It's not that I don't like the look of that Qunari concept art, I actually think it looks pretty good. It's more the fact that it looks nothing like Sten, or those other Qunari mercenaries I fought in DA:O. Combined with the quote about changes to the dwarves and elves, it seems BioWare's doing a lot of retconning. They seem intent on coming up with ideas exclusively to fit DA2, with no real concern about continuity from Origins.

The Old Republic MMO is basically going to be KOTOR III.

That was actually the first thing that came to mind for me as well. Slightly more updated, but still very similar.

C&VG: Sega rules out Alpha Protocol sequel
GhostofAnakin replied to funcroc's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I really don't get the whole "it had a lot of bugs" thing. Did I just luck out or something? I can't even think of one bug I encountered through 2 and a half play throughs. Are people including bad enemy AI as a bug? Sub-par graphics? Some graphical issues? Because unless those are what constitute "bugs", then I'm at a loss as to this supposed plethora of bugs that it had. -
I hope the narrative will be similar to what AP did with Leland. If it is, then I'll be less concerned about that aspect of the game.
-
The more I read about this narrator thing they're going with, the more I'm worried that there's really going to be no "choices" available to the player. No matter what you decide to do as a course of action, the narrator will override it with their own version (ie. BioWare's canon version) of what actually happened ... even if it doesn't mesh with what I did. I really hope they clarify this, because as it stands it sounds like the story will unfold one way and any choices you have are irrelevant after that "mission" is over since they'll be overwritten by the narrator's point of view of events.

I chuckled when I saw that. Dude writes on a gaming site about video games, and he's trying to make himself out to be "cool" because he doesn't know the difference between ogres, orcs, or goblins? Who's he fooling? If anything, it just proves he's a dumb nerd. As for Dragon Age 2, I'm not sure I'm liking the direction they're going. It's early, so perhaps the previews are painting a false or misleading picture. But some of their decisions aren't enticing me to put DA2 onto my "must buy on release date" list. First and foremost on that list is this thing where the story is told through various narrators, who may or may not embellish/lie about events. I might be reading way too much into it, but this almost seems like a convenient way for BioWare to both give the player a sense of "choice" in what they do, but at the same time override those choices simply by having the narrator tell the story the way they (BioWare) want the story to go, and ignore whatever choices the player makes by simply saying something to the effect of "well yes, that may have happened when you played the level, but the narrator decided to tell it another way". Hopefully that concern will be clarified the more information is released.

C&VG: Sega rules out Alpha Protocol sequel

Not if you sided with Leland at the end. -
Maybe it's the resolution on my monitor, but that doesn't look very good.

That's a huge map, with very little of it actually having a description. I've often wondered why huge areas are created but only bits of them fleshed out, rather than a smaller area but with a higher degree of depth. It'll be interesting to see how much of those locations will actually be in DA2.

This thread took on a life of its own. One day I'm reading an argument about the combat system, then I miss a few pages and stumble upon a discussion of incest. I wonder what topic will creep up if I skip reading this thread until the weekend?
-
Hope not. I preferred DA:O's approach to NWN's.
-
I feel like I've just watched an Austin Powers movie after reading through that thread.

Sounds like they're doing with Dragon Age 2 what they did with Mass Effect 2, which is dive even further into the action combat realm. I won't complain too much, as ME2's combat didn't bother me like it did some other fans of ME1, so long as they focus on the story. I don't mind the fact that you can't play as elves or dwarves, but I hope there's still some freedom in creating your PC. I also don't want Hawke to be Morrigan's love child with the Warden. That would be dumb.
-
I do this for my first play through. I'm more of a "story" guy than a "get excitement from combat" type of guy, so I'd rather see first how the story plays out than worry about being stuck at the first boss fight for three days and be unable to advance the story.
-
That's my biggest fear. Something about the stupid AI wasting ammo and never taking cover/retreating when it makes sense to.

For those on here who have played Resident Evil 5, your impressions on it as a single player game? I've heard it's only fun doing the co-op with a friend, but I'd rather play alone.

E3 first impressions
GhostofAnakin replied to funcroc's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
So, it being shown at this year's E3, does that mean it's near to release? Or ... like, when do games get previewed at these E3 shows in relation to their actual release date? -
Where are the dev responses ?
GhostofAnakin replied to poetic obsidian's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I seem to recall them posting a lot more when they were making KoTOR II. -
This thread is exactly the reason I became a console gamer. I no longer have to worry about checking the specs each time I buy a new game. If it says it can play an XBox 360 game, then I'm good to go.

Confirmed: more than a hack & slash
GhostofAnakin replied to Humodour's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
As far as I can recall, Square Enix produced games tend to have strong polish (which seems to be an issue with Obsidian's previous games). So maybe this time that flaw won't be held against them? -
Quick response: Obsidian. RPG. Interesting setting. Longer response: I've followed Obsidian's games since their first one, and have enjoyed every game they've made (yes, even the NWN2 OC). So, I tend to be interested in everything they do, including settings I'm not a big fan of (Aliens). Plus, I like RPGs above all other game types. So I tend to buy all cRPGs released, more so if they have the developer tag of two of my favorites (BioWare and Obsidian). The setting also seemed pretty interesting, since it was an escape from the typical stuff you'd expect RPGs to be set in.

The Conspiracy Against Alpha Protocol
GhostofAnakin replied to Deus Ex Machina's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Like I posted in another thread, but this one might be more appropriate for it: See, this is something I don't understand. Alpha Protocol is being hammered for "retarded enemy AI" (and yes, the enemy does do some dumb things), but yet other games with similarly "retarded enemy AI" don't get bashed for it. Like in the post I quoted, the love for Red Dead Redemption. I played it (even finished with the 100% completed challenge), enjoyed it, and might even re-play it. But I didn't find the enemies any smarter than the ones I've encountered in AP. In fact, I found RDR's combat even easier due to that automatic aiming thing, where I just had to aim in the general direction of an enemy and it would lock on to them. Again, that's not to suggest I didn't enjoy RDR ... I actually did, quite a lot to be honest. But the enemy AI wasn't any better than what was in AP. -

But I didn't find the enemies any smarter than the ones I've encountered in AP. During gun fights, on multiple occasions, the enemy would stand out in the open and fire at me constantly, even though there was cover they could duck behind, and even though I was behind cover and they had no chance of shooting me. Or they'd charge at me for unknown reasons, despite the fact I was in cover and they were wide open for a shotgun blast to the head.
