Me: We decided to hang out here, eat take-out, and watch movies. Friend: Heya. Hubs: Heya. Sounds good, what movies? Me: Terms of Endearment. Friend: And Steel Magnolias. Hubs: [ silence ] Me & Friend: Haha! Just kidding. *girl-giggles, fading as we swoosh over to kitchen* Hubs: (calling after us) Should I be afraid?

That's good news, Enoch, and congrats. :D After some lunch, off to friend-sit some more. We'll probably watch maudlin movies and cry on each others shoulders. Either that or we'll watch silly, gory horror films and cackle. Either works as a catharsis method and you never know, with us.

Coincidentally, I was watching Captain America on TV the other day. I think I liked it better upon a 2nd viewing. Not that I disliked it before, I just found it a bit dull. 2nd time, I liked the humor and chr./origin buildup more.

I don't have awesome designs or anything - I just go with the idea that houses should be spread out in order to always have workers close to workplaces as the AI shuffles them around all the time. My main problem still figuring out how much food to produce. I don't find the Town Hall figures helpful - "food produced this year" doesn't seem right. Felt like in Caesar games it was simple to eventually figure out how many farms or clay pits etc. per 100 people, or whatever, but Banished feels more obscure, partly because you can make the farms various sizes. But it appears, however much "grey" is on your mini-map, the brown (food) should be 4 to 5 times as prevalent. I always overflow with food at 300-400 pop. but then start to fall behind. I get tired of building nothing but farms and forget ...

It's a problem with most game trailers these days, especially the big title ones. It's like they're advertising a movie, not a video game.

I don't even know the reference meaning behind this post and I still found it amusing for some reason.

I reached 500+ Adults (700+ total eats-food citizens). Yay? But I expanded too rapidly (I getz impatienz) without building enough food infrastructure and the 200+ kiddies (more born constantly!) are scarfing the larders bare. I could reload an hour-earlier save and fix it easily enough but meh ... think I've had enough of this city for a while. Maybe on flat maps you could get 1800+ if you had the patience/organization of the devil. More if you reduce dependance on Gatherers/Foresters buy trading for firewood/food. A composite pic - which is really frakking hard to do, and it's still off kilter. Even tried a panorama composite program and that didn't help much. And it doesn't look as pretty when totally top-down viewed. Oh well. It's just town areas, not whole map. Time to try a new map seed - 20140227 <---this one looks pretty awesome for a 300-500 town in that huge middle space. Starvation Explosion imminent....

My mother-in-law suicided by train some years ago. She didn't use a car. That was not a fun couple of months. And in a strange way, I felt the worst for the train conductor. (edit) I'm glad in this case the conductor was able to stop in time.

"Relatively new" = 3-5 years for me, for tech. Usually. Typically I haven't had to replace a PSU during the life of using a PC ... maybe I should have to be safe, but I haven't. When I put my hand behind the case, the spot where the PSU fan is is pretty warm. But I think the GPU above it is warmer. Not sure about the CPU since it doesn't have a specific connected outlet to the outside. Just the 3 case fans sort near it that pull the overall air out so by then it's not directly so hot against a palm. But yeah, I can believe the CPU is a heater.
-
That's interesting. Is that something relatively new or have some models "always" done that? Next time I get a PSU I'll have to keep it in mind. Don't think I've ever really checked my PSU fan per se...I've only occasionally noticed when gameplaying because the back of the case is spewing out hot air in all kinds of ways, since I don't have water cooling.

For some reason, I am reminded of "Bobby" from The Brady Bunch. If he wore glasses and had a scar, that is.

So, do most men actually want to work in high-stress, very competitive (maybe even "cutthroat") jobs? Or are they also conditioned in that they must do so or be considered a failure, if only because of annual income potentials? I get the stereotype that men may generally be more competitive in nature, which could lead them into wanting different types of vocations, but most of the guys I know would much rather just do their 8 hours, go home, crack a beer, and relax (or go hang out with friends etc). Not spend 14 hours a day at the office or be on-call all the time so they can never have a real vacation/never see their kids etc.

The frustrating thing is that the distance isn't even that far - not like I sent them to the bottom edge of the map, not even close. I guess the cold saps them sooner, too. But they get hungry and the AI demands they have to walk all the way to their "own house" to get food. They walk right past markets and barns full of food and ignore it. On the way back, they get cold, so they walk to/stop at a random house for a second for that, then start walking back to own house for food again, and don't make it. It's hilarious when there's a huge line of them, tho, snaking the road/hills back to main town. Almost as fun as slapping imps. Almost.

Heating pad? Ice pad? Tire iron?

I liked Gravity as well. I didn't, however, think it was the best space/action movie ever worth oodles of awards or something. But I enjoyed it as a visual space fantasy and didn't regret taking the trouble to see it on the big screen. It did sorta lose steam in the final third or so, imo.

Come my many peasants, the harvest is over. Just because it's snowing doesn't mean you get to lollygag around! Hm, about 130 of you free, that might be enough. Over here, now. Way over here. Yes, that's it, work harder! Faster! I must expand my kingdom of wooden shacks! What? You're hungry and cold? That's no excuse, where are you all going? You won't make it back, your AI sucks and you'll die anyway, just work till you drop! ...Fine, leave then. Don't want to say I told you so, but ... I told you so. Waste of good work time... And thus my town is made from the bones of cruel and needless death. Maybe I should feel a little remorse, but...nah. I got more work that needs doing. ...while the walker distance AI is stupid/frustrating, it is rather amusing to observe, at times.

For the first 35 years I didn't even let them bury their dead or practice their religion, either. I'm a cruel, heartless taskmaster. No rest for the peasants!

Ah, did I miss the Oscars again? Oh well. Hubs and I watched the Thor sequel. It's like watching Norse mythology fused with Star Wars, but hey, at least there's Loki to amuse me. The dark elf grenades reminded me of Borderlands2 "singularity" grenades, too, which made me laugh. Even more of a laugh was what hubby said when the Big Bad used his giant, tall ship to go through that town square/whatever like a field plow.. I quote: "I bet that's murder on the paint job. Couldn't that dark elf get his darn flying ship to rise just a little bit higher?"

I wanted to go into biology lab research, but formal education and I don't get along, so I chose to play video games instead.

I had lots of empty pastures. At first they weren't actually assigned, but I did assign them later and it didn't help. I checked on the official forums for anything that might relate, and apparently the pasture has to be large enough to house at least 10 animals. Mine are all sized to hold 6-8 - it's because it fits into my layout more neatly. No matter - the livestock traders finally started showing up again...after I built two more trade docks...so it's all good now. 309/63/71 (and going up rapidly) now. I have 165+ Families but only 107 houses. Poor guys, I stuff them into those shacks like sardines. I shall be expanding North (upwards) first. The two pockets up there should get me to 700-800 adults easy. Then I'd still have the whole rest of the map (pic). The map seed, btw, is all 9's - Large/Valley, 999999999. Great for messing around in.

Problems with the backer page
LadyCrimson replied to Mechos's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
For which I'm thankful for and use every time, on those rare occasions when I must. -
I'm going to assume this means there's no need for this version anymore, then. The newer version of this thread is here.

Yeah, I think some do like having some foresters just plant, for various reasons. I haven't played with that much since I tend to be a minimalist re: the gatherers and such. Only over 300 citizens (230+ Adults) tonight, so no composite map. Expecting pop. to rise fairly fast/steady at this point but guess it's still going to take me a while. I'm really liking this map, hoping what I'm doing will be stable enough for 800, perhaps. Got room, but as always not sure how far I feel like planning expansion. I'm still liking my current method of scattering clumps of houses vs. concentrated population centers. Could bite me in the butt later, of course... Current main area: the reason for empty pastures is after the first boat or two, I haven't seen a livestock merchant in 20 years. Do have sheep, they're not in the pic. Traders are driving me nuts. Can't figure out how to split a pasture, either, to try to make them grow that way. Even at full capacity the Split button stays greyed out. Maybe it has to be a certain tile-size.

Walking Dead - well millions of Daryl fans should be pleased. I did like the episode tho ... and the way the 2nd half of the season is focusing on individual people as they struggle on their own. New story and character dynamics after having the same ones for so long. The show still tends to make me wish I could fast forward to the last episode cliffhanger arc, tho.
