What you did today
I hope not too but I understand the feeling. Altho, for me it's the entire internet in general. I think for me, maybe I don't like being serious anymore. I just want to be light hearted and goofy. Not that I haven't always been goofy. Sidenote: figured out how to disable the laptop touchpad. Much better.

$250-$300 laptops
The cheaper $250+ Asus Transformers only have 1GB RAM, which seems icky. Plus a memory card would hike the price up even further. So I said screw it and bought this HP Pavilion latop instead. i3, dvd, numpad. Touchscreen too, not that I care. Display is adequate but nothing special, not unexpected. Internet is fine with our wifi, and performance with multiple FF tabs open and video streaming seems fine too. I hate Win8 even via desktop but oh well what can you do. I also seem to keep hitting the wrong keys or something. But I like 15" vs. 10" and so far it seems great for couch-use (which is where I'm sitting now). We'll see how it goes after a few days.

Nextgen Kotor 2 Graphics
Wow, that's pretty cool. If it's released as a texture mod pack, would definitely make me fire up this game again, and I haven't played it in ages.

On whether the "magic" is there or not in CRPGs
"Magic." Very few games have made me care about the main plot, outside of the means to get to the end. It's not that I won't appreciate/don't want good stories. I just don't tend to pay attention often - it's background noise. Maybe because by the time I reach the next plot point/quest/info, I've been distracted by/done so many other things in the game I've literally forgotten what the main plot was in the first place (it's not like reading a book cover to cover). I can get attached to individual characters. If a game has this for me, it's a huge plus, since emotional connection to gaming is so rare for me...and yet, if it's not there, I won't miss it much per se - if the game still appeals to me in other ways. ...so the "magic" for me is largely about what, in another thread, was called "hookability." Which I find a lot of modern crpg's don't have. All the current trends that I've seen/experienced do not give me more immersion, it detracts from it. I'm too often brought to awareness that I'm watching a game, for example tapping my fingers waiting for something onscreen to finish so I can get back to playing. Whatever the ultimate reasons for hookability being there or not being there (obviously very subjective), most modern games seem to lack the ability to put me into tunnel vision mode, thus they are far less magical. I need my tunnel vision. Perhaps because I have a hard time focusing for long periods without it.

What's on the idiot box... Part 3
I'm mildly curious what they're doing with the Flash series, but I think I'll wait until it's on Netflix and I can watch 1st season all in one go. My patience level for adTV can only handle 2-3 shows a year these days. Gave up on The 100. Definitely improving still, but just couldn't take it anymore.

What you did today
I know that some people appreciate employees asking if "you need help", but for those of us who do not (if I need help I'll ask), I don't suppose a giant "No Thank You" sticker on my forehead would work to prevent them from asking me that same bloody question every 5 minutes? No? .... thought not. *grumpy old woman* ...at least I brought a chocolate mousse pie home. With whip creme. It's Friday, gotta live a little sometimes.

Movies you've seen recently
Just watched "Into the Storm." Haha. It's like a syfy movie with a bigger budget and slightly better scripting. The tornado effects weren't bad. Seeing the actor from the Hobbit films being not a dwarf was weird. And the drunk idiot guys were the best thing in the movie.

What's on the idiot box... Part 3
Don't know where to put this, really, so... Nerdgasm alert.

Constantine
So, has this gotten any better? I watched the pilot ... keep in mind I don't read the comics so I don't have those expectations ... and mostly I found it boring. Didn't hate it - just not very interesting/attention grabbing in any way. Lead actor portrayal was kinda bleh for me but I don't know if it's the actor or the direction/script.

What's on the idiot box... Part 3
Tried an episode of The Knick (Cinemax). For some reason we can access it, even tho we're not subscribed. Free Max week or something? Dunno. Looks like an interesting show. Good acting/script. I may binge watch it. Not much else to do in the rain.

What you did today
It changed over the course of 20 minutes while I was logged in. Then it was that way today, and just now it stopped. Weird, guess it's intermittent for me. Only happens when in wysiwyg mode (not bbcode) I think. I don't mind, it's just very bright on the eyes. I use FF/noscript etc but I've changed nothing with any of that. Anyhoo...today I got out of bed. Notice I didn't say "woke up" because it's been hours and I'm still not really awake. Rainy day, big window, aromatic candles, music, cat, couch...it's like meditation without actually meditating.

$250-$300 laptops
Well maybe I'll try that Atom thingie. I can always return it to the store if I hate it. And if it doesn't work, guess I'll look into pricier laptops. That just wouldn't be my first preference. Winter always makes me want a house-portable option, because this "office" room of mine gets really cold and while I could lug my whole desktop/monitor out into the living room and back again, that becomes rather cumbersome.

What you did today
In terms of colds and flus, mostly they show up to work and get everyone else sick, leading to a lot of absent workers in a never ending cycle of back and forth contamination. Apparently many companies here think that's bottom-line profitable. I don't think I've worked at a place that didn't have at least 5 days of sick time per year...although I'm not surprised that it occurs, especially these days. Also, why did my quick-reply box suddenly become bright white?

$250-$300 laptops
Also, that Asus thingie doesn't have a wired ethernet port? I might like having that option available. Tho seems like a USB adapter may work? Hm.

$250-$300 laptops
I was thinking about Chromebooks. That Asus might be ok, but it'd be nicer if it had a numpad. And yeah, the limited non-cloud storage isn't ideal, although I wouldn't be planning on using it for huge storage generally. I'm not sure I want card storage vs. internal. I tend to lose things if they aren't stapled to my forehead.

$250-$300 laptops
Thing is, I want to use Firefox and my programs. My understanding of a lot of the mini-books or tablets is I can't do that, you have to use "their"/other apps or something. And I definitely do not want to be forced to use cloud-anything to port files from desktop to the other device which seems to be where tablets are going?

$250-$300 laptops
Here's what I want/my needs: --Web browsing/forum posting, netflix/video streaming that doesn't feel real "laggy." This is most important, because, while I get it won't be as smooth/fast as my desktop, I don't want script heavy webpages to make me rage either. --Windows O/S --5 pounds or less (15.9 screen may be about as big as I'd care for?) I don't care about: --Playing games or running heavy-duty software. I won't even run/need stuff like Office. I might play ancient gog games now and then. Most in this el cheapo range seem to use the Intel Celeron which aren't awesome I know but would it do ok for this use, or too stuttery on modern websites? Think I should go $50-$100 more for the i3 even for my simple wants? Examples of the Celeron's: ASUS 15.6-Inch Dual-Core Intel 2.16 Ghz Dell Inspiron i3531-1200BK 15.6-Inch

Pictures of your games Part 5
Well, the bonus items were nice, at least. They were blue-level. A lot better than those yellow starter weapons in BL2. Also...turning off the bloom (tweaking the ini's) makes a big difference in some spots. I find it odd it seems to affect color so much tho. (Bloom on is top, bloom off is bottom)

The Funny Things Thread
I'm not sure it's worth a tv special, but it's...sort of amusing. (I don't like that they used a human voice for Grumpy, tho..). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7XGain4ZMU

The Foundation? HBO?
- whips n chains n wizzies
LadyCrimson replied to serenityangel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)...yeah, feels like it'd be tough to animate in way that looked realistic/nice.- The Foundation? HBO?
That's one of his works I've never read - not sure why, I guess I was just more into his other stuff at the time. But I'd be interested in a series to see what HBO does with it. It'd be interesting to see what I think of such, having not read them. - whips n chains n wizzies
