Agreed on faster and partially on stronger. But 1. you can't really play a character in PnP that is smarter than you, you can just roll a die on an Int or Knowledge check to be given some Insight by the DM. You can't roleplay your character to be smarter than you as a player really are. 2. you can play a character that is more skilled than you in LARP: You can successfully pick a lock for example, disable a trap, brew a potion or some other activity that you couldn't do in RL. (or probably that second point is not true, as I've never LARPed so far) [edit] gender-change is easy

I'm sure LARP is fun - probably one of the few places to find 'real' RP (as you're pretty limited in CRPGs and PnP tends to be relying too much on stats and dice rolls). Unfortunately I'm not that good an actor, lack some equipment, and never found the time (or courage ) to go to one. Btw, I can laugh about things that are funny, even or especially if it concerns a hobby of mine... This one is staged, but I didn't know that at first...

  4. You were one of the people complaining about roleplaying-possibilites in games. So now, how does this build fit that? Ok, you put 2 points in cha and int, but still all I see is "ENGINE FIGHT, NO TALK" written on that characters forhead

Le' rue Delashay - chaos claims the macrocosm pretty strange and scary. i like it
  6. sidenote: You are confusing things: Gromnir the forum-user was actually the model for the son of Bhaal on topic: PnP is in my opinion and experience a bad comparison for a CRPG. As well as movies. You even can't compare an RPG to another RPG, as there are so many ways of telling a story, of giving the player the feeling of playing a 'character' in this story, that all you can do is saying what you'd like to see in an RPG. Some people here are doing that, some others are generalizing, and to those individuals: Let games stand as individually as you do. They can be fun or boring, and it does not depend on single things like story, cinematics, gameplay, graphics, but on how well all elements play together, and on your mood while playing it. If you're tired, then the music of Baten Kaitos will put you in a dreamlike state while keeping you awake with it's fast paced combat, a very cool experience. If you're keen on playing a character of your own design, you'll loath the game. If you're tired while playing Morrowind, you'll fall asleep in no time. If you're keen on playing a character of your own design, you'll probably like the game. Both games gained some critical acclaim in their own right. (I mentioned no Obsidian or BlackIsle games on purpose) What I mean to say is: There are so many ways to design a CRPG that is viewed and enjoyed as a good game by customers, that all one can say is what makes one certain game good or bad for him/her and him/her alone. Don't judge, but be creative, give input and opinions, and hope you'll find some game that suits your current taste in games. After all, one's own criteria for a good game change with time, experience, mood...
  7. Whoa, that's pretty awesome, I think So hovering a foot above the ground could be implemented and used for play (only on a PW, as it doesn't add anything but coolness), as creatures could attack anyone hovering one foot above the ground anyway. And hovering 20 ft. or something above ground level could be implemented for cutscenes, for example... One could design an area with cliffs or a wall that are set to not have collision detection for a cutscene, and let some wizard fly up there (in fact, he would still be hovering above the ground beneath the cliffs/wall, but it would look as if he had flown up there). End the cutscene and return the camera to the player character, facing an identicall wall/cliff with an identical wizard standing upon it... An other useful thing that comes to mind would be fishes 'swimming' at different heights in an underwater level. Could we have any access to controlling character height above ground (or absolute height) inside this cylinder? I'm sure this could be used in many ways, even if it's "just" an animation and not any kind of 'real' flight.

  9. I too really loved the atmosphere in IWD1 (as well as the rest of the game). This might be because of the icy setting, the wonderful music, the narrator, the artwork. IWD2 didn't do that good a job in my opinion (inferior rendering in most scenes, less consistent artwork, far inferior music, lack of very cool plot twist), but it was a tactically challenging and very fun game. And how I like that interview :D
  10. I used pick-pocket with Neeshka only once, and it was successful and very helpful: [edit]added spoiler-tags
  11. Heresy! Please don't compare ugly BG2-Avatars (except when wearing chainmail) to the cool NWN2 dwarves. I really liked those beards, this was a close second to my character generation highlight: half-orc faces. They were just incredibly detailed and so half-orcish I just wish there were one 'serious' looking dwarven beard for an NPC dwarf in the toolset, but for characters, the beards rock imo.
  12. Yeah, but it's not a well-formed sentence. It should either be "Byakuyas Bankai" just like in English but preferredly without apostrophe, or have an article before "Bankai" and no article but a "von" before Byakuya. Right now it translates to: "Yes, it is Bankai of the Byakuya." Ok, that was offtopic... On topic: What are these tubes on your image, Blank?

cool, it's striptease-day today desktop pics, bis-pics, avatar and sig explanations... My avatar is a concept art of the transcendent one, and the sig is from some song lyrics, but it seems to be kind of a proverb. I just like the sentence, it's so... ironic and fatalistic at the same time. Or maybe it's just because it's English and I don't interpret it correctly

  15. many i don't remember, and many x-es that would've been interesting anyway, funny site.
  16. bokishi: is its music as good as total annihilation's was?
  17. What's strange however is that some of the NPC elves do look better (by human standards) than the ones selectable at character creations. Take Elanee's model, Deagun, Moire (I know she's not an elf, but she looks like one)... But in my opinion, the real tragedy are the poor half-elves if only the talented artists (talented judging by how other models look) adhered to the sketches and pictures in the PHB that looked visually appealing... Well, no game-stopper at all, of course. I like NWN2 very much, and I'd even play it as a half-elf (just probably with cha 8 or a skin colour that masks much, like most darker colours )

Kaneda of course. Classics always win Btw, I look at him as manga character as I never saw the anime, and I didn't want major to win, as being cyborg seems like cheating. Didn't know the others... So Kaneda it is.
  20. I like it. Didn't find the 'original' funny, the modern and PW-related one however... :D
  21. Well, have you watched some Character cast a high-lvl Spell (Lvl. 8 probably, Lvl. 9 )? The actually caster hovers above the ground (both feet not touching the ground). As I said above, I don't care if there is no actual bonus and all creatures can attack you as usual, as both could easily be scripted - if only they gave us scripting access to that hover-anmiation...

Bauhaus - Kick in the eye
  23. I don't understand why there can't be a 'hover' spell, just for RP, as casting a Highlevel-Spell, for example, makes your character hover above the ground. Why can't this animation be made for some time longer than the casting animation? One wouldn't have to be able to fly where one can't walk, one wouldn't have to be allowed to adjust the height over ground for the hovering - just a lasting hover-animation for the sake of RPing in Multiplayer. Then there are birds. They have no visible connection to the ground, too. Probably I get it all wrong, but it doesn't sound like 'rewriting the engine' to me, as these things are already present in the engine...
  24. If it's really encoding the mp3's again, then there's a quality loss. Furthermore, that's a feature the audigy does have, too: CMSS, I think it's called there. If you have a nice piece of 5.1 speakers like the logitech z5500, you can activate thoughput (directly output the unmodified digital stream to the speakers to decode - supported by the audigy too), and they will do the job of spreading the sound to the speakers with various dolby-features. Conclusion: There's always something better than onboard sound (just my guess, haven't listend to intel's new solutions)
  25. There is that thing called 'normalizing'
