  1. I watched a special on CNN on LucasArt's playtesters. They didn't make any real money to speak of, and they work out of Marin County I do believe.
  2. None of the bands listed so far as modern music are bands that I would listen to. Metallica just played a concert here a little while ago, and you couldn't have paid me to attend. I would have seen Metallica 10 years ago, but that's a different story. I loathe pop music, and rap. And I'd contend that many of the artists I listen to have more lyrical value than many of the artists from the 70's who were praised for their lyrics. Seriously, compare the writing style of the Doors to any number of bands. Jim Morrison was supposedly the greatest songwriter of his era. And I enjoy the Doors, but his lyrics are overrated fluff appreciated by a druggie generation. I do listen to a wide variety of music, from classical, to grunge, to techno. I'll alternate betwen industrial and Tori Amos (who gets a genre to herserlf). Tori Amos did graduate from one of the finest musical schools in the world, but she doesn't read sheet music. She refuses to learn, and played the classics by ear at the age of 5. I'd argue that her lyrics are as poigant as any I've ever heard. There will always be people who express themselves musically, trying to do something different, and sucking in the process. That doesn't mean that all music is damned.
  3. Well Clerks was set in Jersey in the early 90's, and had great writing. So Clerks is in the style of Planescape Torment.
  4. Not quite. I just spent last month travelling around my old home country on the other side of the world. When I got back, it was (or rather is) crunch time at work with some important deadlines for our current project comming up.... That means, for the next 3-4 weeks, I'll just add random (and often completely irrelevant) comments on subjects I havent kept track of I'm jealous. I need to get out my country and travel more. It's good to see you back!
  5. Take another point off the purity score.
  6. The more I think about it, I think the way to handle it is with an event. If hitpoints drop below 10%, a scripted event occurs. The target surrenders. You then either kill them regardless, or take them into custody. They then appear in the cargo hold. You can only have 1-2 bounties in the hold before you have to return to Planet X and return them.
  7. I've been thinking about this. I never said you couldn't steal attribute points to increase force points even more. However, as it stands, we'd have one Jedi more powerful than the rest, though his attributes and skills suffer for it. What does everyone else think? I'm still checking out a place to run the game. Most places I've looked have forums, or you need permission to create chat rooms. I'm looking for a simple chat room with a rice roller we can use.
  8. It's against the law to not dock properly and pay docking fees. Also, theorhetically when you dock, you get fresh water on board, get rid of trash, get new supplies, refuel, etc.
  9. I enjoyed most of Episode 2. It was quite an improvement over Episode 1. If only it had a better title.
  10. I've moved cross-country for employment, and it wasn't even a great job. But it was from Omaha to San Diego. ;P
  11. I didn't see the fallout of that whole storyline, but supposedly there was an actual death in question.
  12. I'm not saying that the media has no effect on us. I just think that our society is too quick to pass the buck. In today's sue-happy world, we're not responsible for our own actions, and I find that sad. Maybe pornography isn't the greatest thing in the world. Maybe it's wrong. But people start needing to look at actual perpatrators of crimes, rather than looking to see what made them do it. As to being desensitized to rape, maybe the fact of the matter is that rape is far more common than many people like to talk about. They say that as many as 1 in 4 women get raped during their lifes times. Either there are several serial rapers out there not getting caught, or there are a large percentage of men not adverse to rape. Is this because pornography programmed those men to objectify women and not see them as human beings, or is it because those men have eschewed morals to begin with? I've seen my fair share of pornography. I have to like the sight of naked women. That doesn't mean I fail to respect women, or view them as mere sexual objects. You take what you want from the experience.
  13. I got over it for a moment. But then all Carth would talk about was how he had to deal with Dustil. The funny thing is that Carth was the one who shot Dustil.
  14. Let's say you've got this big scene, and plot twist that involves Bastilla. So half the people miss out? Or do you substitute someone else? And then does the twist have the same relevance? And if it can be someone else, then why use Bastilla in the first place and create the extra work? You can't hang much plotwise on characters that are possibly dead.
  15. I played LS, and Korriban was the last planet for me as well. But I couldn't get back in the academy without people attacking me, thusly I could never finish the Dustil quest which frustrated me.
  16. I have family members that love wrestling. Occassionally they try to suck me in, telling me what's going on. The last time I saw anything, there was a murder charge on one of the wrestlers for killing another one. I watched wrestling when I was a little kid. Back then it was just cold war propoganda. Now it's a soap opera.
  17. Up until puberty I thought there was something wrong with me. I knew too much about sex, and that made me dirty. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I'm responsible for my actions, and my actions alone.
  18. I think the Geohardan shapechanger bounty was nice. What about bounties that require stealth or costume changes? It would be nice to see, but I doubt it would happen.
  19. It's no big deal. Anything that happened to me in my past, is in my past. I got through it, and learned to be a better person because of it. I consider myself lucky to have seen as much as I have in my life. I have a better appreciation of life because of it. That's largely why I can laugh at just about anything.
  20. One of the problems with expanding the bounty system is that is exposes the combat system. There is no stun setting, nor concussion damage. What if someone wants a bounty alive? Are we supposed to beat them to 10% of their life, and then suddenly they surrender?
  21. Arnofsky is a great director. And it's about time he made a new movie. But he got trapped in development hell on the Fountain over the past few years. He needs to find a way to film it, or move on. And Arnofsky is also sitting on the rights to a Batman movie unlikely to happen, and Lone Wolf and Cub. Who knows what his next movie will be?
  22. While Shrek 3 will likely happen, IMDB has pages up for many movies in development hell. Having an IMDB page doesn't mean a movie will happen. Before X-Men 2 was released, they had a page up for X-Men 3, with a release date. Said release date has passed, and they haven't hired script writers for X-Men 3 yet, nor decided upon a general story.
  23. I just watched a replay of a Larry King interview with him last night. I think Brando was partially insane.
  24. I was never censored or shielded from anything as a kid. I was repeatedly molested at a young age, and had drug addicts for parents. I grew up in criminal surroundings, and watched the worst possible things. I've played violent video games since I was a kid, and had a fascination with porn at a very early age. Despite all of this, I turned out pretty normal. I'm the only member of my family not to end up in jail, and the only member of my family to graduate high school. Environment and media didn't decide how I would turn out. I did. We all make decisions regarding our lives. People like to use the outside world as a cop-out. Can it affect you? Yes, but ultimately it your decision to lead your life however you decide to. I love studies that show child molestors use pornography, thusly there is an inherent link between the two. Pornography is quite popular in this world we live in. It's a huge industry, and child molestors are a small minority in the world. Next think you'll know, people might notice that several child molestors smoke cigarettes and suggest that cigarettes demonstrate a weak moral background that leads to child molestation.
  25. Ender's Game was originally a short story. Then Card came up with this idea for Speaker of the Dead, but didn't have a protagonist. So, he decided to dust off the idea of Ender, and he effectively wrote the Ender's Game novel as a prologue for Speaker for the Dead. As good as Ender's Game is, the story isn't complete. I think Speaker actually surpasses Ender's Game, and may be one of the best books I've ever read. I've never read Elizabeth Moon, but I just checked her out at Amazon.com to see what she wrote. Most user reviews of her books are negative. Maybe I'll check her out, but from the three plot synopsis' I read on Amazon, all her stuff seemed pretty standard fare sci-fi.
