【bug】impossible to finish main quest

Just to clarify, the issue is that, prior to patch 1.03, it was possible to acquire Winds of Steel (Knights, second quest) after having already acquired a second quest from one of the other two factions. If this happened in a save game before 1.03 then another solution is to speak directly with Lady Webb. As long as you've angered one faction that gave you their second quest then she'll let you into the hearings. We're working on a retroactive fix for this (slated for 1.04) so that even affected save games will work as intended but, in the meantime, I hope that the above can help. Jorge -

Thanks for the post and the save game data - much appreciated! Once you've cleared a way for Esmar then he's not so kindly going to give his freedom for the sake of his men unless he felt that something else prevented their escape (e.g. if you had become a new threat). Sleaker, I tested your save game (current steam build, running it on my personal steam account) and it loads without any issues. I noticed the party is on stealth mode upon load, but other than that everything seems to check. Have you tried verifying cache and/or re-installing the game? This is a shot in the dark, of course, but I can't pinpoint what the problem could be simply looking at the file. I've followed up on this with our QA and we are tracking such save games, getting them tested for problems by programming when the issues are not design-related. Maybe that will yield a result soon, but in the meantime I'm curious to see if messing around with the installation resolves the problem. Thanks for your help in providing the save game - it's much appreciated! Jorge

Here's some info on the issue for you guys: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72793-major-plot-progression-bug-act-2-the-duc-invitation/ TL;DR version: We're testing a retroactive fix that we hope to include in the upcoming patch. For now, if you've completed/acquired Bronze Beneath the Lake and Winds of Steel, a workaround entails angering one faction or the other (no need to anger the three of them). In those cases, Webb will let you into the hearings after you tell her that the bridges are burnt with all factions. Jorge

I just wanted to confirm that, yes, we're hoping to fix this asap. In most cases the problem is not dangerous, and can be circumvented as I noted above, but it's still an issue that deserves addressing right away. -

Supreme, I'm looking into a possible issue with some doors not being selectable after the 1.03 patch. It would be extremely helpful to retrieve more data so that we can address the problem right away. If you could post it, I'd appreciate a link to your save game file and its output log. (additional note: I suspect that this problem may be related to Fog of War and its interaction with some systems/save games. A workaround I found in a related save file consists in using the console to remove FoW for the problematic scene (command is "NoFog"). This only persists until an area is reloaded - i.e. the fog returns when loading into any area- but it allows interaction with the problematic door). Staunsager, I'm sorry to hear that your game ran into troubles after the patch - I understand the frustration, especially after having encountered issues before. We'd really like to take a look at this problem and find the cause. Since it looks the issue is fairly isolated, acquiring save game data and output logs may not be easy. I replied to the thread you posted about the issue you experienced. Is it the case that you also acquired Winds of Steel from the CK, then? Also, as I mentioned above, angering the Dozens, in the case you describe (or the C. Knights, if you've got Winds of Steel) will make Lady Webb give you access to the hearings. But if you don't have Winds of Steel active/completed then, if you don't mind, I'd like to take a look at your save game to see what exactly went wrong. Thanks! Jorge

Save game folder should be %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity. Any chance that the saves are one folder up in the hierarchy that you posted? Jorge -
If you've completed Bronze Beneath the Lake, and spoken with Lady Webb in Hadret's House (Brackenbury) then you should have a quest to gain an invitation from the factions (check with Lady Webb about this, in case of doubt). If so, the Dozens will give you their support since you've helped them resolve Bronze Beneath the Lake (you can ask them about it if Webb has told you that you need support to attend the hearings at the Ducal Palace). The quests in Od Nua are not a requisite for this. I hope that gives some direction and that it works for you. Jorge

Detocroix, I tested the save you provided and both companions were standing - all normal. My current build doesn't differ much from that of the 1.03 patch, so I'm starting to consider installation/client issues as a possible explanation. Have you tried this save again after closing the client, or after performing a clean install (it's a bit of a shot in the dark, I know). Keep me posted if any of that solves your problem (Jekeya, if the patch fixed it for you I'd also like to know). Thanks! Jorge

McClure and Sylkk, the 1.03 patch fixes being able to have both quests at once. However, the fix that resolves the problem retroactively (for save games where the quests were already accepted) is slated for 1.04 patch (it required extra testing, as it entailed reorganizing some dialogues' structures and that's something we rather handle with extra care). In the meantime, if you've made either the Dozens or the Knights hostile then Webb will give you the invitation. There's no need to anger all factions for this to happen - as long as you have one of the factions' main quests (the second one they give you) then having made said faction hostile will work for now. In your cases, since you've got the quests for both the Dozens and Knights, angering any of them will make Webb support you in the hearings. Still, this is not the ideal situation until the retroactive fix is tested thoroughly but I hope that can get you going without much RPing sacrifice. Jorge

Thanks for putting the save game file on dropbox - I downloaded it and tested it. Here's the skinny: Since you've already attacked the Dozens and since you had worked for them in Bronze Beneath the Lake, Lady Webb will consider that as having burned the bridges with all three factions. She will get you in. I've loaded your save and talked to Webb. She correctly offers Dunryd Row's support to get you in the hearings. Patch 1.03 addresses the issue of being able to get Bronze Beneath the Lake and Winds of Steel (they should be mutually exclusive) but a retroactive fix for games where the quests were both acquired/completed is slated for 1.04 instead. I hope that helps! If there are any issues getting the invite from Lady Webb then, please, let me know and we'll take another look at that save game. Thanks! Jorge

Attacking any priests atop RH will cause them to remain hostile even if you equip the robes. Having them before hand, however, will let you blend in. For what you describe, it looks like you took the former action.- 1 reply

Have you, by chance, Winds of Steel in your Journal? If so, that may be the cause of this issue. The good news is that the problem has been addressed in the upcoming patch. The bad, well, it's not quite out the door yet - we hope to have it live tomorrow. Muflak, the upcoming patch will prevent this from happening (it can occur when a certain dialogue path with Clyver adds the Winds of Steel quest even though Bronze Beneath the Lake is already in the journal - the quests are supposed to be mutually exclusive).
