class?!? Please remove this "grieving the sleeper" bull****, give the ranger druid buff spells and special arrows (rangers in divinity:original sin were damn fun), give the pet an amulet slot, and there you go.
