They'll do all right, it seems. Preliminary benchmarks show a great improvent to the HD3xxx-Series. They'll be mid-range to performance cards, except the next "x2"-model (hd 4890?) that will compete with the 280 (or rather be faster than it, because HD4850 Crossfire apparently beats the 280, with lower costs and less powerconsumption - while of course still using A LOT of current). A 4850 seems to be at the level of an 9800GTX. As said, these values are still to be considered rumors even if the cards really were sold and tested, it wasn't by professionals, and with beta drivers. The 4870 will only be out with the official launch at the 25th, and some people estimate its performance close to a 260.

The brand is good, but you'll not be needing DDR3 1333 or higher, as Intel processors don't benefit from anything faster than DDR2 800 which would cut your price down to a quarter or something like this. This may change with the upcoming Nehalem, so if you want to re-use your RAM, you can invest that money in the DDR3 1600, otherwise I'd say it's better spent elswhere.

Two graphics cards = twice the heat just get some big, slow, expensive fans to create a nice airflow in the system, if the ones included in the case are not good/silent enough. And tell us how setting up the P182 was, because I'm looking into getting one of these too...

Motherboard: make sure your processor fits also, if you want a silent pc check some reviews on power usage, the less it uses, the more silent you pc can be cooled. Same thing is true for every component, including CPU and GPU (making the absurd 1kW PSU even more overkill ), so: The 3850 is good, too, but it's so cheap right now that it can be considered budget-class, and that's probably not what Gorth's looking for. Otoh, chances for it being cooled passively are bigger than with a 3870, let alone x2... Oh, and if you want 8GB of RAM, the mainboard needs 4 Ram-slots. Carrie, the remake from 2002. I don't care if the cgi effects are cheap in such a film, but damn, I hate that setting. It also was too slow for a new movie. And the bastards that deserved the slow death of the soul they inflicted upon Carrie died far to... well, random and physical. To the good things: Carrie was superbly played, mobbed to death and abused by that "christian" mother of hers... So was her despiccable mother and that devilish friend of the blonde rich girl. If I play a Drow, I want to be hated. If anything is forced upon us like the Hunger in MotB, do not frustrate average players with it to make them use cheats. No world destroyer epic final boss. Like in MotB: Ties to the FR and its history, make the unusual stuff seem normal (as it should be for the characters in this world). It would be nice if the revisited stuff like the Crossroad Keep could be integrated such that the choices of a PC in the OC would matter... Well... I'll play it either way, it's just a matter of ok, good or superb

The way things look right now, it may be able to compete with the 260, with a lower price tag, even if nVidia lowered their recommended price today. We'll see on the 25th... All the rumors right now aren't very convincing and quite contradictory, plus, even if any of them were true, all the rumored benchmarks are made with unfinished drivers, and only the usual benchmarking programs and Crysis (plus sometimes CoD4, World in Conflict) are used which doesn't reflect the performance of games I'm interested in.
