  1. 48 Foresters? Selling a lot of firewood? ...I've always focused on selling excess iron tools and hide coats, because I don't like taking up so much land for forestry (iron mines take up a lot less land), but this map I tried the firewood thing for a bit. I actually think the forester/woodcutter/firewood should be altered, because it feels very unbalanced re: ease of trade, compared to anything else. Maybe that was intentional, tho. ...I'm trying a new Large/Valley map that seemed ideal for a very large city. Going very slowly, trying to achieve my desired layout plans - eg, my landscape is littered with big yellow "pause" symbols as I design things before building them. Went so slowly that I lost a lot of people one early winter by not focusing enough on food vs. my layout, heh. But survived that and now looking good. Another day or two and maybe I'll post a composite of it. Not going for mega population, just a large one with a balanced layout.
  2. Speaking of storage barns .... (not my pics) Someone was experimenting with reaching a million food and how many barns required. I question the legitness of the methods used - I smell Cheat Engine or something to be able to do in 58 years, even with trading for the food, but who knows, might be possible - either way, it's still freakin' hilarious. Plus now I know that 999999 is the highest you can command workers to keep producing food, although then you can go higher via trading for it. Haha. 3. Wanted a bout of extra-long sleep this morning to recharge after a long day yesterday, but our neighbors decided today was the day they finally were going to chop down some of that avocado tree, thus there were loud voices and chainsaws at 8am. Hubs had to move my car so they workers could access our backyard with their gear. So got up, cleaned house, played games, etc. Now it's supper time. Also...I still hate Citibank's CC division. After not using their MasterCard for 3 years, they threatened by letter to cancel it. I called their customer service, which is one of those endless "speak yes or no...sorry, I can't understand you" automated thingies. Discovered they'd lowered my credit limit by more than 70% (for inactivity, wat? what a crock) and thus losing it wouldn't impact credit rating by much, decided they can go ahead and cancel me. Been meaning to get another lowish limit Visa for internet use anyway.
  4. Hiho, hiho, it's off to work we go. ...after yet another Large/Valley map where I once again got restless after getting near 200 population, 50k food stored/multiple markets etc. in 4-5 hours, and the only thing left is to really push outward to expand, I've decided that perhaps what I really prefer in this game is not high-pop goals but the beginning, on Medium or Small maps. The struggle at the start when you have almost no workers and have to cajole everyone to breed so you can reach the point where it's finally, firstly stable. Especially when the game starts you in a less than ideal spot so it's tougher to get going, like on narrow strips of land between two rivers (pic) or almost hemmed in by a ring of mountains. While there's satisfaction in getting a thriving town to a certain point, my brain becomes a bit mushy when then having to think about repeating the process outside of your original 2-3 markets, 3-4 forester/gather rings. Especially with the way citizen AI works, with having no distance limit in which workers will travel (away from their homes) to clear land or build a hut for you, meaning they starve on the way back or don't get back in time to farm. It feels like a poor mechanic result vs. challenge and becomes more noticeable the more spread out you get. I think if you did it very slowly and carefully, without using "main town" hubs but a series of overlapping market circles and clumps of houses on the edges of each (instead of the center) you could avoid too much of the "starvation worker" syndrome, but it'd be very slow/a pain. And the storage barns do NOT have enough space for stockpiling for big expansion pushes, especially since you can't tell a barn to only accept certain somethings, so you end up with massive amounts of the darn things in clusters everywhere. Eventually the town sprawl gets uglier and uglier (even for me, who never builds "pretty towns" to begin with) and gets less satisfying, unless you're just a pure numbers-goal sort. I love the sandbox nature of the game and that, like most of these game, there are many different designs/playstyles to succeed. It definitely has that "start a new map, blink and it's 5 hours later" effect. I'll continue to play/enjoy it for a long time, but it could use a few tweaks re: later stages on Large maps. Like that silly starve-distance-AI, custom storage-orders, etc. Also, in spite of the speed bonus, what's the point in building roads when the citizens hardly ever use them, except where forced to because you've practically paved everything and it's the only option?
  5. Haha, I loved whacking those waddling pink teddy bears and splicing the unicorns in half.
  6. Neverwinter Online - future Icewind Dale themed module, eh? If it's like their first two modules, probably won't bring me back but it kinda makes me go "hwUuh?" They're also being mysterious about it with a teaser anagram for people to try to solve. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ahct7XV_exY]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ahct7XV_exY
  7. It's probably currently overwhelmed with excitement waiting for the game, too. I took the liberty of closing the duplicate thread.
  8. Garlic and mushrooms in a food dish. Mmmyummi. Super strong fertilizer smell on the wind ... not so yummi.
  9. Oh? I haven't seen the original Godzi in decades. Ok ... then they need to create a new sound for giant reptiles that aren't Godzi. Essentially, they sound similar enough to me (electronic-ized elephant trumpet mixes, maybe lion) that one brings to mind the other, chicken or egg, heh. Anyway, I'm not trying to rag on the movie itself, just movie trailers, heh. It definitely looks better than the '98 one, at least.
  10. Does it have William Shatner in it? I would pay a lot of money to see William Shatner in something called Catzilla!
  11. A friend called with some pretty bad news. I now have major sads+some angry. Going to drown myself in some rum and a video game for a bit then go to bed. Tomorrow will spend day with friend.
  12. What is it about capes that make capes so awesome?
  13. If the part the ice cream is in is made out of metal, doesn't count. If it's plastic ... then maybe. Hehe. ...I miss my mother's old hand crank ice cream maker. Wood slatted outside, metal ingredient container, ice/salt between the two, this handle thing that went over the top, and crankcrankcrankcrank for a couple hours.
  14. The teaser trailer - +3 for the the paratroopers and their flares. I don't care if it's ludicrous, it's just viscerally kewl with all the smoke and red trailers and cloth-flapping noises and such. -2 for the animated giant reptile that yet again instantly made me think of the T-Rex in Jurassic Park. Even the screech-roar noise. Can they create a new giant-reptile noise, please? The main trailer - +3 for Ken Watanabe +1 for Bryan Cranston -2 for the Inception "bwwaaaaaa" horns Overall impression - I'm not a big Godzilla fan but looks like it could be a decent mindless-fun summer action-monster movie. It's also yet another movie where I really wish Roger Ebert was still around to comment on it. 3D - don't care.
  15. Gilroy. Or garlic restaurants like the Stinking Rose in San Francisco. Or buy an ice-cream maker and try one of the many recipes for garlic ice cream that you can find on the internet.
  16. I don't think I find static portraits in dialogue trees more immersive, but I don't mind if they're there, as long as they're pretty small and don't create an over-inflated spacial-size/scrolling issue, if that makes sense.
  17. Still Banished, although I haven't had too much "gaming" time the past 24-36 hours. Am becoming 1/4-tempted to try the supposedly awesome improvement to Diablo3, but I think I'll still wait for the full expansion.

  20. Post count limit. I think we've had some fun with this thread so I'm going to create a continuation/2nd thread.
  21. Well, I think the news that romance won't be specifically included in PoE has been successfully broadcast. More significantly, we've reached the post count limit.
  22. I know we need desperately need the rain, but the grey sky today is making me kinda "bleh." It was $60k for us. But we went in just as the economy was tanking (after a few years of looking) so prices were still sky high in the area we wanted, tho dropping. We got lucky, really. Our house is tiny but still in a place that holds value relative to its location - it's already gone up far past our purchase price again. Which I think is super-absurd. And yeah...while I was nervous about buying (commitment issues, har) after renting forever, I'm glad we did, now. I think rent went up like mad, here, too.
  23. Hmm ... maybe. But ... no. But ... hmm ... maybe.
  24. Garlic ice cream and garlic gummy bears! ...the last few times I've been in S. Cali it was only to pass through it on the way to somewhere else. Usually we go E. towards the mountains instead.
  25. Sometimes people like to figure out a little more analysis into why they may have certain preferences and like some characters but not others. Considering not everyone thinks a single character is good or bad, well done/poorly done, I think there's a little more going on than within our psyches than just the generic "good/bad writing" answer.
