Nothing but Co-Op
GhostofAnakin replied to Lord Elvewyn's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Hmmm ... finally a roleplaying game that I can play with a buddy. -
I can't wait until they port it over to the 360.
-
I wonder how much less backlash there would have been if DA2 was labeled as a full priced expansion pack, rather than adding the "2" to the name and making it seem like the sequel to Origins?

Nothing but Co-Op
GhostofAnakin replied to Lord Elvewyn's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Pardon my ignorance, but does co-op mean having two (or more) players playing on the same PC/console, or does it also mean being able to play online with a friend on their own system? -
I might be mistaken, but I could have sworn there was a toggle to turn off the gore.
-
What's the point of even playing it if you skip the dialogue and play on a level where combat isn't even a challenge? Those are pretty much the only two reasons to even play it.
-
I actually enjoyed Dragon Age 2. There, I said it.
-
Yeah, it would have been cool if they made using magic by either the PC or his companions in front of Templars have actual consequences. Would have at least been more realistic than being able to cast all sorts of wacky stuff while a Templar is looking on.

Ironically, I'm having this issue with Origins where the top left and top right corners of the screen blink/darken during dialogue after each selection I make. I never had this issue on my old non-HDTV, but it's happening on my new Plasma HDTV. This doesn't happen with DA2. Therefore, DA2 > DA:O.

This is where my lack of game designing knowledge comes in, but I've always wondered why that was the case. Why can't RPGs be as visually stunning as other genre games, especially now that developers of RPGs have made it a point to turn their games into "action-RPGs". So if they're going more action oriented, why do a lot of the environments still look like basic stuff you'd see in RPGs from a decade ago?

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced
GhostofAnakin replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
I didn't mind Oblivion, but I never understood why it got such high ratings. -
The actual size of Kirkwall wasn't an issue for me. The way a lot of the "areas" was the same was. Just seemed like lazy design to me.
-
Ah, thanks for the heads up. I was more interested in it because of the upcoming sequel, but I'm not sure it's worth it if the only good version is on the PC. My PC is a POS, so all my gaming is done on the 360. If I can't get a 360 version, I miss out on the game altogether.

Two things bothered me most about Dragon Age 2: 1- The often mentioned re-used maps. This one doesn't really need further explanation. 2- The Awakenings-style companion interaction, rather than how interaction with your companions worked in Origins. I didn't like the fact you could only really initiate conversations with your companions in their "home base", and only when they wanted you to. In Origins, it was nice to be able to interact with them whenever you wanted, and could learn stuff about them at any time. I also thought that some of the major players could have been fleshed out a bit more through more quests associated with them. Meridith, Orsino, the Arishok, all of them could have done with a couple more personal quests where maybe you learn a bit more about their backgrounds or just quests that expand on them or their "factions" leading up to the end of each act. Finally, I preferred the "epicness" of Origins. Even if it was just the optics of the thing, and there wasn't much more "areas" to visit, but the fact they had multiple cities/towns in Origins made the game just feel so much bigger. I was hoping we'd get to visit Starkhaven for a bit, since it got mentioned a lot. Or even some other outlying town/settlement outside Kirkwall's gates. But all we got for a city was Kirkwall, with a handful of tiny "areas" just outside of the place.

I've been looking for Risen ever since I posted in this thread about a week or two back, but I can't believe how scarce the game is! At least, the 360 version doesn't seem to be carried by any stores, whether it be in-store or online. What's the deal? It's not like it's an old game that's out of "print". It was, I believe, released about a year and a bit ago.

I dislike DLC. I prefer expansion packs. I'm not in favor of spending money to add one extra quest, or one extra dungeon, that usually entails DLC. At least an expansion pack, though smaller than the original game, still has some kind of advancing story. Or maybe I'm still bitter about that abomination (pardon the DA pun) that was Witch Hunt.
-
That's just ... odd.
-
I'd never played Risen before, so when I saw this thread I decided to see if I could pick up the original for cheap. Weird thing is, I can't seem to find it listed on any of my usual sites I visit to purchase games. EB Games doesn't seem to have it, and neither does Best Buy.

Not really sure if this is a spoiler or not (kind of is since it involves companions), but are any of the companions pro-Legion? I want to try and side with the Legion this time, but Boone seems ready to shoot any legionary he sees on sight, that Arcade guy mentions he's fine with whatever I do so long as I don't side with the Legion, and I'm pretty sure Cass and Veronica are against them because of how they treat women. So ... Raul? Lily?

That old ranger dude (forget his name) was spooning with one of the other rangers when I came in to talk to him. He got pissed off at me bothering him, got up from the bed, then went down the hallway and climbed into bed beside another ranger. Also, I only ever got access to one safehouse. It was the Brotherhood of Steel one. Even though I was tight with the NCR and the Rangers, I never was given access to it. What gives? Last time I ever go checking their radio transmissions for them!
-
That's where I stored all my stuff, including my companions I didn't bring along with me. You can even buy more trunks and dressers. It was weird coming home after a day of killing things to find Arcade and Boone asleep beside each other in my bed.
-
Unless I missed a whole load of dialogue options, I can only recall being able to use it two or three times.
-
I'm only near the beginning of my second play through, this time siding more with the Legion than NCR. I'm curious, is it me or does siding against the NCR early on mean quite a bit of quests aren't going to be available to me? I'm just basing this on the fact that my first play through, siding with NCR, quite a few of the quests I undertook dealt with them and my good standing with them.
-
Not really a game "breaking" issue, but an annoying one. I'm in my second play through and as I'm completing the Primm task of retrieving that deputy, my lockpick mini-game has gone all to hell. Instead of being able to see my lockpick pin and lock, I get the computer screen instead. And since it blocks the lock, I can't see which way to turn the thing. I've tried re-loading at earlier points, but it doesn't seem to help.

Finished my first play through. I'm not sure why Boone didn't get an epilogue, yet someone like Raul did. I didn't even take Raul into my party, but Boone was my companions the second most amount of time (after Veronica). I did not enjoy the endless fighting in Hoover Dam (I sided with the NCR), and the damn arrow on the map was difficult to follow inside the dam because of the doors leading to various levels. I have a couple of questions after playing, but I think a couple of them might be answered on subsequent play throughs if I choose different options, so I won't bother asking them. Overall, Obsidian should be proud. I had a few minor glitches, and the game froze on me maybe 3 or 4 times total through the countless hours I played. But the sidequests were amazing, the characters fun, and the choices I made actually had an impact.
