Missing German text
Aurelio replied to Wienerschnitzel's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
----- The latest patches usually are not fully translated and also contain spelling errors and mistranslations. Better use the translation mods. -

Why don't you verify the game cache? If the file is missing, it should be redownloaded. -
OSX El Capitain has broken PoE
Aurelio replied to Kel27's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Well, the hardware is from 2013 but the software not. OSX El Capitain wasn't available when the game was created. So blame Apple / Nvida to fix their software. You can try to get a refund, downgrade your OS or wait and hope that the issue will be resolved with an OS update / driver update. -
OSX El Capitain has broken PoE
Aurelio replied to Kel27's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Wasteland 2: DC uses Unity Version 5.2 and PoE 4.6. Support for Unity 4.6 ends in december. No more patches afterwards to that engine version. http://blogs.unity3d.com/2015/09/16/unity-patch-release-plan/ Obisidan needs to upgrade their Unity version but that's not an easy task and can takes months. And the new version is also not really stable. At least other projects have issues with it. -
The map is not displayed correctly
Aurelio replied to D101101's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Have the devs looked into what the fix is trying to do? See the comments in code: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/dscharrer/void/master/hacks/pillarsfix.c Even links to some bug reports. Might help to fix the issues on PoE side. -
One of the problem is the following entry in gui.stringtable

<DefaultText>,</DefaultText> <FemaleText />
A space is missing after the coma. It should look like this:

<DefaultText>, </DefaultText> <FemaleText />
Many language sets have this issue.

Read the earlier update on Kickstarter about Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey So there are reasons to do the port but it takes time. I guess Obsidan would also need 6 months - 1 year to do just the port and I'm not sure if all benefits would be the same. Maybe it makes more sense to do the switch, when they create a PoE 2 game or what ever the name will be. Perhaps they could upgrade PoE to the latest 4.6.x version. The latest PoE update is still on the patch level of mid may. On the other hand most Unity3D fixes seem more related to mobile devices. https://unity3d.com/unity/qa/patch-releases ---- The reason for this is our long-gestating port of the game from Unity 4.6 to Unity 5.x (we're currently using version 5.2). This upcoming port is important for several reasons: To improve frame-rate and overall performance. To reduce memory-related crashes. To improve our internal workflow with Unity's new 64-bit editor.¹ To open up for ongoing and future improvements to lighting, shaders and effects, and further performance and stability fixes. To facilitate for ports to new platforms, including PlayStation 4.² Although switching engines mid-production is a risky thing to do, during our initial investigation into the engine switch we were quite optimistic about the timeline. The game appeared to run well in Unity 5 and there were no massive issues with our own tools or third-party plugins. In addition, this felt like the perfect time to switch and move the production over to an improved pipeline before wrapping up the final two episodes. Doing the actual port has proved more time-consuming and challenging than expected, however — and of course this is the case, because it always is. Still, we did not anticipate this work to delay the release of Book Four. Why a delay? Due to the way our game is constructed, we've had to port everything. We couldn't just start with the fourth episode and patch the rest later: the whole game needs to run in the new engine. This has resulted in a ton of work for the artists, along with plenty of bug-testing and -fixing. Things like collision, lighting, plugins, shaders work differently — and with every major engine upgrade, there are new bugs, some of which we can't fix on our own. Will the port be worth the wait? We believe so! This was a necessary switch, something we had to do sooner or later, both for obvious performance reasons (we're very aware of the issues some players have had) and to allow porting to consoles and other platforms. How much a performance boost players will see depends, of course, on their specific hardware and OS version. Hopefully it will make a significant difference, particularly to those of you who have struggled running the game. ¹ Working on locations such as Europolis and Marcuria using the 32-bit editor has been an exercise in frustration. Our artists and designers experienced regular crashes and extremely slow performance. The move to Unity 5 has massively improved our workflow. ² A lot of you have been waiting for the PS4 port, and this is not something that was possible with v4.x of Unity. The game is currently running well on our PS4 dev kits, though we don't yet have a concrete release date in mind. We're prioritising Book Four and PC/Mac/Linux first — but PS4 is next in line!

PC GOG version crashes on start.
Aurelio replied to Zizifothsi's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Just a few ideas... if you have any codec packs installed, try to deinstall them, to see if it helps. I also read somewhere, that running a program called "gpu meter" forced the pc to use nvidia card. Worth a try. Maybe it helps also to uninstall the both graphic drivers first, reboot the pc and install them again. The first output_log.txt shows serious errors trying to use the graphic card and seems to use a generic driver. -
PC GOG version crashes on start.
Aurelio replied to Zizifothsi's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Does it create a different error log? The devs should tell if the card listed in the output log, is the card, the game tries to use. Not sure if there is a different way to force the graphic card to use. -

You seem to use your internal graphic card. Card name: Intel® HD Graphics 4600 Driver Version: 9.18.10.3071 Driver Date/Size: 3/19/2013 21:31:46, 8647680 bytes The driver is 2 years old. You can try newer drivers at: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=4th+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+4600 Check my post in this thread: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/82762-pc-gog-version-crashes-on-start/ Maybe it helps to force the game to use the nvida card. -

From the logs it looks like the game is not using the nvidia card but the inten HD3000 onboard graphics card. OpenGL: Version: OpenGL 3.1 [3.1.0 - Build 9.17.10.4229] Renderer: Intel® HD Graphics 3000 Vendor: Intel VRAM: 880 MB (via DXGI) Maybe you can force it to use the nvidia card? Maybe this helps: -
Hab ich gelesen. Meine aktuelle Version ist hier: https://github.com/AurelioSilver/pillarsofeternity-german-patch-with-expansions Eventuell ist es damit besser.

OSX El Capitain has broken PoE
Aurelio replied to Kel27's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Well, give them time. The devs answer quite a lot of questions compared to devs of other games... I play another online game where since 1 month people can not play the game without frequent crashing, having serve lag etc. After 3 weeks of complaining with no feedback about this issue, one dev said they know and we should not bother them asking the same question over and over again. And we only asked because we had no feedback at all... Compared to this Obsidian does a terrific job. -

Ok, maybe this has changed with EL Captain. Then Obsidian has to update their FAQ. May someone else knows where to find the log now. But have you tried to search for it? Hopefully the name is still Player.log -

Why don't you use the How to report an Issue link? Important Files: If the files are too large to attach separately, compile them all in a .zip and make a link to Dropbox with the .zip Attach files that will help the dev team figure out and resolve the issue. These include: Savegames Try to include a save file from right before as well as during the issue you are reporting Mac Location: ~/Library/Application Support/Pillars of Eternity/Saved Games Output Log When the issue occurs, close the game client, find this file, then attach it to your post Mac Location: ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log System Specs This will give us most of your computer specs to help us diagnose the problem Mac Location: Click the Apple button in the corner of the screen, Click "About This Mac", Click "More Info", Copy and paste the Model and Year, Processor, Memory, Graphics, and Software information Screenshots Attach any pictures or links to pictures that can help us understand the issue -
