Jump start, drive it around on the freeway for half an hour or more. Which is mostly fine during summer but then the colder temps of winter start to equal I'd have to do that every day. When we lived closer to where you are, Hurl, I still didn't drive every day, but I had to come up the Penisula semi-frequently and generally drive significantly more miles per outing. Now it's rare that I drive more than 5-8 miles a week for stuff. I'm also still of the (unsubstantiated) opinion that the car's alarm system puts not inconsequential drain on the battery (even when not "on"). Or maybe it's developed a minor electrical problem that's causing it to drain more than it used to. One day I need to get someone to disconnect it to see. That's something I don't know how to do on this car.

I can make fun of stuff like Twilight or not understand the appeal of Potter on a personal level, but hey....not everyone was into Star Trek. Things hit people differently, so I have no problem with there being a variety for all minds. But it does become a little annoying in entertainment, when because of $$$ there are periods when it starts to feel like companies focus entirely too much on one theme/thing for too long. ....like superhero movies. Are we done with those yet?

Forton is a Joke!

But we don't really know what is in "accordance" with the continent at this time. I doubt every town/city/region on the continent has the same dress fashion, let alone weather. California, for example, is a large state with many different climates (desert, high mountain, sea level, everything inbetween). P.E.'s continent doesn't necessarily only have one climate model, which can influence dress, for example. Edit: besides, in-game, aren't we supposed to be able to dress people the way we want (armored mages, right)? So I'm sure if you want to, you can make Forton wear some plate armor instead of flimsy cotton pants and no shirt, to some degree, if you want. -
I could walk to the store, but they are a bit heavy for me to just lug one back and forth for two miles (some hand/wrist/knee arthritis, blah blah). Maybe I'll buy myself a little red wagon with a long pull handle for next time this occurs. The main issue is I just don't drive enough the past several years to keep a battery charged up/"healthy", I guess...so they wear out faster and stop holding a charge for more than a day or two, within 12-14 months. Or, er, something. I don't know. It's become rather annoying, tho.

Path of Exile has more detailed graphics - or at least gives an illusion of such or something - in some respects, than D3. Aren't those both more "3d" than P.E. is likely to be, tho? I'm not always sure about these things... At any rate, D3 is kinda weird for me visually, because Act1 looks so terrible but later stuff often looked a lot better.

Actually, I said "walk into" a store. There are probably 3 or 4 local automotive retail stores less than 3 miles from our house. He's also plenty familiar with basic auto mechanic stuff if it doesn't involve the new-fangled computer mumbo jumbo. eg, he once rebuilt the whole engine to a Mercury Capri.....he's just getting lazy in his "old" age and is starting to have this sort of attitude about a lot of things, and it's occasionally irritating since I see it as wasting money. Couples, y'know. Actually, all he needs to do is drive me to go buy it. I know how to install it.

Meele Mages
LadyCrimson replied to Incendium's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Makes sense. I guess I tend to think of "battlemages" when I start leaning towards melee. Would use some short-range attack spells but nothing very ranged, defensive spells, summoned weapons, very speed oriented. Very little healing augmentation magic wise. Even if they can wear physical armor to protect against physical harm/bullets, I might think it's appropriate for a mage to still have something like a "fire armor" that does some fire damage to melee attackers or something like that. Depends, like you said. -
Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
LadyCrimson replied to Metabot's topic in Computer and Console
What I remember most about MW was stacking pillows, learning sneak the cheesy way, bouncing around everywhere like a rubber ball to try to get acrobatics up, spending way, way too much time on alchemy and enchanting, getting annoyed at the level scaling, and using the editor to build huge, fancy underground "houses" with NPC's and tons of storage space. It was an obsessive-compulsive tinkering gaming dream, once. What I don't remember is the story/plot. Did it have one? ...I do remember the faction choosing, but I don't think I ever got around to choosing one to progress the main plot terribly far ... tho I do seem to recall getting a mage house as a reward or something. eg, I never finished the game, despite spending a lot of time in it. As to what happened to Beth....who knows. On the very surface, Oblivion and Skyrim still remind me of MW. But the OCD compulsion aspect wasn't there, and I got bored with both in a matter of hours/days. -

It's probably been about 4-5 months since I last checked out Path of Exile. Thought I'd update it and take a peek again, for a brief moment. After taking what seemed forever to "allocate space", it finally started downloading. Nearly 3GB. Sheesh. At least their servers are fast...going faster than Steam usually does. Still, trying it out might have to wait until tomorrow at this point. PoE, while some fun initially, still has never felt like "my" game. Can't put a complete finger on why, seems like I should like it. Maybe the humongous tree thingie feels too exhausting to deal with. Maybe their specific top-down angle and rather dreary color scheme annoys me a little (and the first Act is/was still kinda boring...). But they keep making improvements/changes, so I keep hoping one of these days I'll update it, fire it up, and suddenly be entranced. -
Me: I need a car battery again. Hubs: Could call AAA and they'll come out and bring you one. Me: And how much is that? Hubs: $99 Me: And how much if we walk into a store to buy one? Hubs: Maybe $50-70. Me: So why should I call AAA again? Hubs: .....

Forton is a Joke!
LadyCrimson replied to Hellfell's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yup....which is why I'm not very fussed over whether I think every detail of the concept art is super awesome. I've actually liked most of it so far, in a general kind of way. It's just nice to see some kind of interpretation of character, so early. I'm confident it'll all look fine in the final product. It's better even in that color group concept piece, imo. Just how old is he supposed to be, anyway, I wonder? 50ish? 60ish? -
Meele Mages
LadyCrimson replied to Incendium's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I've used the term myself at times, but I'm curious what others think a "melee mage/caster" means ... if you're going for melee, you're probably not tossing the fireballs and freezing hailstorms. So then do you mean, will you have enough defensive spells where you can safely whack people with a staff instead? If you're going to use a shield/mace, with an armor spell and a fire dmg to weapon and such, what makes that different from, say, a cleric? Or are we talking about summoning magical swords? -

I'm fine when you click on a merchant or a quest NPC and a dialogue window popup box with their mug in it in a corner pops up, or whatever. I just don't want to feel like every time I click on someone to "speak" to them, or every time my companions decide they want to have a chat, that I'm tossed into/stuck in some special window.- 85 replies

Character Expression
LadyCrimson replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't like the idea of little portraits next to the text dialogue. For one thing, it (often) takes up too much extra space. For another, it's repetitive to see the same pictures for every line of dialogue. Even if they had a set of several different ones (angry, sad, smiling, bloody-injured) it's still repetitive and distracting. And often kinda corny. [ smiling ] is less annoying, imo...if, indeed, one must have such descriptive giveaways in the first place. When there is no voice work to gather emotional cues from, sometimes I'd rather they just do a good job of set-up and writing, so I get a sense that the npc is annoyed or whatever from that alone, without needing any "cues" to lead me. I like Monks, and Forton's ok. My main issue is the balding head feels out of proportion or something, it does look odd. Too tall of forehead perhaps. Can't beat that, but I was staring at his face, and what it actually reminds me of is:- 216 replies

Because I'd like to give them to low level chrs. (or more specifically, their pets) sometimes. They don't drop frequently enough for it to be reliable to always get a certain spell. 6 low level chrs. and I've had the lvl1 dmg. reflection spell drop once. Yes, I know, it's twinking, but that's what I do in these games sometimes. Shared stash and all. Heh. -
That's been my take on things. The fixed perspective is in, but everything around that seems to be open for new possibilities, if they also fit in with the mechanics and gameplay aesthetic aspects they do want to keep (and time, and budget...). I'm definitely hoping for AI and UI improvements, like most people here, I think, too.

Heh, I haven't tried those yet. I like the healing pulse robot and summons in general, tho. A vendor opened up in Act2 who sells scroll-spells, but they're only higher level ones. Can you ever buy the lower-level spells or are they only drops? -

Torchlight2 - The genie main story quest in late Act2 is great for getting some gear and clvl's. I could repeat that one area over and over without having to save/quit/reload the game. You level so fast ... my Outlander is lvl36 now, and the pace never feels like it slows down much. Current gear, my ferret pet has almost 3 times as much health as I do. Have tried the other 3 classes up to at least lvl24 now, and the Outlander is still my fave. Oddly, I like the guns in the game more than the non-gun weapons/magic. Just love being a badass gunslinger. Never used to be that into guns in fantasy games, even action ones. I blame Borderlands1. -
I can't keep it all straight either. Since we're talking IE games I made an assumption you meant the pulling to divide and conquer. But I think it can mean a fair number of things, depending on who you talk to. Possibly most commonly used to refer to tactics of avoiding damage during combat in some form of hit and run maneuvering. eg, not standing still to duke it out.

I like kiting, or "pulling" enemies one at a time...sometimes. I would rather not see that option be entirely eliminated. Not saying it should be doable in every single combat instance...but like with all things, there should be options and variety. If every combat scenario had them calling out for buddies, then eventually that would get predictably boring (to me) too.
