  1. Yes, exactly. I think one of the reasons those moments were so disliked at the time is because for the entire first game and the start of the second game, any companion you don't bring with you is a waste of resources to gear up and customize and there wasn't really anything indicating that this was going to change. So most people on their first playthrough were punished pretty hard for for that. If you've put any effort into your companions at all, suddenly it's just awesome that your team is getting **** done to help you out. If they're going to split the party up in places, they should establish this early on.
  2. Hm. One the one hand, I agree, I thought Pillars could have used a few more freaks. On the other hand, the characters from BG1 you mentioned are one note comic relief?
  3. I loved it in KotOR2... on subsequent playthroughs. First playthrough and it being a sequel to the original made me expect that all companions are useless anyway so I didn't bother gearing anyone I wasn't using. Boy did I pay for that.
  4. I can't recall. Did we hear what Xoti's race is?
  5. I was going to consider your valentine to me to be that today has two threads in WoT not about politics but then I made the mistake of reading this one.
  6. Story-wise your character must be fun at parties. In my run Zahua gets to swim in a blood pool, though Some crazy homeless guy started ranting to me about seeing me on fire, so I put him out of his misery. Weirdly, the lady who is the keep at Caed Nua said he was still there, driving travelers away from my property. I'm scared!
  7. Honestly most of the basic fixpacks, restoration mods and tactics stuff I like have been moved over to EE at this point and that's all I need anyway. Most mods that add something are pretty bad, IMO. I've yet to see a companion mod or something that was any good. EE works fine now, and if you don't like their new additions, well, there's about a million mods to remove them. I got what I need.
  8. Yeah, this confuses me. Okay, you've got more choices to make but they're less meaningful. Redundancies are safety nets to protect you from your own screwups. This threads got a weird tendency sometimes of asking for more protection because they're not 'casuals'. I like complexity in my games, but I do want it to be meaningful complexity, not just for the sake of it.
  9. Well that's what the refund is for.
  10. I feel like doing the first part of the classic "I'm the goddamned Batman" rant but I'll hold back. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Je_suis_Charlie
  11. Orlan Cipher. Wasn't that one of the possible companions being thrown around back when Cadegund was still a thing?
  12. How many of those are they going to make? Germany second was the best one.
  13. I suppose another small difference is that even if you retrain a character, they retain the same stats - there's still a degree of risk in any character you start in PoE. I'm guessing you don't like retraining much either, though? Still, I think that the only real thing making your talent and ability choices matter in the long run in PoE is "I don't want to get bored slogging back to an inn / don't want my immersion broken". I mentioned that I feel similarly about how PoE treats Vancian casting - I don't think that "I could continue on with poor skills or refreshed spells, or I could inconvenience or bore myself" is a very meaningful choice. I wonder if there's a way to fix that without heavily penalising poor choices. (On a side note, I enjoy D3 just fine these days. Plus hardcore mode gives enough risk for me, personally. )
  14. Question! How's this really different from retraining? Other than having to slog back to an inn, which you can do pretty much from anywhere in the game anyway, it's just a difference of convenience. Not saying I want the Diablo 3 system, mind.
  15. I already write 100% more than you guys want.
  16. Man, I dunno why, but this one just keeps cracking me up over and over.
  17. Clearly there is but one response fitting. > [grab him by the shoulders] But the codpieces, man! Think of the codpieces!
  18. I liked the first Pirates well enough, but the second and third are true guilty pleasures for me. They have a kind of longest saturday morning cartoon ever feel - a kind of sprawling chaotic saga about gods and monsters that I can't help but respect because of how completely and entirely it commits to its own insanity - they're never good but at least they never played it safe. In comparison, the fourth tried to dial it down and came out seeming much more dull and tired and I'm not confident this one's not going to play it even more safe based on looking EXACTLY like the stuff that came before.
  19. Wow, that joke was darker than they were.
  20. Hope you all enjoyed the nocturnal avian of great quality with the latest superb owl. Long thread overdue for closure because long threads make the forum code get weird. Make a 2017 installment if you guys wish.
  21. It's that time of the week. Long threads make board code go wonky, hence long threads get closed. Open up a new one at your discretion. Goodnight!
  22. In polite society it's customary to tell people when they're filling out a survey and what the purpose and privacy policy of such survey is.
  23. *checks dates* You just welcomed someone who posted this a year and a half before you joined.
  24. I guess one can only hope.
  25. Okay, that's fair. The first half or so was admittedly great. Just surprised me to see it in a top 10 I guess.
