  1. Haven't backed very many, really. None have been released. Only played a couple alphas. They've been kinda fun, but neither have super-excited me as the alphas continue to evolve (my feelings go up and down) but I wasn't expecting the sun and the stars either, so it's all good. While I hope for the best and expect at least a playable/fun for a playthru or two game, I don't usually have high expectations. Not on most of the budgets. Pillars of Eternity (I still read that as "pillows"...) is the only KS I have fairly high expectations for - at least within reason of the budget. If they disappoint me I might have to ... to ... uh, I don't know. I suppose I'll do what I usually do - mope in my room in grumpy silence. But that won't happen. Nope, nope it won't.
  2. After catching some of "The Yearling" on TV the other day, I've been on a Gregory Peck kick, like The Guns of Navarone - a classic, imo. Next I'm going to watch The Purple Plain, which I don't think I've seen before. Films of the 40's-early 60's are sometimes a little hard to sit through these days, but after a diet of constant action over dialogue/green-screen films of recent years where I often feel like the actors don't really matter much, it's nice to go back to a time when actors ... acted.
  3. Outside of the occasional burst of humorous irritation at hearing such lines repeated over and over by NPC's in games, I still don't get the "funny." (or why it's a "meme")
  4. I won't play MMO's that have griefing/PvP capability as a default that one can't get away from, unless such has a very meaningful gameplay reason for existing. Even then I probably wouldn't play such a game. I'd respect it, wouldn't play it. People like to feel they "all" have a similar chance and time-line for advancing characters in MMO's, if one puts in the same amount of work. People also like to feel the game isn't only catered to hard-core, 4-hour a day every day types of players in terms of having a chance at gear/anything "fun" or being able to run dungeons. Not that there can't be super hardcore MMO's, but I bet they generally won't be the mega-million player base types, so whether they could be a long-term success or not depends on their cost vs. how much/how long people will pay and all that jazz. So basically ... sounds like you want a non-casual MMO. Could happen. Probably not often tho.
  5. I'm assuming the dude is drunk, hence the "hic" in the middle. Drunk slurring works in a movie when the guy at the bar is acting slushy but not so much (imo) in text. And I don't really mind the meme either. Actually I don't even get/know the joke of that meme - I just know it is a meme because I see people use it with "lol" or whatever attached.
  6. After having barely played the other two KS alpha's I backed in their various versions and then sorta losing motivation partially because of all the changes they kept making, I think I'll wait for the released version of the game. I've discovered I prefer playing games that are at least pretty close to finished vs. playing a drastically updated game over and over. That said, the game looks pretty promising/nice screenies, and I'd love to get opinions from anyone who does play the alphas.
  7. Well the ground and floor tiles look pretty nice. ...even if one isn't expecting supreme writing from this one, I hope the overall writing/dialogue is better than those 2 jokey snippets. Even minus the meme, it's pretty rough to read. But then I personally don't generally like it when writers do stuff like "RUH(hic)anger." That's pretty awkward.
  8. My impression is a lot of the most popular, constant-uploaders "Let's Player's" are really comedians/entertainers. Or at least outlandish in their commentary (think MST2K). The few I've watched and liked were in that vein, like ... TobyGames I think it was? I remember some of his FO:NV videos had me crying tears of laughter. Most of the time I'm in your camp, however. I'll pick a video and skip around in it really fast to get an idea of gameplay mechanics or something and then turn it off. Or I'm looking for something really specific from a game, certain scene, quest, info. There's a reason why there's zillions of Let's Play videos but not really that many "big name" ones with all the views. Most of us aren't very entertaining talkers.
  9. Firestarter is on as I eat lunch. Drew Barrymore is/was so wee! ...I loved that book back when. The movie is another matter.
  10. They're doing more gas pipeline work (or never did it back when they originally said they were going to, dunno) near our house. Some construction noise all day. Then a few minutes ago the sound of fire engines close by. No explosions or smell of smoke however, so I think I won't worry. Finishing some icky paperwork. Rumbling belly tells me to take a break...
  11. I loved Lawrence of Arabia and some of this other work, but probably because it was the first time I personally became aware of him, the thing I remember most was the TV mini-series Masada. I was 12 or 13, and it made me cry. I wonder if you can buy that on Amazon or something. *flounces off to look*
  12. Pretty much. I liked (very early) WoW, and I like NWO. Although, "like" NWO is probably the wrong term. It's more like I enjoy its task orientation. In neither game, however, have I liked the so-called "MMO endgame grind." I usually focus on other things than that. I like being able to drop in for 20 minutes and drop out again. I do know, however, that in both games what I liked the most was being able to play solo and ignore the social aspect. eg, kinda like playing Diablo if Diablo had a huge, persistent open world instead of a cramped, 100 monsters per square foot world. I like to wander. (NWO isn't anywhere near as open as WoW tho - but it has more things to collect ).
  13. Interesting. And you'd probably kill something in 2 seconds while it'd take me 10. Haha. Attacks per second on DC .. bah. I keep seeing people talk about having 8000 Power or 5000 Crit and based on my limited knowledge if item stats, I keep wondering how they manage numbers like that. I guess they give up everything else? Or some special class skill that boosts it like mad?
  14. Haha...that's cool. I hear you can play Neverwinter with a controller if you use xpadder. I wonder if I could get hubby to play it. *thinks a moment* Probably not.
  15. But if you raised them from wee like we do now, and they just grew that big, they'd know it was you. Not that they might not accidentally kill you with a friendly paw-pat... I'd be more afraid of their tongues, personally. Even if they were trying to give you a friendly smooch, those rough tongues they have, at that size, would probably flay you alive. Even house-cats can lick a spot on your arm nearly raw if they have a mind to.
  16. The problem I have with cities in most games is when I can't go into every building. Why is there a door there if I can't go in it, darnit? ...I like a mix tho. Some hustling cities and some more open or isolated areas. But they don't have to be "wilderness" areas per se (with grass, lions, tigers and bears oh my). A run down abandoned city area or giant junkyard works just as well. Mostly, I don't want to feel like there's no escape at all from the main noisy cities.
  17. Oh man...if kittah's could be that big I could flop on their belly, listen to their rumbling purring and die of happy. ...in my errand hopping this afternoon (curse holiday season shoppers, curse them!) I realized what it is that I can't stand about places like K-Mart/Wal-Mart/whatever-mart. Around here at least, they all seem to have cashiers who take 10 minutes to process a single customer with 3-5 items. So there can be 3 people in front of you and by the time you get to the cashier yourself, 7 more have backed up behind you. I don't understand it. It's not rocket science. By the time I leave such a store I'm so annoyed I'm turning blue.
  18. I can't leave stuff in the mail too long because there's a limit to how many mail attachments you can have at one time (maybe 20 or 25, varies with how much is in each mail I think), and I have to have enough allowance to mail stuff back and forth between characters without having to login back and forth between them 20 times.
  19. Original IP Real time with Pause (not that I mind turn based either) Genre? I don't know. I don't mind bullets and laser guns instead of magic and arrows but I'm not too into what I think would be called cyber or steam punk. If it has a touch of that that's cool but not into that as a serious setting, if you know what I mean. I tend to like dark and moody, alternate realities/timelines (from our "real world") but not actually super depressing. Not that into "horror" but I do enjoy some creepy dungeons etc. So ... uh ... yeah, no clue. This is why I'm not a game designer.
  20. Was trying to clean stuff out of my 13 chrs/alts in prep for Winter Festival today. What's that you say? That doesn't look so bad? Well multiply the total number of slots in these two pics by about 7, or maybe 8, then you might understand. (most of my alts don't have extra Bank or the "big" bags" like these two but it's still a lot of ...stuff). One alt has an entire bag of nothing but collected dyes... I have a pack-rat problem. Not just in this game either. *speaking in the tiny 'The Fly' voice* ... help me...help me.....
  21. That's my main DC's base stats (no bonuses from campfire/potions). Everything goes up by 350/stats and 1-2% if I use my cat augment pet instead and a bit more yet with potions etc. If I use my Daily things die a bit faster but often I don't bother. Not sure why. Not needed mostly. 20 seconds, 35 seconds, dead is dead. The last circle in the quest to get the free artifact was first time I felt like there was a bit of challenge. heh. Two of my gear items still have lvl6 enchants instead of 7, not counting the feet/arms/hat (lvl 5's) which don't add to gear score anyway. I obviously haven't focused on Power.
  22. Mama - it was on "free" HBO on-demand, so... I'd heard ok reviews of it, for a ghost/scares film. But for me it was neither jump-scary or very entertaining. It was actually quite boring. It did have some nice camerawork here and there, with dark atmosphere....and Mr. Blond-Stud from GoT is always nice eye candy, even if his actual role (two roles, actually, playing twin brothers) was pretty small and useless. For a ghost/tragedy type film, for my money you still can't beat Lady in White. I'll take human characterization/mystery over bizarre CGI imagery/gross outs, truncated plotlines and Grudge-like "boo" moments.
  23. @Ros - I really like that blk/wht photo of the older man in the round hat. I find it happy/inspiring. Shower soon, lunch with a friend, after which I'll do those errands I avoided yesterday (famous last words?), then more couch-flopping. All I want to do is half-doze under warm covers, lately.
