Despite what the movies like to show, it's pretty hard to ignite gasoline/fumes with a lit cigarette. Which isn't to say it's impossible or that one should feel free to smoke around gas pumps and such - only that it's not very likely to occur.

They're games, not university courses. There's a reason terms like "influenced by," "inspired by" etc. exist. I also feel fairly certain that the odds are probably high that pretty much all cultures/countries like to fudge historical accuracy (or use omission) at times. We all like to make ourselves look good/better when it comes time to write the history books. Harping on a game not being ultra-realistic or having a slant towards some particular viewpoint is like harping on a fictional, blockbuster entertainment movie that does the same thing. P.S. I do get that sometimes blatant stereotypes in entertainment get old/annoying now and then, but some artistic license isn't always a bad thing.

Time for the pre-winter housecleaning! *scrubdustshakewashputaway* Also, our latest energy co. bill claims a "new and improved, easier to read statement!" Which as far as I can tell, mostly equals larger text printed on larger sized paper, creating more waste. I guess they added a graph too, to let you know how extremely poorly you fare against what they think should be "normal" energy usage. Or perhaps they should get more with the times about what "normal" usage is in this high-tech geek-filled area.

The Appeal of Fantasy
LadyCrimson replied to mcmanusaur's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
On the subject of aesthetics, I was thinking the other day that as I get older, the more I realize how much a game's setting influences my enjoyment, especially now that we have such improved graphic capabilities (both 2D and 3D). Or maybe I'm thinking of environment? Or a combo of both? That is, I enjoy tromping around a forest, a sandy/windy desert, the edge of a grassy lake, climbing snow capped mountains, and creeping through dark twisty caverns. It's an atmosphere and scenery thing. Doesn't have to be a carbon copy Earth type environment, just that it feels outdoorsy/organic. And for whatever reasons, such environments tend to be found more in "fantasy" rpg's. I don't tend to enjoy bustling/noisy cities, wandering amid shadowed skyscrapers and paved streets or inside office buildings, traffic and honking horns, looking at neon signs everywhere, and so on. It feels oppressive and not where I'd "naturally" like to be and dampens my gaming tunnel vision. So games with those types of environments being dominant tend not to appeal, even if the gameplay itself might be something I'd like. Such settings work fine/I may even want them in a movie, but for some reason I don't like it games as much. Go figure? This mostly applies to RPG's with an exploration value, of course. Sim-strategy it's not quite as important, altho it'll still influence a bit. And of course, there have been games set in sci-fi/futuristic or mech urban environments that were fine/awesome. But they'll usually have a mix, so it's not all-city or all-indoors and I can get a break. -
How many [Rings]?
LadyCrimson replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Forget rings ... I"d like some Argyle Socks of Odoriferous Smiting. -
That happens to me all the time when I make something that has a lot of loose stuff to put in or on top. Like when I make mini-pizza rounds and I want to pile on too many toppings for the small breads to hold...I've never been a minimalist.

I love picking up my cat because he likes to lick my face and nibbles on my hair like he thinks he's a puppy. Which makes my face swell up a bit and itch like mad before I dash to the bathroom to rinse. But it's worth it! ...contemplating ordering some cheap Chinese food or making something out of the fridge, after which I shall holler to my spouse to get off that darn BL2 game so I can watch some TV.

No offense to Jackson, but I like this "I am the danger" video better. (mild language) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT6dPpZ9C68

I think I heard California was trying to get a $12 minimum wage going recently. Did that go through? Not that $12/hour gets you very far in metropolitan Calif.

That's another one that I looked at on Steam's early access. When I watch the preview video, it looks awesome, but at this point I know it's best - at least for me - to wait until there's a finished product/reviews. I still believe Molyneux could/can make good games, if he could reign in his personal ambitions/visions just a little bit to fit into more realistic boxes. Or something. Hopefully he listens to the feedback.

Looks a little bit like my first cat ever, actually, except mine was a bit more long-haired.

I mostly like 50-60fps (at high settings) so I know I have large amount of wiggle-room for those areas/situations where the fps sometimes spikes down dramatically, in some games. If games stayed at a constant 35-40fps and never moved from that, I'd be fine, but most of the time they don't, so....

Someone over Something Awful praised, said "The game really has that Fallout "feel", in my opinion, and the combat, for one, is very good and varied for a single character RPG.". Most likely going to get it myself once it's finished. Yeah, if it continues to get good marks as it progresses, I'll definitely want to try it. I'm almost curious enough to try it as it is now, but I've been learning that while I do like getting early glimpses or playing in final development stages, I don't think I like playing a game too early in its development stage. Getting attached to stuff and then having it be taken out, or whatnot.

Female sees kitten: "Aww, it's so cuuuuuute!" Female sees pic of her best friend's new bf: "Dang, woman, he's cute!" World of difference, see?

KaineParker's hopefully attractive women thread.
LadyCrimson replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Way Off-Topic
I think we're starting to occasionally stray a bit too far into "who has the best butt cheeks/butt floss" vs. generalistic "attractive women." It's a hard thing to judge at times, given all the varying degrees of what's PG-13 these days and what's not, so I'm not going to spend time editing out what's there already, but let's try to avoid more of it or there might not be a 3rd thread.- 526 replies

That's an interesting mix...certainly handsome. And there's nothing wrong with the word "cute." Don't know why so many guys don't like that word. Cute can have multiple meanings and implications to women, just depends.

Was surfing through the indie list on Steam and noticed the Kickstarter project Castle Story is on there now as "Early Access." It's not getting very good marks/rep seems like, and I have doubts they're ever going to finish that one. There's also Underrail (turn based rpg, more promising), Prison Architect (looks funny) and Folk Tale (city-build/strategy, reminds a bit of Majesty). I'd try the Prison one but it's rather pricey for early access and Folk Tale has no save-game yet.... Anyone tried the Underrail one?

I don't know about what my eyes are supposed to be able to do...all I know is these days, on modern games with all the bells and whistles, if the fps starts falling below 35fps, I feel like I'm swimming in molasses. It's certainly playable and it's not all herkyjerky, but it's still not visually fluid or smooth. The difference is highly noticeable (vs. 50fps and above). On older games, however, it seemed like you could play games at 20fps and it still felt largely fine. At least in solo-play.

He's pretty cute...probably cuter than his dad was at that age. I wonder if he'll look as weathered, in 15 years.

To quote hubby: "I'm all out of Dexter." Thus he's been watching another Showtime show, called The Big C. I've only seen a few of the episodes and some scenes as I walk by. Seems rather uneven but bits of its black comedy is pretty funny.

*Wants a new bluray/dvd player* Store clerk: Can I help you find anything? I'm the expert in this section. Me: Are any of these still a "dumb" blu-ray player? Store clerk: *silence* ...even the dumbest still has (optional) internet connectivity and a boot-up time. I think that's what I dislike the most about a lot of the new media units. Boot-up time. When I turn something on, I want it to be functional as instantly as possible, like the old days. Not have to stand there for many seconds, disk in hand, waiting for the darn unit to decide it's ready. Boot up time is ok for a computer, not so awesome for a DVD player.

There aren't many (active) around here these days. And I personally try to stay out of the chest-beating discussions as a general rule, because really, I'd rather spend my time playing with a cat or something.

His supposed more mainstream films have lost some of his original touch. I don't think he's ever been comfortable doing the mainstream (non-"independent"), since his Army of Darkness experience. Could be why he's moved so far into producing instead.

I have no clue what the long wig and stuffed dragon toys pinned to long underwear are supposed to be.
