Second impressions thread! [Build 278 version]
InsaneCommander replied to Tartantyco's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
There are more hair options (ponytails, bangs...) and some of them are really nice. Not a very important thing but I appreciate it.- 313 replies

So, what do you think about these? I like the first 2. EDIT: But they don't have the same quality as some of the others.

They are really good. Where did you get them? I'd like to add them to my portraits folder.

Pretty disappointed, this launches in December?
InsaneCommander replied to khermann's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
@Luridis I'll wait for the second update too. They already had their hands full when the Beta was released. I think they will leave some of the problems we noticed to fix after the first update. -
Not to mention that Orlans have much more options for skin color.

When I summoned the skeletons, the game tried to create three new protraits for them beside the other characters and it froze. I forgot about this and erased the file. My new chanter doesn't have the skeletons, so I can't reproduce that bug right now.
-
Chanters are cool. I really like how we can create our own songs with different phrase combinations. I agree with everything you said, except reducing the number of skeletons. I think it's nice to summon three, since there is another summon for only 1 creature (the ghost? I don't remember very well. I didn't try that one). Instead of reducing to 1, imo it'd be better to make them weaker. Can't comment on the clog up because I only summoned them once and I had to leave the game because of a bug.

Character stuck and attack bug
InsaneCommander replied to Thorh's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Strange, I can't edit my previous post. The savegame is here: http://www.upload.ee/files/4226227/bac78401beff4bde853ccc983726729f_DracogenInn_7644544.savegame.html I also run into the other bug, the continuing attack. Thanks for your hints Ink Blot, I was almost giving up playing the Beta. -
Character stuck and attack bug
InsaneCommander replied to Thorh's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
I have this bug (BB Fighter stuck) after the fight with Nyfre. Has it been reported already? Edit: [Description of the issue] BB Fighter is stuck after the fighter with Nyfre (on my last try BB Rogue was stuck too) [DETAILS] 1) Enter Nyfre's room 2) Talk with Nyfre and select the dialogue option to attack 3) BB Fighter will not move after the combat ends I can't attach the savegame in this post. Is there another way to do it? -
Combat readability analysis - graphics
InsaneCommander replied to Justinian's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I recall Josh called out that screenshot specifically in one of his pressos about having the "Scooby-doo" effect where the 3D models didn't match the 2D background enough. I think they went too far in trying to blend everything, and have actually brought out detail better in the background than in the models themselves. Time to start tweaking in the opposite direction I think. I agree. -

Maybe it's just me, but I think there is a better character contrast in the image below. Could this "problem" be something specific of the Beta? http://news.softpedia.com/images/news2/Pillars-of-Eternity-Is-Just-the-Start-for-the-New-Obsidian-Universe-Says-Josh-Sawyer-424842-2.jpg?1391763369 -
Not all of them are ugly. Since some cultures think they are blessed and others that they are cursed, I hope the reactions are different depending on where you are. Death Godlikes should be treated badly almost everywhere, of course. Honestly, I could play the game at least three times choosing only the Godlikes (Death, Fire and Moon) and I'd be very satisfied. But I don't think I'll have time for that so I'll probably do it once and try an Orlan when I play again.
-
I do. So do I.
-
@Lasweetlife I see no problem with that. The Death Golikes look fine for me, even without hair, since that black mist is cool. But the female Moon and Fire have portraits with hair, so I'd like to see that.

The feeling of an IE game depends on each player's opinion. That can change with other buids, but maybe we could have a poll?

Combat XP Poll - Let's See What We Think Now
InsaneCommander replied to SergioCQH's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Do we know if the enemies respawn? Sorry if this has been said somewhere else, but I haven't seen it. -
New hairstyles for other characters and Godlike variants. That is awesome! Thank you for replying in this thread. I understand there are a lot of things to do and this is not a priority, but I appreciate that you are considering our suggestions and opinions.

@Giubba If a character without intellect and perception can solve all quests in a different way, it's fine for me. But I understand some people won't like it. As for the combat, let's see if they'll change it and how it will affect the attributes choices.
-
I'd love to see that, but I'll understand if they don't do it.

Dialogue Options Don't Really Do Anything
InsaneCommander replied to Bryy's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I think they leave these options so that we can read the NPC's answers again if we don't remember what they said. But I agree with you, it's strange and immersion breaking. It would be better if the greyed dialogue was hidden and we had to click somewhere to see it. -
There are multiple ways to progress. If you want a character that has every option available, then yes, you'll need to invest in every stat that influences conversation. If so, then play as a character that will benefit from those attributes, one that doesn't really need constitution or dextery. But is it really necessary? I'd rather leave some of those options for a second playthrough. For example, first I play as a intelligent and perceptive character and later as an intimidating bully with high might and resolve. There is absolutely no problem in wanting to have all options available , but I don't think Obsidian expect players to do that. Just look at the discussion on the thread below and the comments made by one of the developers (Eric Fenstermaker): http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/66862-dialogue-options-dont-really-do-anything/

Aumaua. They're really cartoony though and my least favorite because they stick out the most. This is bugging me, too. I was planning on playing a Vailian, who according to my understanding look like this: Gimme some black portraits, Obsidian. I want to be a Vailian swashbuckler-type character. Man I wish I could give my character hair like that. I was expecting some of those hats in character creation. I want to be a Vailian mosketeer.
