Sitting here wondering if Guildmaster is going to post a P.E. update later this evening.... I love jumping spiders and love taking photos of spiders in general. But doesn't mean I want them in my food, bed, or hair. Hahaha. I'm sorry to hear that Calax. I can only offer internet hugs, which I know isn't much, but **hugs** anyway. Thoughts are with you and your family.

Obsidian has been clear that P.E. will focus on single-player alone. No co-op. So if there will be a co-op mode, it will be in a future sequel/DLC/expansion or whatever. As to myself personally, I don't really care if it's included or not. I don't have any personal use for LAN/co-op myself (hubby wouldn't be interested in this type of game), but I have no objection to it being part of a game, so people who do care can play that way....as long as I'm not forced to do something like play single-player while online. *glares over at Blizzard....* Post-script: I should mention that the one time I tried playing IWD in co-op with a friend, I didn't like it at all. Even IWD wasn't "diablo-like" enough for me to find it fun. Party-based games of the IE mold don't work for me as co-op ventures (and I obviously don't want P.E. to be Diablo like). But I've heard of many couples/friends who did enjoy playing IE games co-op.

Well, while most stories (but not all) tend to need one or multiple antagonists to go with that protagonist it certainly doesn't have to mean a "chosen one" or "save the entire planet/universe" type of hero/villain arc. And yes, I'd rather not see those yet again, either. Saving the main area you're a part of from a perfectly mortal tyrannical rule or something (eg, like a localized civil war) would be ok with me tho. Or in terms of divine conflict/influence, you could go the Greek/Roman mythology route, where it's often more of a personal thing for the hero...like Hercules atonement labors. Well, not exactly like that, because I think Hercules became immortal at the end as a sort of reward, but you know what I mean I hope. His adventures and battles weren't about saving the world...they were about saving himself.

While they've been pretty clear that it won't be in the first game, if when the sequel is made, I wouldn't object to there being a LAN mode for folk who want it. Like Drac said, LAN/co-op doesn't necessarily = WoW or drastically altering gameplay mechanics. And it's not like it wasn't done before in the past, with games of this type. But again, not this time around. Maybe for next game.

Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter. The action scenes were entertaining, but of course the movie itself is ludicrous and the ending became too over the top even for the premise of the film. Still, I derived some moments of pleasure out of it, not the least of which was seeing Alan Tudyk in a small uncredited role. I heard Armin Shimerman was in it too, wearing a shirt that said "Han shot first".

Seem to be getting a lot of bad headaches lately. It's always something, right? But the day has been lovely, cool but sunny. Sitting out in the yard with the cat, then going back inside and sitting with the other cat, meditating and reflecting under their watchful gaze. Happy for what I have had, what I do have, and what I may have in the future.

Agree to this. And yes, in my mind dual-wielding is cliche. Except for some very specific applications, it's little more practical than a 12 ft. katana. Giant warhammers are impractical too though, and warhammers are awesome. I like dual wielding in terms of damage/speed vs. defense. Pistols, short swords, daggers, things of that nature. It's often (to me) more exciting than equipping for blocking damage etc. But I'm not sure it fits with P.E. specifically....depends what they're doing with the weapons/skills/combat stuff and all of that. I don't think one should be dual-wielding long muskets or something like that. Well, since it's a game, you could, but that's not what I personally mean by dual-wielding. Teehee.

Done. I added spoiler tags for length reasons, as well. If you don't know how to use them, it's just: [ spoiler ] .... [ /spoiler ] (no spaces) -

Still playing Torchlight2. My apparently seasonal gaming shift for wanting more in-depth fare hasn't kicked in yet. -
I liked GoT's 1st season. It kinda lost me early in the 2nd season tho, and I still haven't watched the last half of that. At some point I think someone here told me that the stuff re: the Wall wasn't even written about in the books yet, and I lost interest...that was the only thing (outside of Peter D.'s performance) that I cared about.

We Bought a Zoo. Slow but I guess it was ok for light feel-good fare. Matt Damon's performance was the best aspect of it. Altho my husband said it was "kinda sappy."

Project Eternity MMO?
LadyCrimson replied to mcmanusaur's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It must be the weekend. As to the idea of PE being a MMO... no, and no. I like single-player games and I want more single player games, not less.- 106 replies

Hm. That's actually a good question. It's usually the music that I notice first and often I won't think about the atmospheric or non-music sounds until later. I tend to notice hard sound effects (my chr. chopping wood, sword against sword) or atmospheric music more than general ambiance effects - Diablo 1's in-dungeon soundtrack combined with the character's footsteps is classic, imo. But I like the whisper of wind, the sound of rain (probably my fave...if a game had nothing but rain sounds, I'd be happy ), rustling trees, creaking metal, a river. What I call the "moody" sounds. One thing I don't tend to like is "distant murmuring crowds" effects, since most of the time they sound too artificial/busy, as well as repetitive. It's ok in short bursts like in some medieval strategy games, but generally, don't like. eg, stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdMlKVio0LA

I'm not a fan of lentils in general but that actually doesn't sound bad. And I love naan. Now I'm hungry. Hmm. Food, then gaming.

Is the company who made your old, broken one still around? Maybe they still carry something similar? Or were you looking for an upgrade? I don't really know anything about it, but Crispin Freeman has a few recommendations on his website, from $100 and up. http://www.voiceacti...ery.com/toolbox

I know nothing about this game series, but are you recording in half-size with Fraps? That might help you with that a bit. But yeah...even then it can take a lot of space, depending on the game. Anyway ... good luck with that.

Nomance thread?
LadyCrimson replied to Pipyui's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
See, here's the nub. There's really no such thing as a "promance" or "nomance" thread, because in the end, they become indistinguishable from each other. So while there's nothing objectionable to this topic itself, it's not like "nomancers" haven't taken the opportunity or haven't had a chance to state their objections/be very clear about their opinions in all the other so-called "promance" threads. Hence...may as well just be the one thread. At least for now...still. -
That's how I came away feeling after watching the video. I do like their stated goals about the game/gameplay hopes, but that's always an iffy thing. Seems like they have more of a handle on the tech they want to use/make vs. the gameplay they want to create, at this point. But I'll come back to it later too. They're not asking for tons for entry or final goal, and that video sure is impressive. Well, except that the character looks a bit doofy while running.

What makes a game great?
LadyCrimson replied to Space_hamster's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I guess I don't think too much about what, exactly, it is about a game that makes me latch onto it. Which is why I'm lousy at thinking of suggestions for such things. All I really know is if it sparks my brain in all the right pleasure centers, I will become completely and totally obsessed with the game, to the point of forgetting to eat dinner or going to bed. It could be some particular gameplay mechanic - phat loot worth hunting for, the OCD task of leveling up professions and exploration just to "see what is there", or the fun of building something that works well (strategy/sim games). It could be some story aspect - a companion whose story I relate to enough to make me start to care about them outside of what combat prowess they add to the party It could be a sense of humor that matches mine, where you're going through the game and semi-frequently something makes you LOL It could be visceral combat combined with a great music score that, for me, enhances the mood and fun of the battle scenarios to make them very memorable and thus I want to keep going to experience it again. ...and so on and so forth. -
I've been aware of how "too much" sound can annoy me, but I hadn't really thought of how it relates to gaming, outside of how I'll sometimes turn the soundtrack off after a while (simply because I'm tired of hearing it after 50+ hours of playing...). But this might explain why I would get so tired while playing Borderlands 2. The noise of 10 guns firing, helicopters overhead, every enemy has callouts they say constantly, player chrs noises, driving soundtrack, story npc's making story and humorous chatter in the corner with those overlapping and often being interrupted by other story bits if you trigger them...it's quite a mess.

So I often have a big, clear-plastic glass of water by my keyboard, right. Was eating a sandwich for lunch just now and thought to myself, I'll just drink some of that bit o' water that's still in the glass from last night. Started to reach for it but thankfully, I noticed that there seemed to be something in the bottom of the glass. When I looked, it was the corpse of a pretty big spider. Just sitting at very the bottom of the glass, in the water. Dropped in from the ceiling and drowned, I assume. If the glass wasn't clear plastic and I had taken a drink before realizing that, I might have swallowed it. Please excuse me now while I go freak out a little bit.
